Anastasia and her grandmother sit, reminiscing. Marie reminds her granddaughter that she has the eyes and spirit of her father, Nicholas, but the beauty and dignity of her mother, Alexandra. Anastasia is fitted for a gown which she will wear to her royal coronation.
But just when Anya has found her family, Rasputin is ready to strike! He and Bartok wait out in the garden of the Winter Palace. Bartok, however, is having second thoughts. He doesn't want to kill Anastasia.
Marie calls Dimitri into her office. She gives him the reward, 10 million rubles. Dimitri, however, refuses. Marie asks him what he wants, and Dimitri replies, "Unfortunately, something you can't give." When Marie asks him why he changed his mind, he said, "It's more a change of heart." He then leaves to return to St. Petersburg. He meets Anastasia on the steps. Anastasia asks him if he got his reward. Dimitri simply replies that his business here is finished. A servant tells Dimitri that he must bow to Anastasia, who quickly says he doesn't. Dimitri does anyway, and wishes her luck before leaving. He is giving up his love for her so she can be the Grand Duchess. Anastasia stares wistfully after him.
Later, as Marie and Anastasia prepare to enter the ball, Anastasia fearfully peeks at the crowd through the curtains. Marie startles her by saying, "You know he isn't there." Anastasia jumps, and then says that she didn't expect him to be. She says that he's probably off spending his reward money. Marie then tells her that Dimitri refused the money. "Seeing you happy was enough of a reward." Marie then asks her if she is truly happy and has everything she wants. Anastasia hastily declars that she does; after all, she's with Marie again. But, Marie says, they will always have each other. She doesn't have to stay and be a princess though. She hugs Anastasia tightly, telling her to follow her heart. Then Marie leaves.
Pooka leaves Vlad's dressing room, where Vlad is getting ready for the coronation. Dimitri and Vlad embrace, Vlad wishing Dimitri luck. Dimitri goes to the train station. He takes a rose out of his pocket from the night dancing in Paris and smiles. Then Pooka runs out into the garden, barking hysterically. Anastasia follows him, only to become trapped in the garden. She screams for help, when Rasputin pops up, Bartok hiding behind the hedges. Rasputin's minions tear at Anastasia's sleeves, and drag her to the bridge. Anastasia recognizes him and curse Rasputin. Rasputin laughs and uses his magic to crumble the bridge. Bartok flees, claiming that he cannot take part in this. Anastasia hangs to the edge. "You won't get away with this!" she screams, but Rasputin declares that no one can stop him.
"Wanna' bet!" Rasputin spins around to see Dimitri standing there. Anastasia screams as Dimitri struggles with Rasputin's stone creatures. Finally Dimitri is struck unconscious. "Long live the Romanovs!" Rasputin screams, laughing maniacally. Pooka grabs Rasputin's amulet. Anastasia grabs it, as it rolls to her foot. "I couldn't have put it better myself!" she replies. Rasputin screams but Anastasia smiles coldly.
"This is for Dimitri!" She cries, stomping it. Light bursts through the air.
"This is for my family!" She stomps it again, as the beams encircle Rasputin.
"And this, this is for you! Dasvidanya, Rasputin!" Anastasia smashes her foot down on the amulet, crushing it.
Rasputin howls, but to no avail. He is destroyed by the very evil forces he created. His body whithers to dust and then blows away.
Anastasia rushes to Dimitri's side, but he's still out. Fearing he's dead, she begins to cry. Pooka frantically licks Dimitri's face. Dimitri groans and wakes up. Anastasia cries, "Dimitri!" flinging her arms around him. Dimitri moans because he's sore and Anastasia jumps back. Dimitri smirks and mutters, "I know, I know. All men are babies." She asks him why he refused the reward, and he said that it just seemed the right thing to do. The stand up, and embrace, but just as they are about to kiss, Pooka once again tugs at Dimitri's leg. Dimitri leans down and picks up Anastasia's fallen crown.
A servant gives Marie the crown along with a note from Anastasia. Anastasia says that she will see her in Paris soon. Sophie begins weeping, saying, "They've eloped! It's such a happy ending." No, the dowager empress replies, it's a beginning.
Dimitri and Anastasia dance joyfully aboard a boat, Pooka jumping at their heels. Suddenly, Dimitri pulls Anastasia close, and they passionatly kiss. When the kiss finally ends, Dimitri lifts Anya into his arms, swirling her around as she laughs. Meanwhile, Bartok finds a love of his own. The two lovers are together at last, Anastasia has found her family, and everything begins...
