Columbo, played by Peter Falk, was a lieutenant working in homicide. In Columbo,you always knew who the killer was right from the beginning. The real enjoyment of the program is watching him wear down the killer with "just one more question."
He frequently mentioned his wife, brother-in-law, and dog in his conversations with the murderer. His rumpled trenchcoat and his old wreck of a car were his trademarks. My favourite episode of Columbo was "Negative Reaction." The killer, played by Dick Van Dyke, was a photogragher who killed his wife and framed the murder on an ex-con. Columbo dogged him until the murderer wore down and tripped up.
