RIFTs Underland

Caverns, Culture, and Weather systems

World Storms

A world storm is a combination of a force 15 hurricane or cyclone combined with the random elements of a Ley Line Storm. These terrible wind and Ley lightning storms rush through the cavernous network with winds of up to six hundred kilometres an hour, and can wreak havoc and terrible destruction in a matter of minutes, even though the storms themselves last for two to six days.

Some cavern societies have powerful weather mages who can cast protective wards to stop the storms, others have huge underground shelters, or throw up massive magical barriers to protect their towns and cities from the ravages.

Cavern Statistics

Each cavern in the Underland is between six and fifteen kilometres high, with a length of between fifty and one hundred kilometres, and a width of between ten and fifty K's. Each cavern will have a number of huge pillars that stretch up from the ground to connect to the ceiling. These are between one and ten kilometres thick, and some caverns have trees, grasses, and animals living on and in these huge megalithic rock towers. To facilitate Role-Playing, use the following chart to randomly generate caverns for the Underland:

People

Underland houses somewhere between three and five thousand million sentients, and perhaps ten times that number in animals and other D-bee non-sentients. Of the sentient population, the breakdown into species is roughly as follows:

	Human 50%
	D-Bee Human	35%
	Dragon 5%
	Amazonian	3%
	True Atlantean	2%
	Other 5%

Of the human population, the majority are from Rifts Earth, and are descended from various races and people who had journeyed to the Underland in ages past.
