The Master

One of the most prominent and lethal foe of the Doctor is the Master.  A cunning enemy with no other care in the universe except for its conquest and the temptation of his own black hearts.  The relationship between the two Time Lords is unclear, all though it is known that they attended the Academy on Gallifry together and possibly that were once friends, so much so that the Doctor even said that he saved the Master's life once.  The Master has always pursued the Doctor, again and again being defeated, but each time the Doctor did not win unscathed.

The first time the Master appeared was during the Doctor's exile on earth, the era of the third Doctor, as played by Jon Pertwee.  First seen in, "The Terror of the Autons", from the very beginning the Master was recognized as a worthy foe of the Doctor, and also adored by fans.  Oddly enough after the constant game of cat and mouse, the Doctor never truly hated the Master, quite the contrary he respected him as an adversary of equal intelligence whose brilliant mind was wasted on evil.  Once the Doctor told one of his companions that he would be quite sad if anything happened to the Master.

Several times the Master has teamed up to defeat the Doctor with other foes, the Rani, the Cybermen and others, only using them however for as long as he needed them.  His trademark is his lethal Tissue Compression Eliminator, a weapon that reduces a victim to a tiny shrunken corpse.  He is also incredibly talented with hypnotism and has used it many times to achieve his goals.  The Master has battled with every incarnation of the Doctor, until the Master was finally destroyed on Earth after falling into the TARDIS' Eye of Harmony, during a final attempt to steal the Doctor's remaining regenerations and live on.  Will the Master ever return?  The universe is a large place, almost anything can happen....

The Rani

The Rani is a fellow Time Lord, a brilliant chemist who also attended the academy with the Doctor and the Master.  She is the same age as the Doctor, but much like the Doctor and the Master is a renegade, banished from Gallifry after breeding a race of dinosaurs which escaped.  She has no morals, simply a pure scientific mind who sees no standing in life or love.  The entire universe to her is simply a test tube.

She first encountered the Doctor when he arrived during Europe's Industrial Revolution (Time and the Rani), where she was draining cerebral fluid from the locals, thus depriving them of sleep and making them very violent.  The Master arrived their as well and recognized her superior talents with chemistry and made her an unwilling partner.  The Doctor defeated them both, when he sabotaged her TARDIS, sending her and the Master speeding faster and faster through space, with a Tyrannosaurus Rex trapped in her TARDIS.

She next showed up knocking the TARDIS out of orbit and thus forcing a regeneration into the seventh Doctor, Sylvestor McCoy.  He was able to subvert her plan for turning the planet into a Temporal Manipulator and thus allow her the ability to control time itself.  He then returned the most brilliant minds in the universe that she used, such as Einstein and even the Doctor himself.  She was trapped in her TARDIS by Tee-traps (a bat like creature) and was taken to their home planet.

Finally she was seen in "Dimensions in Time", where she returned, insane from drifting in space for years, with a pure hatred of the Doctor.  She apparently pulled the incarnations of the Doctor out of the past and began to destroy them in the Space/Time Vortex, when the remaining Doctors were able to turn the tables and pull her TARDIS in instead.

The DALEKS

No such enemy has been loved by fans more than the Daleks.  The Daleks are mutated from a race called the Kaleds on the planet Scaro, a mutation due to a tragic nuclear war on the planet Scaro.  Their chief scientist, Davros, enhanced the mutation and constructed a poly carbide armor shell to house the slimy blob that would soon be the entire race.  Davros' new army of Daleks destroyed their creator, or so they thought, and proceeded on their goal of universal domination.

The Doctor first met the Daleks when he his granddaughter Susan, as well as Barbara Wright and Ian Chesterton landed on Scaro and discovered a gleaming metal city.  Little did that first Doctor realize what a threat they would be come to the universe and to his own future regenerations.  Several attempts were made by the Daleks to conquer Earth, but all were thwarted by the Doctor.  The Daleks were involved in a very violent and bloody war between themselves and the Movellans, both races logical mechanical machines, who came to a stalemate.  The Movellans, however, somewhat winning in the end by perfecting a virus that destroyed the Daleks.  Davros was arrested during this time and imprisoned on a space station in chriogenic storage until his near dying Daleks returned to him for help in curing the virus.  Davros mistakenly thought himself unlike the Daleks and released the virus into the ship, killing off his Daleks, but his life-support systems were of Dalek technology so he nearly perished himself.

In a final showdown between the Daleks in the 1960's attempting to rejuvenate their dying planet and discover time travel using the Hand of Omega, a stellar manipulator, the Daleks were destroyed.  The mother ship and Scaro were destroyed by the Hand of Omega as was planned by the Doctor the whole time.  Davros by this time, his body nearly all but destroyed except for mind and head due to the virus, assumed the title of Supreme Dalek, thus finally ruling over his race.  The Daleks were destroyed, Davros, however managed to escape in an escape pod, somewhere out there planning his revenge on the Doctor...

The Cybermen

The chilling and wintry world of a Tenth Planet in Earth's Solar System...the Planet Mondas.  Propelled by massive thrusters that allowed to travel.  Out of the snow come the clunking and gleaming metal bodies of the Cybermen.  When the First Doctor encountered the Cybermen on Mondas, he had no idea that they too would pursue him through time.

The Cybermen also made many attempts to conquer Earth.  One such attempt was thwarted by the Doctor and the soon to be Brigadier Alastair Gordon Lethbridge-Stewart.  The Cybermen attempted to destroy a convention in the far future of Earth in which the leaders of the universe gathered to sign a pact of war against the Cyber race.  The warp cargo ship that was to be the missile was sent back in time, to 65 million years B.C., where it simply killed off the dinosaurs, as it was supposed to.  Adric however was killed.

The Cybermen were finally defeated once and for all by the Seventh Doctor using the Statue of Nemesis, a powerful doomsday device that had been created by the Time Lords.  The statue destoryed the Cyber fleet and all was finished for the Cybermen.
