Being a producer meant you were given a blank tape and then you had to fill it with stories. You had to literally produce the stuff.

So, you look for nice topics to do features on, set interviews, and go
out with the camera crew to shoot. Then, you go back to the office, write
the script, voice it, and edit the segment.
