At the end of the previous episode, Tom was forced to watch helplessly as new solicitor Sally Downie was abducted in front of his eyes. Now he is desperate to find her, not only because he persuaded her to take on local con man and newly-released prisoner Enzo Fiorelli as a client, but also because Sally is the first woman to become important to him since his wife's death.
The Heelers assume that the abductors must be the two professional hit men who arrived mysteriously in town after a light plane disappeared in the nearby National Park. Obviously they are after Enzo because various attacks have been made on his home and his daughter has disappeared. But Enzo is tight-lipped, and when the Heelers finally capture and bring in the two hit men, they deny all knowledge of either abduction.
An increasingly frantic Tom is convinced they are lying but is unable to break their story. Then Enzo's missing daughter walks into the station, shaken but unhurt. She explains how Sally bravely and cleverly diverted the attention of their captor, allowing the girl to escape. But where is Sally?
Much to Tom's frustration, the girl is vague about where she was held and by whom, she was blindfolded. All she can say for sure is that the two prime suspects, the hit men, were not involved — their voices are wrong.
The Heelers are forced to look again at Enzo's many other enemies — this man ripped off half the Italian market gardeners in the district before he was sent to prison. Could it be one of them? If so, which one?
And — of far greater importance to Tom — what might he do to Sally? Tom leads a desperate search to save her life.
