History Never Repeats Part 2

By Fiona and Michelle

In The Station.
Later that morning, Maggie is in the locker room and has just finished getting changed into her uniform when Dash walks in.
Maggie: So where, or with who, did you end up sleeping last night?
Short silence and Dash grins mishcheviously.
Dash: If you must know, at the Imperial.
Maggie: With?
Dash: (sighs) Adam There, you happy.
Maggie: Who would have guessed.
Dash: But nothing happened.
Maggie walks towards the door and stops before she leaves.
Maggie: Oh Dash! By the way about last night.
Dash: Its okay, plus (smiles) I didn't mind.
Maggie exits shaking her head smiling. PJ enters through the front door of the station smiling.
PJ: Morning all!
Adam: Ah! Here's the sore losers.
PJ: Watch it Cooper! There's always next time.
PJ walks past Maggie and whispers,
PJ: Good Morning my favourite Constable.
Maggie: Morning.
Dash emerges from the lockers and smiles at Adam.
Nick: Ah Deirdre! I see you must have had a good night last night.
Dash gives a Nick a look saying shut up.
The phone rings and everyone ignores it then Maggie rushes over to it.
Maggie: Mt Thomas Police Station. Senior Constable Doyle speaking.
Maggie takes down some details, and then hangs up, after promising someone will come over to check out the crime scene.
Maggie: Boss, you're not going to believe this, but that was Bryan Saxton over at the railyards. Someone's stolen about 50 railway sleepers.
Tom: What on earth would anybody want with those.
Nick: Gardens maybe. They're the "in" thing instead of bricks. Or firewood. It is getting pretty cold.
Tom: Alright. It doesn't sound too serious. Cooper, you and McKinley check it out.
Tom goes back into his office, and Adam reaches for the 4WD keys off the hook. As he and Dash head out the door, Nick is heard to say "Straight there and back. No detours. I'm timing you." Dash pulls a face at him and heads off after Adam.
PJ: Have I missed something?
Nick: Dash slept with Adam last night.
Maggie: With the emphasis on slept. She said nothing happened.
Nick: Like we're meant to believe that? What's wrong with her bed?
Maggie: Bit noisy. I couldn't sleep, so I decided to do some vacuuming.
Nick: There's still her Mum's.
Maggie: Yeah, but the light on her bicycle's broken. Why do I even need to explain to you?
PJ: Yeah Nick. Try doing something unusual today. Do your work.
Meanwhile at the railway yards. Bryan shows Adam and Dash several piles of sleepers.
Bryan: Now, we usually have them in little piles every so often around the yard.
Dash: How many's little?
Bryan: Usually 15 odd. Kids hang out around here, gang turf you know. Sit around on them like park benches. But as you can see (he indicates some marks on the ground where sleepers have been moved from), several piles are missing. And you know what else?
Adam: What's that Mr Saxton?
Bryan: The cheeky sods who took 'em even stockpiled some more near the back gate. Ready to come back for easy removal. Now, what are you lot going to do about it?
Adam: Well, we'll make a report back to Senior Sergeant Croydon, and we'll see what he says.
Bryan: Talk, talk. I reckon you should do a stake out, like you see on TV.

Back at the station, Adam and Dash fill the others in.
PJ: Stockpiling eh? Maybe they are coming back for another load.
Tom: Could be worth keeping an eye on tonight. I'll get on to Falcon-Pryce and organise some overtime.
Dash: I'll do it. I could do with the extra cash. Adam's got all mine.
Maggie: That would be because you have to pay back all his money which you lost. Don't complain. At least he's not charging interest like a bank would.
Nick: Have you still not paid that all back yet?
Dash: Almost. Just $500 left to go.
Adam: Plus the $75 you owe me from the auction from last year, and the $20 from that other bet you lost a couple of weeks ago.
Dash: Damn. I was hoping you'd forgotten that.
Tom: Speaking of forgotten. Where are the lunches McKinley?
Dash: It's only 11.30
Tom: Exactly. You should have left to go and get them.
Dash heads out muttering under her breath.
Tom: Right, now Cooper. You've got tomorrow off. You do the OP tonight too.
Nick: Um, Boss...
Tom: No arguements. It's settled. Now, I'm going back to my office, and I don't want to hear a word from any of you until it's to say Dash is back with the lunches.
He heads into his office, but before shutting the door says "And I want to be able to look out and see you lot working. Cooper, cells. Doyle, restock the stationary. Nick, have you finished that report?
Nick: Very nearly, very nearly.
Tom: Well quit gossiping and get it finished then.
Tom shuts his door.
Nick: Very nearly started.

That's the end of Part 2. Part 3 is yet to come.
