Moving House

Screened Wednesday March 10th

This week’s episode began with Mr Barker and his daughter coming into the station to report that their house had been burgled. Maggie and PJ go out the site of the house and realise that the whole house has been taken.
Mr Barker claims that his Aunty Val left him the house in her will.
Back at the station, Dash tries to talk to Maggie about moving back in with her. Maggie tries to avoid her and tries to make herself as busy as possible. Dash says that since she’s been staying with her Mum, her social life and her sex life has been virtually no existent. Dash wants to move back in that night but Maggie says that’s not a good idea. There’s a phone call. Maggie quickly answers it but then passes it on to Dash as PJ signals for Maggie to come into his office.
While in PJ’s office, PJ tells Maggie that he doesn’t want her to move back in. But Maggie says that there’s no way that she can refuse Dash’s moving back in because she knows that she’s having trouble paying the rent and two people can live cheaper than one. PJ suggests that they use his house again but Maggie says that that’s impossible because if Mrs Low catches her sneaking out one more time she won’t believe anymore of her stories.
PJ and Maggie come out of the office and go out to see “a man about a house”. He doesn’t provide them with much new information so PJ and Maggie decide to go back to the station. PJ suggests that they take the scenic route back to the station to which Maggie replies, “why not?”.
On the way back, they stop and park in a secluded spot. They start talking about the house. Maggie says that she would love a house just like it there without any neighbours or flatmates - maybe a dog, to which PJ makes a dog kind of noise. Maggie then says, “ok, maybe the occasional visitor”. She leans closer to PJ and asks what he would like to which he say “anywhere I can be alone with you Ms. Doyle”. They start kissing until Tom’s voice comes over the radio asking where they are. The orange juice that they’ve been drinking gets spilled all over PJ as Maggie breaks from the kiss as fast as she can. They go back to the station.
Mr Barker comes into the station to see what’s been happening about his house. PJ says that it still isn’t found. Tom suggests that they stay at the Imperial. Barker says that he doesn’t want any charity and Tom says that Chris won’t give him any.
Later that night at the pub, the Heelers see Mr Barker working for Chris to pay for his room. Tom is having dinner with Sally in another room. Back in the main part of the pub, PJ says that he’s going to have an early night and leaves. Maggie says that she has some things to do and will stay until she finishes the orange juice that she’s drinking. Meanwhile, Tom has gotten out the photos of Anna, Susan and Sam for Sally to look at. A man comes into the dining room where Tom and Sally are, approaches Sally and kisses her. Tom is surprised to learn that he is her husband.
At Maggie’s house, she is putting the kettle on when there’s a knock at the door. She looks at her watch before going to answer it. It is PJ with a bottle of wine. He comes in and they go into the kitchen. Maggie tries to tell PJ that Dash is in the house but PJ lifts Maggie up onto the kitchen bench and starts kissing her. She succumbs to his passion but realises that they should stop. Then Dash’s voice comes through the house saying that she needs another pillowcase. PJ and Maggie break from their kiss and Maggie comes out of the kitchen to talk to Dash. PJ follows her out after a few seconds and greets Dash. Dash is obviously surprised to see PJ and Maggie says that he’s coming over to repay a bet. Dah lets it go and PJ leaves.
The next day at the station, Dash tells Maggie that she won’t be home that night because she’s going to Melbourne to see a band. Both Maggie and PJ perk up and tell her not to hurry back.
There’s a call and it seems like the house has been found. PJ and Maggie go out to see if it is the same one. It is and they talk to the man about it who just happens to be the same guy that they talked to yesterday. At the station, he says that he bought it from an old lady for $2000.
There is another call, this time about a dispute over Mr Barker’s land. An older lady, Pamela Saunders, and Bob are having a fight about the land. He says that his aunt willed it to him and Pamela says that she bought it ligitimately. At the station, they find out that Bob’s real name is Barnett Oswald Braker - BOB. Previously he has been in Long Bay Gaol for counterfeiting. The will of his aunt’s cannot be found but they do find out that the lawyer that did it was in Sally’s old office so they go to Sally to talk about it.
At Sally’s office, she opens the safe as she knows the title deed that they are talking about however when she opens the safe, she cannot find it. PJ and Maggie take her down to the station. Tom doesn’t know what their doing and tell them that Sally is not involved. PJ says that he has to explore all angles and takes her into the interview room.
In the interview room, Sally says that Ray (her husband) helped her move office and would have seen the title deed. Tom gets Ray in and asks to search his hotel room. After a little resistance, he finally consents. It is clear that Tom doesn’t trust Ray.
Meanwhile, PJ and Maggie go to see Mr Foster who was the lawyer that sold the land to Mrs Saunders. He denies doing anything wrong. He claims that he only talked to the real estate agent through the phone and therefore can’t identify the woman.
The Heelers get Mrs Saunders in to do a computer face. The face that is created looks very much like Sally, only younger.
Tom makes private enquiries about Ray and then visits him at the Imperial. Tom thinks he is setting Sally up and tells him to stay away from her. He says that he slept with her last week. Tom is devastated and leaves.
When Tom returns, Maggie says to PJ that he’ll have to tell him. PJ goes into Tom’s office and shows him the bank statement. They get Sally back in.
In the interview room, they ask Sally about the $10 000 that has been deposited in her account recently. She says that it must have been put there but when she is questioned about who did it, she cannot say. Sally tells them that Ray has the account details but he doesn’t have that kind of money. She is shown the deposit slip with her signature on it. She says that it isn’t her signature.
At Maggie’s that night, PJ asks about the necklace that he gave Maggie for Christmas. She says that it’s the best Christmas present someone has ever given her. PJ says that he like this, with Dash in her place (in Melbourne for the whole night).
Tom drops into Sally’s house. She tells him that she has 2 kids as well. Also, that she thinks that Ray is setting her up. Sally says that she has discovered that 3 more title deeds have gone missing.
Back at Maggie’s house, Maggie and PJ look very “confortable” on Maggie’s lounge. Maggie suggests that they go into the bedroom but PJ says to forget about the bedroom. Maggie is lying on top of PJ with his shirt unbuttoned. Just as they are getting somewhere, Dash’s voice intrudes on them again. She has come back early. Maggie tells PJ to hide. He rolls over the back of the couch and lays there as Maggie throws over the evidence that she’s had people over. When Dash comes in, Maggie is still lying on the couch but this time by herself. She tells Dash that she must have fallen asleep. Dash says that the gig was cancelled because the leader of the band was busted for drugs or something. She offers Maggie a coffee which she acccepts and leaves for the kitchen. PJ quickly gets up and leaves after coming back for about 2 more kisses. Finally Maggie pushed him out the door.
The next day, PJ and Maggie talk to a lady about the house she’s living next door to. It is one of the houses with a missing title deed. They think that the same scam is operating. The lady positively identifies the lady from the computer image. Tom poses as a pensioner to get the old lady to show him the house. They arrest her and take her in for questioning. She is wearing a wig that makes her look like Sally.
It turns out that the old lady posing as Judith Benett is actually called Michelle Carmody. She denies knowing Ray or Sally. Tom gets Sally in to talk to Michelle about Ray. She confesses the whole deal and Tom and PJ go down to the Imperial to find Ray.
Ray is just sneaking out of the Imperial when Tom and PJ come in and corner him. They take him down to the station.
Back at the station, Sally stands up to Ray who claims that he was only trying to set up a future for them. She denies him and tells him that the divorce papers will be in the mail.
Later, Sally comes to see Tom at the station. She invites him to dinner but he refuses because he thinks that she can’t affors it. She says that she will cook. Tom wants a lamb roast. Sally consents and Tom says that she’s won him. Sally says “we’ll see” and leaves, leaving Tom to smile once more and the screen to fade out for another week.
