Ben Stewart returns to a permanent posting in Mt Thomas and quickly tests the other Heelers' loyalties when he becomes the focus of an investigation into the death of a local woman.
The Heelers have a new member at the station as part of their upgrade and are surprised to discover that they are being joined by none other than former visiting detective Ben Stewart, who has been demoted to Senior Constable. Maggie couldn't be happier to see him return to Mt Thomas, but PJ can't help wondering if this man is not only an extra hand around the station but competition as well.
Ben's arrival coincides with nothing more serious than a spate of fridge burglaries, and he's happy to have been transferred to the country and what he perceives as the 'quiet life'. The strange thing about the burgs is that the thieves only steal healthy food and leave normally stolen items like alcohol and junk food behind. This information coupled with the discovery that the local primary school is teaching the students about the food pyramid leads Dash to believe that the investigation should be focused on children.
The Heelers also find themselves embroiled in what looks like a missing person case, only to discover that the woman who has disappeared was on Witness Protection. Has her past come back to haunt her? Or does the fact that Ben knew her previous identity have something to do with what has happened?
Ben is determined to prove that the woman's husband is behind her disappearance, but PJ has difficulty in supporting his beliefs. Considering a known criminal from the woman's past has been seen in the area and the fact that Ben had little trouble recognising her makes PJ wonder if the explanation isn't a little more complicated. Once again Ben finds himself at the centre of an investigation, fighting not only to bring an offender to justice but to clear his own name.
