A long Episode Summary should be up soon.
Ben fights for the life of a troubled teenager while Adam is tempted by a bribe.
Ben and Dash are pursuing a car going at breakneck speed down a country highway, but when they reach speeds over 135 km an hour they are instructed to terminate. As much as Ben would like to bring the driver in he slows down, then suddenly the car they were chasing is coming straight towards them. A split second before impact the car swerves as Ben yanks the wheel.
The police car skids into the gravel leaving Ben and Dash safe, but badly shaken. They leap out of the car to check on the driver of the other vehicle, not knowing whether to save him or throttle him. The driver is James Murray, the construction site manager they had met in another investigation.
Meanwhile, the Heelers have been called to another robbery. But this case is a little different — the shop has also had an alarm fitted by Roland Halliday, but on this occasion it didn't go off. As Tom becomes increasingly frustrated with Roland's practices, Adam is trying to is fend off Roland's offer to join his business; he even gives him a cheque for $3000 as an advance. Adam doesn't want to take it, but Roland walks away, leaving it burning a hole in Adam's pocket.
While James has no major injuries, Dash and Ben are told that he is comatose — not responding to any stimuli. This, coupled with the information from the crash site that James intentionally crashed into a tree, points to the possibility that he was attempting to commit suicide.
Ben can't help but feel compassion for James, despite the fact that he nearly killed him in the attempt. Clearly his father has never given him my love or support and this is what Ben believes he needs now. Ben talks James out of his coma, and helps him deal with his situation after he is charged and granted bail. He organises for James to stay in the Imperial and even offers to pay his board until he is able to get some money together. However, when James goes missing from the pub, along with Chris's new computer, Ben fears that his trust has been misplaced.
When the Heelers are called to a report of gunshots fired, they discover a terrifying situation involving James and his estranged father. Ben realises that he may have been right about the boy after all, but if he can't help him now, James may lose his life.
Meanwhile, Adam is learning more about Roland Halliday and his business. It seems that Tom's suspicions may have been correct: Roland seems decidedly corrupt. But Adam begins to wonder whether letting the other Heelers in on the discovery will be in his best interests. Should he blow the whistle and risk being punished, or take the money and run?
