Showery Shower

from SOW 3/3/98

The weather outside was frightful. "It was pouring rain, an ugly day," Sarah Brown says. But the mood inside was delightful at Sarah and Vanessa Marcil's baby shower for co-star Nancy Lee Grahn. "We planned it together," Marcil explains. "Then I found out that my manager had booked me on something that day. So I couldn't make it, but I sent the cake." Brown, who'd never been to a shower before, took over the hostess duties. "Most of our female cast was there - Jackie Zeman and her kids, Senait Ashenafi, Amber Tamblyn and her mom. Bonnie, and Kristina Wagner stopped by with a present," Brown says. "We had so much fun. We did T-shirt painting. I set up a table in my living room with puffy paints and stencils. Everybody made T-shirts, actually jumpers, for the baby." Sarah says the star painter was Amber's mom. "She walked over to the table and was real cool - 'Gosh! I've never worked with these kinds of paints before.' She acted like a total novice. I left the room, and by the time I got back she had a scale unicorn on the jumper. It was a mural with purple sparklies and clouds. It turns out that she is an artist." As for the rest of the shower activities, all of the other games Brown had planned never came to pass. "It turned into such a gabby party. Everybody was talking the whole time. Before we knew it, it was 6. Nancy finally opened her presents; then the guests started to leave. I had to walk each one of them to their car with my big umbrella because it was raining so hard." 1
