Hidden in the Knight Part 7

By: D Anne Paris

Michael slowly drove up to the edge of the cliff. In front of them in the distance was Area 51, Groom Dry Lake Facility, site of extraterrestrials and other top secret things. There was nothing much that could be seen even with KITT's magnification.

"Quite a dreary place." Michael commented.

"Dreary isn't quite the word." KITT told him.

"What did you find out about Amtron?" Michael asked KITT as he got out and looked to see what was out there.

"It took a lot of digging but the only thing that I have come up with is that the Amtron may be some sort of an army plane."

"Army plane?" Michael asked curious. "What kind?"

"I don't know." KITT told him, "Those files are so top secret that I couldn't find out."

Michael sighed, "What about the security here? Would Garth be able to get through?"

"Only if he had a massive army. And even then I don't think he'd be able to get in."

"All right, get me April. I want her to alert the authorities just in case."

"Right away, Michael."

Michael looked out at the desert again towards the facility in the distance. Was Garth really insane enough to try and get into Area 51?

"Put it over here." Garth commanded the men as they carried a new computer into one of the rooms in the apartment. Elizabeth would be home with Candy any minute and Garth wanted everything to be set perfectly.

"Set it on that desk over there."

The men set the computer down and one of them began to connect it together. In a matter of moments they were finished. Garth smiled and gave them a very large check, which they happily took and left. Garth looked at the machine in the room. This would help him get what he wanted and it would be as easy as ever. A door opened downstairs and Garth heard Elizabeth and Candy talking. He slowly turned and headed to the stairs. Candy was standing downstairs with an expression of relief at the fact of being home once again.

"Candace," Garth called out to her.

She looked up and smiled, "Hi Daddy."

"Come, I have a surprise for you."

Obediently, Candy ran up the stairs to him and followed him into one of the rooms. There in the middle on a desk was a brand new computer.

"Oh!" Candy said with excitement as she ran over to it and began to look it over. "Is it mine?" she asked Garth.

"It will be. You just have to do one thing for me."

Candy turned around and looked at Garth, "What?"

Slowly, Garth walked over to a phone and picked it up, "I want you to call Michael and KITT. Tell them that you're going to some sort of test tomorrow at 9 in the morning in the Valley of Fire."

Candy didn't like the idea all that well. She knew that hearing Michael's voice would make her uncomfortable and she'd probably tell him the truth.

Seeing her hesitate Garth kneeled by her side, "Dearest, I have faith in you that you can do this. If Michael tries to ask you anything else just tell him that you don't know. It's not that hard. Please, darling."

Candy sighed, knowing that if she didn't do this Garth would be sad and she didn't want that. Going over to the phone she picked it up and started to dial KITT's direct number.

"You're saying that the government doesn't care about Garth and what he's planning?" Michael asked Devon as they walked into the mini kitchen in the semi. He and KITT just drove in the semi for modifications to KITT's systems. Now Michael and Devon were conversing about the situation that was in hand.

"It's not that they don’t care Michael. They just stated that their current amount of security will be able to handle anything that Garth plans." He said as he poured himself some tea.

"What if they can't?"

"I tried my best, Michael. I can't force them into upgrading their security." He said as he poured some sugar in his tea. "But they did say that after they apprehend Garth they will give us permission to interrogate him in order to find out about Candace's whereabouts."

"And what if they don't catch him?"

Devon took a sip of his tea, "Then I guess that it'll be up to you and KITT to catch him."

"Great." Michael said in exasperation.

"Michael!" KITT called out urgently.

Michael and Devon walked out and headed towards KITT.

"What is it buddy?" Michael asked as he opened the driver's side door.

"I'm getting a call from an outside source and it's not from the Foundation."

"Patch it through,"

"KITT?" Candy's voice rang out on his speakers. "It's Candace!" KITT informed them.

"Candy!" Michael practically yelled as he got into the driver's seat. " Are you all right? Where are you?"

Candy paused and looked at Garth who was making sure that she didn't say anything that she shouldn't. "I'm okay. I don't know where I am. But… "

Garth wrote took a piece of paper and wrote, 'Valley of Fire' 'tomorrow' '9am'. Then he handed it to her.

"Candy? Are you okay? Is there someone there with you?" Michael urgently asked her.

"I'm okay," she repeated, "I know that I'm going to the Valley of Fire tomorrow at 9 in the morning."

"Why are you going there?" Michael calmly asked her.

Candy could hear the concern in his voice and it seemed so genuine, so true. She missed Michael and KITT so much, if she could only just see them again.

"Candy, sweetheart. What's going on? Can you at least give me a description of where you are?" Michael asked her as she continued to clutch the phone.

Candy listened to Michael and then looked at Garth again. She was so confused, "Michael…"

Seeing her confusion Garth took the phone from her and hung it up saying, "You did well, my dear. Enjoy your computer." With that he disconnected the phone and took it with him, leaving Candy alone with her new computer.

Candy sat down in a chair and looked at the machine. What was happening with her? She just set up a trap for Michael and KITT! But Michael is a bad evil man that deserves to be punished, her father's voice reminded her again.

Candy shook her head as images of KITT and Michael appeared before her. Michael helping a woman find her daughter. KITT protecting Michael from flying bullets. Michael helping a small business from being taken over by a tycoon. KITT helping Michael save a car from going over a cliff.

How could Michael be evil after all those things? Candy looked back to where the phone was just a minute ago. If she could just call Michael again and talk to him. Ask him…but how? Slowly, her gaze returned to the computer on the desk. It could work. It had to work. Getting up she went over to the computer and started connecting some of the wires and cables.

Garth slammed the shot glass down on the table with a huge bang. Candace was slipping through his fingers and he had to think of a way to stop it before he completely lost her. Before, he wouldn't have cared if she didn't obey him or didn't believe him but now things were different. With Candace he would have the ultimate power and no one would tell him what he could or couldn't do. He had to have that power! It was rightfully his to do so.

Elizabeth Knight casually walked into the living room and sat across from Garth. "What's wrong, Garth?"

Garth didn't look at her, instead his gaze was aimed towards the room Candace was in, "She's slowly starting to disbelieve everything I've said about Michael Knight."

"Ah." Elizabeth said as she casually sat on the couch, "Then I guess we'll just have to eliminate him so she won't discover the truth- ever."

Garth looked at her and grinned, "I love the way you think, mother. Tomorrow will be the day Michael Knight ceases to exist. Without him, Candace will be a lost sheep looking for a shepard and I'll be there with open arms to help guide her." He then started to laugh and his laughter echoed through the suite and the surrounding world.

"Candy? Candy!?" Michael yelled as he soon realized that the connection was severed.

"It sounds like a trap, Michael." KITT told him. "Candy didn't seem to be her normal self."

"What's he done to her!?" Michael fumed as he got out of KITT and slammed the door.

"Michael, calm yourself. Your aggravation won't help Candace." Devon told him as he stood behind April who was at a computer trying to trace the call. "Did you get it?" Devon asked her.

April shook her head, "No. The call was too short."

"I think I know where to find her." Michael said as he got into KITT. The ramp slowly went down and Michael hit reverse and sped out of the semi.

Candy frowned as she discovered that the computer's modem was missing. In fact, there was suppose to be a modem- an external one, meaning that someone took it. That someone was probably Garth Knight. Just then she heard Garth's laughter, and it made her hairs stand on end. What was he so happy about? Candy felt even more confused then before. Would Garth purposely take the modem? He must've thought that I'd try to call Michael again. Candy mused as she sat in front of the computer screen. Is he really trying to protect me from Michael or is he trying to keep me away from Michael? Glancing at the computer screen she saw the message intended for Michael and KITT and created a password for it. She didn't know who to trust anymore, only herself. A minute later Garth entered her room.

"Come, we're leaving." He commanded her.

"Why? We just got here and I want to play with the computer." She told him plainly as she crossed her arms in front of her.

Garth slowly exhaled, "You will be able to play with the computer later. Right now, it is important that we leave immediately."

Candy grew irritated at his arrogance towards her, "I want to play with the computer now!" she whined as she stood up from her chair.

Garth slowly walked up to her and grabbed her arm tightly, "You will come right now, Candace, end of discussion."

Candy tried to wring free of the grasp but Garth held her tight and practically flung her out of the room. "Move!" he yelled at her.

Seeing the fury and rage in his eyes, she did what she was told as she rubbed her sore arm. Slowly, she began to realize who was the evil one. Unfortunately, for her she was closer to hell then she originally thought.

Michael sped down the road as quickly as he could manage without hitting any other cars. Turning left he swerved to avoid hitting a kid on a bike. Speeding past him Michael heard the kid spew out profanities at his driving.

"Where did that young man learn such words?" KITT casually commented.

.Michael didn't care, he needed to get to Candy before it was too late. He turned right onto another busy street and soon he turned into the hotel's driveup. Getting out of KITT he went through the front door and headed straight to the elevator, all the while keeping a look out for Garth or Candace. The elevator finally arrived and Michael practically jumped into it. Pressing 4 he tried to calm his racing heart and his nerves. As the elevator slowed down Michael was geared up for action. When the doors opened he ran out, turned left, and headed straight for suite 412. As he reached the door he already had his lockpick in hand. Slowly, he picked the lock and the door opened. Cautiously, Michael pushed the door and walked into the suite. It looked the same as last time but Michael felt that something was wrong. His gut told him it was way too quiet and a bit deserted which Michael didn't like. Slowly, he walked up the stairs to the bedrooms upstairs. Taking a gamble he decided to try the one on his right. No one was in the room and nothing seemed out of place or unusual. Opening the closet he found women's clothes hanging as well as some shoes. He pushed some of the clothes away to see if anything was hidden behind them. Finding nothing, Michael decided to try the next room. Upon entering the room the desk automatically caught his eye. On it was a brand new computer and monitor. Michael took a seat and sat down in front of it. Running his hand along the back of the monitor he found it was warm, meaning someone just recently used it. Turning it on, Michael hoped that there was something on it that could help him find Candace.

"KITT, I found a computer and I need you to find anything out of the ordinary." Michael said through his comwatch.

"Right away, Michael." KITT told him as he began his search. Almost instantaneously he found the encrypted file. "I've got something, Michael. It's a file and it's pretty well encrypted."

"Can you open it?"

"It'll take a while, but I'll get it done,"

"Good, get on it." Michael said as he looked at the computer screen. About a minute later the screen showed the file. "Good work, buddy."

The file contained a letter or rather a message addressed to Michael and KITT. Michael read it outloud.

"Michael and KITT,- Valley of Fire is trap. Goliath has shell. Don't know where I am or where I will be. Need to talk. I'll try to call. I'm sorry. I miss you. --- Candy"

Michael looked at the message again and tried to figure out what she was trying to tell him. He understood the majority of the message but what he didn't understand was 'Goliath has shell'. Thinking it over, Michael finally understood it's meaning. Garth probably built another car similar to KITT and put the molecular bonded shell on it.

"KITT, would a car with your molecular bonded shell be able to break into Area 51?"

"It's highly possible, Michael."

"Looks like we just discovered how Garth is planning on getting the Armtron."
