"The cake"

by: D anne Paris

"Damn it! Christina Summers yelled as she slammed the fridge door.

"What is it, Chrissy?" Her friend Jubilation Lee asked, as she took

out some plates from the kitchen cabinet.

"There is nothing to eat! The fridge is bare!" Chrissy answered as

she began to look through the cabinets.

"That's impossible! There was some cold cuts and bread before we

went jogging." Jubilee told her as she opened the fridge.

"Logan probably ate it all." Chrissy muttered as she continued her

search.

Jubliee stared inside the fridge. Sure enough, Chrissy was right-

there was nothing in the fridge except a head of lettice, some Spam, mustard,

and a 12" frosted cake. Jubliee took out the Spam. "How about some of this?"

Chrissy made a face,"Yuck! No thanks!" She looked through the other

cabinets, "I'm surprised that no one left a note!"

"Yeah well, that's my mom for you. She sometimes tells me where

she goes but usually just takes off." Chrissy told her.

"Yeah, that's just like Jean. When she decides to shop then no is

able to stop her."

"Right now she's probably in some mall with Aunt Ororo and Aunt Rogue

eating some fresh cinnamon rolls with lots of sweet icing..." Chrissy stopped

herself and looked in the fridge again.

Jubliee looked over her shoulder and saw that she was staring at the

iced cake.

Chrissy smiled, "I think we just found our lunch."

"Do you think we should? Maybe your mom's saving it for tonight

when you go to your grandpa's birthday party."

"Tough luck! I'm a hungry animal and since my mother didn't leave

us anything else we'll have to eat this." she grinned at Jubilee, "After

all we're growing girls- we can't starve ourselves!" she grabbed the cake out

and put it on the table.

"I love your thinking, but if we get in trouble I'm saying it's all

your idea." Jubliee told her, as she ran to find some plates.

Chrissy took out a knife and began to cut the cake, "Don't worry,

we won't get in trouble. Trust me."

Jubliee shook her head, "That's what I'm afraid of."

Chrissy stopped and gave Jubilee an evil grin, "Oh, thanks a lot."

Jubliee smiled, "How about you finish cutting the cake. I'm starving!'

"Oh, so now you're a good friend because I'm the one with the food

right?"

"Yeah, now cut the cake and let's eat." Jubliee said impatiently.

"Fine," Chrissy said smiling as she cut big peices of the cake and

placed a peice on each plate.

Jubliee dug into the cake,"This is great! But doesn't it smell a

little funny?"

Chrissy shook her head, "It's probably artifical flavoring or something."

"Probably."

After they finished their 1st slice they had 2nds and then 3rds.

Pretty soon their was nothing left of the cake but crumbs.

Chrissy turned to Jubliee and tried to look at her but her vision

was blurry, "I think I need glasses," she slurred, "cuz you're fuzzy."

Jubilee laughed so hard she fell off her chair and landed on the

floor with a thud. "That's so funny!" she choked out, "I'm fuzzy wuzzy!" she

laughed again and shot off some fireworks. She looked at the effect she

produced, "Look at the pretty colors I'm making!"

Chrissy looked at it and shrugged, almost falling off her chair, "So

what. I can make all the s'uff in her fly lik' it's in a tomato!"

"Tomato! Ha! Nothin' flies in a tomato!" Jubliee shreaked as she laid

on the kitchen floor.

"Does too! I saw ones Storm made!" she slurred as she stood up from

her chair. She wavered a little and had to hold on to the countertop for

support. "Whoa, why's the room spinning?"

"Because you made a tomato!"

"Oh. Well, I don't like it. I feel sick from it!"

Jubliee laughed hysterically and Chrissy joined in. They both were

laughing so loud that they didn't hear Chrissy mother come in along

with Storm and Rogue.

"What in tarnation is so funny?" Rogue asked the girls.

Chrissy and Jubliee stopped and looked at them.

Chrissy was the first to speak, "Hi Mommy!" She told Jean as she

started to wobble toward her. "Did you get any food cuz me and Jubilee..."

her sentence was cut off as she tripped and tumbled down. Jean broke her

fall by telekenetically grabbing her and pulling her up.

"Oh, that's so funny!" Jubliee shreaked again.

Rogue walked up to Jubilee and and looked at her.

"Gal, have you been drinking something ya an't suppos' to?"

Jubliee answered by laughing again and Rogue looked at Jean, "What's

gotten in ta them?"

Jean looked at Chrissy, who was murmuring incoherent words, and shook

her hard, "Chrissy, what happened? Did you drink something?" When Chrissy

laughed in her face Jean felt her blood boil.

"Jean," Storm said soothingly, "was there something that you put in

that cake that could've caused this?"

Jean looked at Storm and saw she and Rogue were looking at an empty

plate full of crumbs. "Oh, no!" she yelled, "I put rum in that cake! It was

suppose to be for my father's birthday party which is later tonight!" she

turned back to Chrissy and asked, "Chrissy, how much of that cake did you

eat?"

Chrissy looked at her mother with a dazed look, "The cake was yummy,

Mommy. I want mo'."

"Oh, God." Jean moaned, "Let's get you both to bed."

Rogue carefully lifted Jubilee, who started to scream with joy.

"Let's fly to Rome! I wanna see the Eiffle tower!"

"The only thing you're seein', sugah is Mr. Sandman." Rogue answered.

"Whoopee! I hope he's hot!" Jubilee laughed.

"Thank God, Scott isn't here to see this!" Jean told Storm as they

took a tipsy Chrissy up the stairs.

"Or the Professor," Rogue added.

"Oohh! Maybe the Prof'sor will fly us to see the Leaning Pizza!"

Chrissy said laughing.

"Geez Jean. How much of that stuff did ya put into that cake?" Rogue

asked.

"A bottle."

"Oh, Lordy! No wonder dem gals are so tipsy!" Rogue sighed as they

walked down the hallway.

"Well, we will all learn a lesson from this." Storm commented.

"Oh, what's that?" Jean asked curiously.

"We learned not to leave anything edible that has alcohole in it.

And..."

"And?" Rogue asked.

Storm smiled, "The girls learn not to eat sweets before dinner."

They all laughed at that and Chrissy yelled out, "I think I'm

gonna be sick!!"
