How do you understand dying?

die(1) v. died, dying 1. to cease living 2. to lose force or vitality 3. to cease existing 4.(informal) to desire greatly. Synonyms: die, decease, depart, expire, go, pass away, perish, succumb.
die(2) n. l. pl. dies. A device that shapes materials by stamping, cutting or punching. 2. pl.dice. One of a pair of dice.

Which raises the questions: 1. What is the difference between living and existing?(I get the feeling I'm about to find out.) 2. How do we shape each other, by dying? 3. What happens to the other one of the pair?
