What is ESCAPADE?
ESCAPADE is the longest-running annual slash convention in the U.S., running in February. ESCAPADE has a 150 person attendance maximum, lots of food, drink and socializing, and plenty of fun.
ESCAPADE is known for its "PC" (purposely controversial) panels, where issues about show-specific fandom, multimedia fandom, fan fiction, the Internet, and fannish culture abound. Double-track panels run from Friday through Sunday, with a total of 33-36 hours of programming in the course of a weekend.
We host two parties and two free, full meals: the Friday night Margarita party has become legend, with free margaritas, music and socializing; the Saturday night video show and fan entertainment guarantee oohs, ahhs and laughter. Friday lunch by the pool (weather permitting) is complimentary,as is the Sunday morning full buffet breakfast.
Why do we do ESCAPADE every year?
ESCAPADE started because we have attended almost every kind of convention, and we wanted to create a con that catered to exactly what the attendees wanted. For that reason, all panel programming and almost all other scheduling is created from attendees' requests and suggestions. We love making ESCAPADE the most welcoming and responsive convention possible, and all that's required is for you to be involved! Register, attend, send in your panel suggestions and volunteer for activities that interest you. Have a wonderful time with friends old and new, find loads of zines and other memorabilia in the Dealers Room, or find a treasure in the "Slash Swap Meet" (a charity fund-raising area that has been rotating through the closets of fandom for years). Logon to the Internet, offer convention updates to our web page throughout the weekend, or copy stories from various Internet libraries onto disks you bring with you. And above all, enjoy yourself!
Where is ESCAPADE?
Our convention hotel is the Santa Barbara Holiday Inn, located in Goleta (6 miles north of downtown Santa Barbara and 1 mile from the Santa Barbara airport).
