Summary of April 9 & 10, 1997 episodes, transcribed by Sandra. Jack & Jenn say their 'tearful goodbyes' to each other yet again, as the judge refuses to grant Jack's appeal....

Jennifer is visiting Jack in prison. This is Jack's first face to face meeting with Jennifer since hearing that she loves him. They are talking to each other through that window in the visitor's area. She previously spoke on the telephone to him in this episode and they said they loved each other in that phone conversation too. I'm posting the dialogue of Jack & Jennifer's first face to face meeting after Jennifer admitted to Jack her love for him:

Jack (looking anxious and optimistic) - So, Mickey thinks the judge is gonna rule on the appeal today.

Jennifer (sounds confident) - It's very possible, Jack. I had to be here with you.

Jack (smiling and leaning forward looking like he desperately wants to be close to Jennifer) - I'm so glad you came, Jenn. (big smile) I love you so much.

Jennifer (smiles back at Jack) - I love you, too.

Jack (looks incredibly happy and has a HUGE smile on his face) - I have dreamed of hearing you say those words for so long.

Jennifer (smiling, but looks sad) - I just wish I hadn't waited until now to say them (Hmm... sounds like Jennifer's admitting that she's loved Jack all along ;-)

Jack - No, it's my fault Jenn. If I hadn't hurt you, then you wouldn't....

Jennifer (interrupts him) - No, Jack. Let's not dwell on the past. Okay? (she smiles at him) Let's just look to the future.

Jack (really smiling again. What a gorgeous smile! He is leaning really close to the window so he can be close to Jennifer's face) - I want to get out of here so badly and put my arms around you.

Jennifer (sounding serious) - This appeal is gonna work Jack. And you're gonna be able to hold me and Abby. She's down in the car with mom right now. (Jennifer puts her hand against the window. Jack places his hand on his side of the window so their hands are 'touching' each other through the glass.) She's waiting to take you home.

Jack smiles. He lovingly looks down at his hand touching Jenn's hand. Then he looks up at Jennifer's eyes and she smiles. She then looks down at her hand 'touching' Jack's through the glass. Then he looks up again and stares directly at her eyes. The scene ends.

Next episode.... Jack is just about to hear from Mickey about whether or not the judge has decided to overturn his conviction. Jack & Jenn are talking to each other, between glass, in that "visitor's area" of the prison.

Jennifer (smiling, but seems kind of nervous) - "I have a good feeling about this, Jack. I think the judge called Uncle Mickey to tell him that he overturned your sentence."

Jack (looks quite nervous and sad) - "Well, then why isn't Mickey back yet?"

Jenn - "He probably just had some legal papers to clear up. (forcing a smile) He's probably got the papers ready for you to sign for your release."

Jack (nods in agreement, but looks very sad) - "Mmm hmm. Well, when you say it Jenn, I almost believe it."

Jennifer - "You have to stay positive, Jack."

Jack (looks very nervous) - "I'm trying, Jenn. (lets out a deep breath) Look, you're being here with me.... it means a lot to me, it's helping quite a bit. But knowing that you love me (small smile) makes all the difference in the world."

Jennifer (very lovingly) - "I do, Jack.

Jack (almost crying) - "I don't know what I'm gonna do. I don't know how I can spend another day away from you and Abby..."

Jennifer (interrupts Jack, sounding very confident) - "Jack, you're gonna be free and home with us tonight. (small smile) And every night from now on."

Jack doesn't say anything. He looks incredibly nervous (he is shuffling around in his seat) and he seems like he is on the verge of tears. He seems like he desperately wants to believe Jennifer, but it's almost as if he's afraid to. Scene ends.

Next scene, Jennifer (smiling) - "Abby and I can't wait to have you home with us, Jack."

Jack (leaning over and looking directly at Jennifer) - "That means so much to me, Jenn. (long pause, he hesitates) But we've gotta be realistic. (pause) What if the judge turns down my appeal?"

Mickey walks into the visiting area where Jennifer is sitting. Mickey looks upset.

Jennifer - "No, Uncle Mickey thinks our chances are very good, Jack."

Jennifer turns around and notices Mickey standing behind her. She gets up and approaches him. Jennifer is smiling and looks very optimistic. Jack gets up from his chair, listening intently to what Mickey is about to say.

Jennifer - "Uncle Mickey!"

Mickey (tries to smile, but has a look of pain on his face) - "Hi, Jennifer and Jack."

Jennifer (very optimistic) - "So, did the judge rule in Jack's favor?"

Mickey (after a couple seconds) - "No, he didn't. I'm sorry."

Jack stands there looking completely defeated. He doesn't really look that shocked though. I guess he kind of expected to hear that news. Jack sits back down again, because he is too upset to even stand up. Jennifer turns around to face Jack and she looks completely shocked. Her smile has quickly disappeared and tears are in her eyes.

Mickey (trying to sound confident -- but he is stumbling on his words -- in an effort to give Jack some hope. He walks towards Jack, who is sitting and now has a look of complete despair on his face) - "But hey look, it's not over. We'll file for another appeal. We'll... get private detectives. We'll bring in new evidence. I mean, whatever it takes Jack."

Jack (looking very defeated. He seems very hyper and is fidgeting in his chair) - "Yeah, look Mickey, it's too late. I've already resigned myself to my fate... here."

Jennifer (sits herself down to face Jack. She has tears in her eyes, but sounding very determined) - "No, Jack! We can't give up. You don't belong here in this prison."

Jack (still fidgeting in his chair, says very matter of factly) - "Well, apparently.... the judge thinks that I do."

Jennifer (turns her head towards Mickey and back to Jack) - "This is so unfair! (screams) Why can't the judge see that Jack is not a cold-blooded murderer?!"

Jack doesn't respond verbally or emotionally to Jennifer's angry comment. He is staring ahead, but not looking at Jennifer. He looks like he has completely given up. The look on his face tells us that he has resigned himself to his fate. Scene ends.

Next scene. Travis is talking to one of Stefano's pawns - a prison guard - and finds out that Jack's appeal was unsuccessful. The guard and Travis figure that Stefano must have gotten to the judge in time to stop the appeal from working (Well gee, what else is new in Salem?!) Guard says that he would never want to cross Stefano DiMera, implying that he'd end up in the same predicament as Jack if he did so. Travis smiles. (What a jerk!) Scene ends.

Next scene. Jennifer and Mickey are now both sitting in front of Jack.

Jennifer (more calm now, she is trying to sound more confident to give Jack some hope) - "Uncle Mickey, can't we appeal to the governor for clemency? You must have some connections. And even Kate and Victor both know the governor. (turns towards Jack) Even Grandma might be able to help." (turns back to face Mickey)

Mickey - "Well, Jennifer, I'll look into it. But, you know, it's extremely rare for a governor to grant clemency especially in a case like this where the appellate judge has already ruled against you." (While Mickey is speaking, the camera shows Jack's face. He is looking at Mickey with tears in his eyes and in complete despair).

Jack (looks sad, but sounds stoic) - "I'm never gonna see my daughter again."

Jennifer (shakes her head and says quietly, with tears in her eyes) - "No, Jack, don't say that."

Jack (sounds a bit mad) - "Well, it's true, Jenn. I'm here for life. She's not gonna come and see me in here."

Jennifer (raises her voice a bit and cries) - "Abby needs you to be a part of her life!"

Jack (very sad look on his face. Again, he sounds very stoic. I guess he's attempting to hide the obvious pain that he's feeling.) - "Well, I'll write her...I'll send her letters. I'll write to her."

Jennifer - "That is not enough, Jack. She needs more!"

Jack (shouts back) - "Well, there's nothing more that I can do, Jenn. Nothing!"

Jack, still in his chair, turns away from Jennifer. Jennifer still has tears in her eyes and looks so upset. She begins to have a flashback to the time when Jack was at home, just before he went to prison. In this flashback, Jack is in Abby's bedroom and is tucking her into bed. Jack leans over and gives Abby a kiss on her forehead.

Jack - "I love you."

Abby (almost asleep) - "I love you too, Daddy." (she closes her eyes and begins to fall asleep)

Jack is looking at Abby with a very sad look on his face. He walks away from her bed to another part of the room. A shadow of a person is seen outside Abby's bedroom door.

Jack (sounds very sad) - "How am I going to say goodbye to you, Abby?....."

We now see that the "shadow" is Jennifer. She is standing next to the doorway, eavesdropping on Jack. She looks very sad too. Her arms are folded. Jack is leaning against a dresser, but still standing up. His arms are folded and he continues talking to Abby who is already asleep....

Jack (speaking very slowly because it is so hard for him to even say these words) - ".....I have to. I'm going away tomorrow. (camera shows Jennifer's eyes begin to fill with tears) I won't be able to help you with anymore of your school projects..... I won't be there to watch you grow up...... I won't be there to check out your boyfriends..... (camera now shows Jack. He is starting to get teary-eyed too) I won't be able to watch you graduate..... And I won't be there to walk you down the aisle.... at your wedding..... And I won't be able to hold my first grandchild...... (camera shows Jennifer and tears are streaming from her eyes) You're too young to understand these things, Abby, but... when you get older, I hope you realize that what I did..... I did out of love.... for you and your mother.... And that if you remember anything else about me (camera shows Jack again, clearly in immense emotional pain)..... you remember that ...... I love you and your mother with all my heart... (camera shows Jenn still crying) ... and I always will." (Jack walks towards Abby, kneels down and strokes her forehead). Flashback ends. We now see Jennifer again at prison, and her eyes are filled with tears.

Jennifer - "I can't let this happen!" (She quickly gets up and leaves)

Jack watches her leave and seems to have a look on his face that suggests that he has accepted his fate. Scene ends.

Next scene. Jack is now speaking to Mickey alone. Jack is leaning forward to speak to Mickey.

Jack - "Mickey, will you do me a favor?"

Mickey - "Well, of course."

Jack - "Will you and Maggie watch out for Jenn? Just make sure that she's getting on with her life. And then maybe.... help her meet a... man that can be a ... father to Abby?"

Mickey - "Jack, why don't you take a few days to get over the shock of this ruling? You don't want to make a decision that you are going to regret later on."

Jack (sounding very determined) - "No, I've had a lot of time to think about this, Mickey. I'm gonna be here for a long time. I'm not gonna be a part of Jennifer and Abby's life, so I might as well just.... just make a clean break."

Mickey - "Jack, you needthem, in your life. You need their love and their protection and concern, (sounding frustrated and raises voice) their support. Jack!" (Jack has his head down in complete despair. He is resting his head on his hand and is clearly trying not to listen to Mickey)

Jack (looks up at Mickey, but still sounding determined) - "Look Mickey, I'll be okay as long as I know that Jennifer and Abby are happy! They'll be a lot happier if I just fade out of their lives!"

Jennifer suddenly walks into the visitor's area and is holding Abby in her arms. Jack looks up and notices Abby and Jennifer there. He looks mad that Jennifer has brought Abby to see him. He turns around in his chair so that he can't look at Abby. He is clearly ashamed to have his daughter see him in prison. He has tears in his eyes.

Jennifer tries to sound happy for Abby. She puts Abby down and Abby and her walk towards the window to speak to Jack.

Jennifer (quietly) - "Please turn around, Jack"

Jack doesn't answer her and is still not looking at them.

Jennifer (sits down to face Jack) - "Please."

Jack reluctantly turns around to face Abby.

Abby (sounds very happy and excited) - "Daddy, come out, please!" (Jack looks at Abby lovingly and forces a smile on his face. His eyes are filled with tears.) Scene ends.

Next scene. Jack is leaning forward to speak to Abby, who is on the other side of the window.

Jack - "Your Daddy has missed you so much, sweetheart. It's so good to see you."

Abby (sounds sad) - "Come over here."

Jack (looks at Jennifer, then back at Abby) - "Well, I... I can't. I have to stay on this side of the glass. That's... that's the rules."

Abby (very quietly) - "You mean, I can't give you a kiss?"

Jack looks at Abby very sadly and doesn't even know what to say to her.

Camera shows Mickey speaking quietly to female prison guard. Mickey tries to convince the guard to let Jack come over to the other side of the glass so he can hold his daughter. The guard says she'd love to help but "rules are rules!" Mickey protests saying that Abby's "heart is breaking" because she can't hug her father. The guard leaves the room.

Jennifer is holding Abby in her arms, comforting Abby. Abby is sitting on Jennifer's lap. Jack is looking lovingly, yet sadly at Abby. They are not saying anything to each other. The guard arrives on Jack's side of the glass and approaches Jack.

Guard - "Come with me."

Jack (sounding very depressed) - "What do you mean? My time... my time's not up yet."

Jennifer (standing up from her chair, sounding sad) - "Please don't do this."

Mickey (gives a reassuring smile, and looks at Jack) - "Ah, Jack, just....just follow orders." (Mickey nods his head as if to say "trust me")

Jack follows the guard out of the prisoner's area. Jennifer asks Mickey how they could do this to them and ask Jack to leave so quickly. Mickey gives Jennifer a reassuring smile. Abby asks where her daddy has gone. Jennifer kneels down to face Abby and says with a smile on her face "Sweetie, I think Uncle Mickey has a big surprise for you."

Jack enters the visitor's area. Abby rushes over to Jack and he lifts her up to hold her in his arms. He smiles through his tears and kisses her on her shoulder. Jennifer is smiling and has tears in her eyes. Jack is holding Abby very close to him and is also smiling through his tears. Jennifer walks up to Jack and leans her head and hands on Abby's back and closes her eyes, clearly looking very relieved to be able to be so close to Jack. The scene ends with the three of them in a "group hug".

Next scene. Jack is sitting down with Abby on his lap. Jennifer smiles and gives Jack a picture that Abby drew about Easter. Jack is trying to make Abby's visit with him enjoyable so his tone of voice is very happy. He asks her about the picture, etc. Jennifer, still with tears in her eyes, is smiling and watching them talk to each other. Jennifer has this look of complete love for Jack and Abby. Jack asks Abby if her mommy and grandma had a good Easter. She says yes. Jack asks Abby if she misses him and she says yes. He says he misses her all the time. Abby then says "let's go home now, Daddy." Jack looks so sad when she says this. He looks up at Jennifer and she clearly starts to become very sad and teary-eyed when hearing Abby ask this. Mickey puts his hand on Jennifer's arms to comfort her. Jack, looking so sad, kisses Abby on the side of her head. Scene ends.

Next scene, Jack (beginning to get up from chair, and lifts Abby in his arms) - "Now, I can't go home with you Abby. But, I'm gonna write to you and I'm gonna call you every chance I can get."

Jennifer (quietly) - "And I'm gonna bring you back to visit Daddy very soon."

Jack - "Hey, I want you to take good care of your grandma and your mommy, okay?" (camera shows Jennifer looking at Jack & Abby with tears in her eyes)

Abby (quietly) - "Okay."

Jack (sounding more sad. He brushes back Abby's hair) - "I love you, Abby."

Abby - "I love you too." (he kisses her on the cheek)

Jennifer tells Abby to go downstairs with Mickey and that she'll be down to meet them in a minute. Mickey takes Abby and they leave the visitor's area. Jack watches Abby leave and he has this heartbroken look on his face. Jack & Jennifer are now alone except for the prison guard. Jack walks closer to Jennifer, and has his hands on her arms. He begins to speak to Jennifer with tears in his eyes. His face is very close to Jennifer's and he is looking directly at her.

Jack (very quietly) - "Jenn, I want to thank you for this moment and for every moment that we've ever shared."

Jennifer (crying, says quietly) - "Jack, don't give up..."

Jack (very quietly) - "Look, Jenn...."

Jennifer (crying) - "I'm going to do everything in my power to get your sentence overturned."

Jack (tears in his eyes) - "Listen, I want you just to get ... just to get on with your life, alright?..."

Jennifer - "no... (She leans forward and interrupts Jack with a passionate kiss. Although he was just trying to tell her to "move on", Jack is unable to resist his passion for her at this moment. As they are kissing each other, her hand is on the back of his neck and his hand on the back of her neck.)

After five seconds or so, the guard intrudes on their passionate kiss and says "I'm sorry, but it's time." (UGGH! Those stupid guards always say that!) Jack & Jennifer don't listen to the guard and continue to kiss for a couple more seconds. Finally, they reluctantly pull away from each other but continue to lean forward and look as though they desperately want to continue kissing and holding each other. They stand apart from each other, each still holding the other's arms. Jack gently pulls Jennifer towards him and with tears quickly filling his eyes, he looks directly at her and says "I love you, Jenn. (he's really crying now) You and Abby mean everything to me." Jennifer, choking back tears, says quietly "We love you too." Jack gently places his hand on her face and brushes back her bangs which are partially covering her eye. Forcing a smile through her tears, she responds "We'll see you soon." Jack walks away and leaves the room. Jennifer watches him leave. When she's finally all alone, she looks like she is completely overwhelmed with grief. She is crying and looks totally devastated. The scene ends.

I don't have the next scene on tape but, if I'm not mistaken, I believe Jack is looking at Jennifer through the window in a door and can see that she is sitting there, all alone, in complete grief. I think Travis is there and asks Jack what's wrong. And Jack tells him the whole story and Travis pretends he cares. And then Jack leaves and Travis mumbles something to himself about how great it is that Stefano's plan is working. That's the end of the show.
