Jennifer is driving in heavy snow. She has just left Chicago where she was trying to find information on Clark. Of course, she found Jack and they argued and Jennifer left him behind in Chicago when the snowstorm hit. She is trying to make it back in Salem before the storm hits. Little does she know that Jack is hiding out in the backseat.
Jennifer is on the phone talking to Peter. Jack listens from the back. Jennifer explains that there was a terrible snowstorm that closed the airport. She coughs but claims that it's just a little cold. She tells Peter that she ran into Jack in Chicago and that he is stranded there as she got the last rental car. Peter lets Jennifer know that Jack has filed for custody of Abby. Jennifer is extremely upset. Peter tells her to concentrate on getting home safely. She tells him that she loves him and she hangs up.
Jennifer -- (to herself) It's so wonderful to have a man like Peter in my life. I'm never gonna let you win Jack.
Jack -- (pops up from the back seat) Wanna Bet!
Jennifer swerves in shock. Jack tells her to watch out.
Jennifer -- Jack, what are you doing in this car!
Jack -- Trying to get back to Salem and in one piece.
Jennifer -- Yeah? Well, not in my car and not with me!
She slams on the brakes and the tires squeal. She jumps out of the car and opens up the back door.
Jennifer -- Get out! Get out now, Jack!
Jack -- (gets out) You can't be serious!
Jennifer -- I have never been more serious about anything in my life, alright. How many times to I have to tell you, go! Get out! Adios! Ciao! Asta la vista, baby! What else do I have to say to you?
Jack -- Jennifer, I'm not dressed to go out in the wilderness like this. You don't want me to freeze, do you? (she looks at him with a devious smile) DO YOU?
Jennifer -- I'm thinking about it.
Jack -- Come on, Jennifer. A little compassion, maybe, huh?
Jennifer -- You are so absolutely aggravating, do you know that?
Jack -- Does that mean that I can stay in the car?
Jennifer -- Yes! Only until I can find a place to dump you off.
Jack -- Great.
He rushes into the front seat and closes the door. Jennifer closes the back door and looks into the driver's window, which is closed.
Jennifer -- What are you doing?
Jack -- (shouts through the window) I can drive better in the snow than you do.
Jennifer -- I can drive better in the snow!
Jack -- You nearly just drove us off the road!
Jennifer -- I almost drove off the road cause you jumped over the seat and grabbed the steering wheel!
Jack -- Get in the bus is leaving!
Jennifer -- Don't you dare! Don't you . . . don't . . .(she runs around the car to the passenger side)
Jack -- Come on, let's go!
Jennifer -- This is so like you. You are so arrogant and so self centered, Jack. Do you know that? Do you hear me? (she gets into the car) I hate you!
Jack -- I love you!
Jennifer -- Don't say that to me. (she says something but mumbles it)
Jack -- Jennifer, if you would just listen to me.
There is a news report that comes over the radio that discusses the snow storm.
Jack -- (to the radio) Tell me something I don't know!
Jennifer -- Would you be quiet!
The announcement continues.
Jennifer -- We are on state 74. Maybe we should just turn back for Chicago.
Jack -- These guys love to exaggerate.
Jennifer -- Yeah, well you would know. I still think we should turn around and go back. It's too dangerous.
Jack -- Jennifer, no. We got this far, didn't we. Come on, I can beat any storm.
Some time has passed and Jennifer has nodded off. She slowly awakens.
Jennifer -- What's going on? Where are we?
Jack -- I don't know. I haven't seen any signs.
Jennifer -- The snow has gotten really heavy, Jack.
Jack -- Hey, I have driven through worse. (he smiles) I'm sorry about scaring you before.
Jennifer -- I really don't want to talk about it. I think that we should just turn around and go back to Chicago, really.
Jack -- No, Jennifer we'd be heading right back into the worst of it.
Jennifer -- You don't know that.
Jack -- I'll get us home safely, okay.
Jennifer -- Well, there's really no point arguing with you since you always think that you are right, so just be careful, okay.
Jack -- You are in good hands.
Jennifer -- Oh, I've heard that before.
Jack -- (turns to look at her) Jennifer, I know that I haven't always been the most trustworthy guy in the past, but I have changed. I really have changed.
Jennifer -- (unconvinced) Yeah. That's why you're suing for joint custody of Abby, right.
Jack -- Jen, I don't like having to fight you for Abigail.
Jennifer -- What! You know, I have a hard time believing that because I know for a fact that you were in Chicago getting affidavits to explain what a splendid father you are. And then you are going to try to take Abigail away from me, right?
Jack -- No, no no no. I'm not trying to take Abigail away from you, okay. I am her father. I have a right to be a part of her life.
Jennifer -- You disappeared out of her life for a year Jack. That didn't seem to bother you at all.
Jack -- Yeah, it did bother me, Jennifer. It bothered me more than you could possibly know. It almost killed me to come back and hear my little girl calling some other man, daddy.
Jennifer -- Well what did you expect. Peter was there for her, you weren't.
Jack -- Yeah, well I am here now okay and I am staying. Jennifer, you and Abigail and I we are a family and we belong together okay. That's why I am pursuing this case, it's to prove that to you.
Jennifer -- You know, there is no way in the world that I am ever going to come back to you.
Jack -- (looks at her) Jennifer if you would just listen to me . . .
Jennifer -- Keep your eyes on the road Jack. Put your eyes on the road.
Jack -- I know what I am doing.
Jennifer -- (looks on in horror) Jack, watch out! Look . . .
The car swerves off the road.
Jack -- Jennifer?
Jennifer -- What happened?
Jack -- The car slid into a snowbank. Are you alright?
Jennifer -- Yeah, I think so.
Jack -- (leans towards her) If anything ever happened to you.
Jennifer -- I'm fine, really. What about the car?
Jack -- I don't know. I am going to go check for damages. Stay here.
He gets out of the car and looks at the back and front of the car.
Jennifer -- Well?
Jack -- Give me the phone. I heard you talking on the phone.
Jennifer -- I have it right here. (she gets the phone out and tries to make a call) The phone is dead. We're stranded out here in the middle of nowhere aren't we.
Jack -- No no. Not in the middle of nowhere. There has to be something nearby. A gas station. Something.
Jennifer -- Jack, we haven't seen another car here for miles. Maybe if we just sit in the car with the heat on, maybe someone will come by eventually, don't you think.
Jack -- No, Jen, if we do that, we are just going to freeze to death. Somebody has to go for help. I'll go for help.
Jennifer -- Alright, I'll go with you. We'll both go.
Jack -- No, no. You have to stay here. What if something happened to the both of us?
Jennifer -- Abby.
Jack -- For her sake, Jen.
Jennifer -- Yeah, yeah for her sake.
Jack -- Okay, make sure you check the gas level, okay. Only heat the car when absolutely necessary. And keep the window opened ajar to avoid the carbon monoxide fumes. Okay, I'll be right back.
Jennifer -- Wait, you know, I want to give you my scarf. I left it on the plane and it's a good thing that I went back for it cause you are really gonna need it.
Jack -- You are going to need this more than I do.
Jennifer -- No, I want you take it.
She places the scarf around his neck and stares into his eyes.
Jack -- Okay, thanks. I promise I won't let you down this time Jennifer. I'll be back soon.
Jennifer -- Jack, be really careful okay.
Jack -- Hey, I'm part husky, didn't I tell you? (he smiles and then she smiles) Wish me luck.
Jennifer -- Good Luck.
Jack exits the car and heads on his way. Jennifer is left alone in the car.
Jennifer -- Dear God, please be with Jack. Just guide him through the storm and keep him safe. I know that our marriage didn't work out, but we made a beautiful baby together and she needs both of her parents. Please don't let Jack die. (she looks at the gas gage) Oh know, oh know. No gas, no heat. Come on Jack. Hurry up. Hurry up Jack.
