Episode Summary | transcribed by Mystic |
The Next Morning
[In the hotel room, Jack and Jennifer are sleeping. Jenn is sleeping
on the bed. Jack is sleeping on the
couch. Jack is wearing no shirt, only blue silk pajama pants.
Jenn wakes up and looks at Jack on the couch.]
Jenn - (quietly to herself) Uncomfortable, aren't you Jack? You should have your own room and your own bed like all the other bank trainees. But no, you had to say we were married. (stares at Jack then gets off the bed. She also wearing silk pajamas, pants and top) Well, I'm gonna take a shower before you get up and use all the hot water! (she marches into the bathroom and closes the door. The sound of the door closing wakes up Jack. He sits up and looks over at the empty bed)
Jack - Jenn must have gone out to breakfast..... What I need is a good, hot shower.
[He gets up and starts walking over to the bathroom. Well, I think you know what's coming. Jack walks into the bathroom just as Jenn is taking her top off. She doesn't notice Jack, but boy does he notice her!! LOL! Hey Jack, it isn't polite to stare! But that's what he does. He's so surprised]
------------------------------
[Jack is out of the bathroom putting on his silk pajama top now. It matches his pajama pants. Jenn storms out of the bathroom putting her pajama top back on]
Jenn - (furious) I can't believe you just walked in on me like that!
Jack - Well, how am I supposed to know you're in the bathroom?!
Jenn - Well, haven't you ever heard of knocking?!
Jack - Well, haven't you ever heard of locking doors?!
Jenn - I wouldn't have to lock the bathroom door if you wouldn't come barging into the bathroom unannounced! (pauses) You know, you did this before -- when you moved back into the house with me, remember?
Jack - Yeah, well in the old days I never had to worry about walking in on you.
Jenn - Oh. Well, these aren't the old days!
Jack - You know, we used to argue about the bathroom all the time when we were married. (gives Jenn a flirtatious smile) It was kind of fun.
Jenn - (pauses) Well..... it's not fun anymore. (walks away)
Jack - (follows her) Yeah, well things are different when you're in love.
Jenn - Oh drop it Jack!! I'm here because I want to help John. The first step to that is to find access to that account. Find out who's paying off Jude. (Jack nods. He looks a little disappointed. I think he's sad that Jenn changed the subject) Well, Jude was in Aremid when Tony was murdered. I think we can prove that. And if we find his boss and his connection to Tony, then we can prove he's a viable suspect!
Jack - Mm hmm. Yeah, it sounds like a great plan. But I just wonder if Judge Walker's gonna be willing to hear new evidence.
Jenn - Of course he will be.
Jack - (not believing that) Well, he decided to convict John in no time flat. He didn't even give him time for an appeal. (moves closer to Jenn) And I just wonder how much pressure Peter put on him. (he starts to walk away)
Jenn - (grabs Jack's arm and stops him) Are you saying Peter threatened the judge? Or payed him off?
Jack - No, no, no, no, no. Of course not. (but the way he says it, we know that's exactly what he's saying) I'm just saying, the wheels of justice -- they usally grind someone slowly. But this judge has just put it into high gear already.
Jenn - Well, if we come up with new evidence, I'm sure the court of appeals will consider it.
Jack - And I just hope you're ready for what we might find.
Jenn - (looks ticked off) For the last time Jack -- Peter is not involved with Jude!
Jack - Well don't you just think it's a little bit strange that Peter shows up at the station house on the same day that they're supposed to open the files in Jude's office?
Jenn - No, I don't think it's strange at all! If there was a connection between Jude and Tony, I think Peter wanted to know!
Jack - For John and to protect himself and Tony!
Jenn - OH, I REFUSE TO LISTEN TO THIS!!! (walks away)
Jack - (follows her again, upset that he got her mad) Listen Jenn... I hope you're right about Peter. The last thing I want is to see you hurt again!
Jenn - (stares at him meanly) I'm gonna go take my shower. (she walks back into the bathroom and shuts the door)
Jack - (to himself) I'm afraid you will be hurt again, Jenn. I think Peter's keeping a lot of secrets from you. Today just might be the day you find out the truth.
------------------------------------
[Jack is sitting at a table reading. He's wearing another suit -- another light blue shirt and tie (a little darker blue than the previous day, but still light) and white jacket and pants. Jenn comes out of the bathroom. She's wearing a cute, yellow printed minidress and her hair is up in a french twist. Jack sees her and walks over to her]
Jack - Uh.... are you ready?
Jenn - We have an hour before class starts. Why don't we have breakfast?
Jack - (looks worried) No, you go on ahead.
Jenn - (surprised) What, you're skipping breakfast?
Jack - Well, I thought you'd be happy to get away from me.
Jenn - Well, not if it means listening to you grumble about it all day. I know how you get when you're hungry. (she smiles)
Jack - (doesn't smile back) I'll be fine.
Jenn - (surprised and confused) Come on!
Jack - (hesitates) No, just go ahead, all right? (turns away)
Jenn - Jack, what is with you?
Jack - (looks at Jenn) Jenn, I'm flat broke.
Jenn - What?
Jack - I don't have a penny to my name!
Jenn - But you've been covering John's trial for weeks for the station!
Jack - Right, but I haven't drawn a paycheck since we left Salem. I spent all my money conducting this investigation.
Jenn - What about your credit cards?
Jack - (takes his credit cards out of his wallet and throws them on the table) It's maxed out. I spent the last of it trying to get the plane tickets to come down here.
[Jenn stares at him for awhile. Jack notices her looking at him.]
Jack - What are you staring at?
Jenn - (gives him a tiny smile) No, it's just so ironic. I mean, money
was the holy grail behind every
one of your wild schemes.
Jack - (pauses) Yeah....... well, things are different now.
Jenn - Yeah... You spent every cent helping John, someone you hardly even know....... Why?
---------------------------------
Jenn - Jack, why have you given up so much for John?
Jack - I haven't give up that much. John's the one who's been unjustly accused and convicted of murder. He's gonna be executed unless somebody comes up with the evidence.
Jenn - You've believed in John's innocence from the very beginning.
Jack - Along with a lot of other people. I just knew I couldn't live with myself if I gave up on John.
Jenn - (pauses) Myabe you really have changed Jack.
Jack - (looks down at the floor) Yeah, well It's no big deal. I'll tell you what. Go get breakfast and I'll meet you at the bank.
Jenn - (reaches for her purse) Jack, let my pay you for the plane ticket.
Jack - (stops her) No, Jenn. Jenn, I'll get reimbursed by the station.
Jenn - (hesitates) All right. At least let me buy you breakfast. (smiles)
Jack - (smiles back and finally gives in) ... All right, all right. You gotta deal. (stares at her awhile, lovingly) Thanks Jenn.
Jenn - (still smiling) You're welcome, Jack.
[Jenn walks past Jack and out the door. Jack, still standing there smiling, turns around and follows Jenn outside]
---------------------------------
[Jack and Jennifer arrive back at the bank, both anxious to get onto the computer]
Jenn - We still have a couple more minutes until class starts.
Jack - I gotta figure out a way to get onto those computers.
[Shawna is sitting behind her computer staring at Jack. She starts waving at him. Jenn sees this]
Jenn - Jack. (taps his arm) The girl you were flirting with yesterday is waving at you.
Jack - (smiles and waves at Shawna) Oh! Hey, Shawna! (to Jenn) I'm gonna go talk to her before class starts. I just hope she doesn't figure out that we're married.
Jenn - (quick to correct him) We're not married.
Jack - Yeah, but we're pretending to be married to stay in this class.
Jenn - Well, I don't think she knows anything about the bank trainees.
Jack - Well, I hope not. If she knew that I was cheating on you, she probably wouldn't even talk to me at all. (he smiles and waves at Shawna again. Then he looks at Jenn and smiles mischeviously) Try not to act so jealous.
Jenn - (tries to hide her smile) You make me crazy, Jack.
Jack - That's okay. Be crazy. But don't get angry. If she sees that you're angry, that'll definitely tip her off that we're married.
Jenn - We're not married.
Jack - (ignores that) I'll be right back. (he walks over to Shawna and starts talking to her.
[Mr. Billingsly arrives and greets Jenn. The other bank trainees all gather around him. Jack sees this and comes running back to Jenn.]
Jack - (to Jenn quietly) Shawna's taking an early lunch break. That's when I can get on the computer.
Jenn - Good.
Mr. B - Mr. Deveraux!
Jack - Yes sir?
Mr. B - Would you like to share your thoughts with the whole class?
Jack - No, they're --
Mr. B - (interrupts) Then please be quiet and let's go to the classroom, please.
Jack - On my way! (starts to follow Mr. Billingsly)
Jenn - (stops Jack) You know, Mr. Billingsly could be a problem.
Jack - I know. We gotta find a way to distract him while I get on the computer.
Jenn - Well what?
Jack - I don't know! ........ but I'll think of something. Don't worry about it. I always do. (he touches Jenn's arm then walks away. Jenn follows him, looking like she has doubts)
------------------------------
[Jack and Jenn come out of the classroom]
Jack - I have to manage this time to get on the computer.
(they run into Shawna)
Shawna - Jack!
Jack - Shawna, hi!
Shawna - Hi. I'm going to lunch in about 10 minutes. Would you like to join me?
[Jenn is standing behind Shawna with a grin on her face, enjoying watching Jack deal with this]
Jack - I'd love to, but we're only on a short break from class.
Shawna - Well, how about after class?
Jack - That sounds good to me! But I have to find out how much homework Billingsly's gonna give me, but I'll let you know! (Jenn's grin widens)
Shawna - (laughs) Okay. But just remember -- all work and no play makes Jack a dull boy!
[Jenn's almost ready to burst out laughing now]
Jack - (smiles) Right. (watches Shawna leave) See ya!
[Jenn moves closer to Jack and starts laughing]
Jenn - Homework, Jack?
Jack - Well, I had to think of something.
Jenn - Of all the lame excuses!
Jack - Would you rather I go out with her?
Jenn - (pauses, caught off-guard) I don't care who you go out with Jack......... as long as it's not my mother.
Jack - (that takes him by surprise) I - I thought we were past that.
Jenn - Oh, well we're not. We just had other things to think about.
Jack - One mistake and you're not gonna let me forget it for the rest of my life, are you? (starts to crack a smile)
Mr. B - (shows up and interrupts them) Bicker! Bicker! Bicker! And yet we're still inseperable. It's obvious that you two have been married for quite a long time.
[Mr. Billingsly sits down at his desk]
Jack - You're gonna take your break here?
Mr. B - Yes, I've spent too much time cooped up in that classroom.
Jack - Right. (he pulls Jenn aside)
[Jack tells Jenn that time is running out and they have to get on the computer. Jack asks her if she had come up with a plan yet. Jenn says that Jack said he would come up with a plan. He denies that. Anyway, they decide that Jenn will distract Mr. Billingsly as Jack gets on the computer. Later, Jenn asks Mr. Billingsly to explain to her some stuff about bank training. As he does, Jenn gives Jack the signal that it's okay to get on the computer now. He does. Jack is on that computer for awhile trying to get to the files where the information is kept. He hits a road block when he finds out that he needs a password. He tries obvious ones like "bank" and "Shawna". Then he sees a picture on Shawna's desk and realizes it's her daughter. He types in her daughter's name as the password and he gets in. If you remember, Peter had found out that Jack and Jenn were at the Cayman Islands and that they were probably on the computers. So he hired this computer whiz to break into the computer files to erase his name as the owner of the account. Jack gets really close to the truth, but as usual, at the last minute Peter escapes getting caught by Jack. Meanwhile, Jennifer's having a really hard time keeping Mr. Billingsly distracted. Mr. Billingsly finally sees Jack on the computer.]
Mr. B - What do you think you are doing?!!
Jack - (stands up) Uh, Mr. Billingsly!
Mr. B - I told you to stay away from the computer!
Jack - (smiles) Yeah, but I'm just such a computer nut!
Mr. B - There shouldn't be any touching of the equipment at all! Our files are highly confidential.
Jack - Right. Sorry. Won't happen again. I'll just get out of this and put it back to the menu. (he sits back down and looks at the computer screen)
------------------------------
Mr. B - Get away from that machine! Break is over! Come along! I don't want to see you near that computer again! (he storms off)
Jack - Right. (stands and walks away from the comptuer)
Jenn - Jack, you have no idea what I had to go through to keep him distracted. Did you find out anything?
Jack - (looks stunned) Yeah, I had the account coming up on the screen just before Billingsly interrupted me.
Jenn - Did you see anything?
Jack - (pauses) Yeah, I saw a name. Then I looked back just now and the name was gone.
Jenn - (getting impatient) Well, do you remember the name?
Jack - (pauses again) Yeah........ the first name.
Jenn - Well, what was it?! (Jack stares at her) Jack! Whose name was on the account?!!
Jack - (almost doesn't say it because he doesn't want to hurt her, but finally answers) Peter's.
[Jenn looks shocked]
--------------------------------------
Jenn - You're making it up, Jack!
Jack - No, I'm not!
Jenn - You saw Peter Blake's name on that screen?
Jack - No, I saw Peter's name on the screen.
Jenn - Yeah! Well, there could be a lot of men named Peter who have accounts here.
Jack - Yeah, but you have to admit it's an awfully big coincidence, isn't it?
Jenn - No, I don't have to admit that! In fact, I don't even think you saw Peter's name on the account. You're making it up because you want to wreck my relationship with my husband so much.
Jack - (narrows his eyes) Why don't you just face the truth? Peter's involved with Jude.
Jenn - It's not the truth! (she starts to walk away but Jack stops her)
Jack - Listen to me! I'm not gonna let you go until I convince you that Peter is working with Jude. Now come on!
[Jack pulls Jenn into this room and he slams the door shut]
Jack - I don't want Billingsly to hear us.
[Jenn runs to the door and tries to open it. She turns around and looks at Jack, mad]
Jenn - No one's gonna hear us! You just locked us in the vault!
Jack - (walks to the door) What are you talking about? (he tries to open it too but realizes that Jenn is right)
-----------------------------------------
[Jack and Jenn are looking all around the vault for a way to get out]
Jenn - There must be some kind of alarm we can set off.
Jack - There's not. I checked.
Jenn - I can't believe you got us locked in here!
Jack - Jenn..... (he has a look that says, "Don't even start with me, okay?")
Jenn - Actually, yes I can believe it because this is so typical of you.
Jack - It was a mistake.
Jenn - The mistake was coming down here to the Cayman Islands with you in the first place.
Jack - Jennifer, connecting Jude St. Claire to this bank account was the only hope we had of saving John.
Jenn - Well, we failed. And now John's running out of time.
---------------------------------
[Jack is pacing back and forth]
Jenn - (annoyed) Will you stop pacing please?
Jack - (stops) I can't stop thinking about John. Pacing helps to ease the tension. (he continues)
Jenn - Yeah, well you're making it worse for me!
Jack - (snaps at her) Well, I'm sorry! ....... (then feels bad about it) Look, I'm sorry........ Why hasn't this Mr. Billingsly found us yet? Ever since we started this training program, he hasn't taken his eyes off of us!
Jenn - I don't know. Maybe he's hoping we decided to finally quit the program. He was so angry when he found you working on the computer.
Jack - Yeah, well I would've lost the information anyway.
Jenn - (blames herself) Not if I were to keep him busy.
Jack - (looks at her) Jenn, someone knew that I was in those files. They were deleted by someone. Someone working for Peter.
Jenn - You're wrong!!
Jack - Well, we'll find out when we get back to Aremid.
Jenn - Well, that can't be soon enough for me!
[Someone starts to unlock the door]
Jenn - Finally!
[Mr. Billingsly walks in, followed by two policemen]
Jack - (laughs) Mr. Billingsly! You're not gonna believe what happened! I can explain everything. This was --
Mr. B - Save your breath, Mr. Deveraux. I know who you and Mrs. Deveraux really are. You're reporters! And you're snooping into this bank's affairs is over. These two gentlemen will take you to the airport and see you're on the first plane back to the United States.
Jack - (stunned) Uh.... how did you know who we were?
Mr. B - We do exhausted background checks on all our trainees.
Jack - Oh.
Mr. B - There was no file on either of you, so I began an inquiry.
Policeman - You have two choices, friends -- leave or go to jail.
Jack - (pauses) What were those two choices --
Jenn - Come on Jack!! We can't help John if we're in jail.
[She starts to walk out of the vault and Jack follows her out, the policemen right behind them. Mr. Billingsly takes out his cellular phone and calls Peter and tells him that everything's taken care of. I guess Peter tipped him off.]
