Jennifer is in her bedroom listening to her answering machine.
She is listening to a message left by Peter and she is trying to comprehend the awful truth she had just
found out about him. Meanwhile, Jack is still planning to take that job offer in Hong Kong.
He comes back home after forgetting his plane ticket and passport. Laura is in the living
room when Jack comes back. He tells her that he's leaving and she's upset by it. Jack says
that he has to go. He hugs Laura goodbye and walks to the front door. He opens it and is about
to walk out when Jennifer, who is standing on the stairs, calls out his name. Jack turns around
and looks up at Jennifer.
Laura - Why don't I make a pot of tea for us, Jenn. Have a safe trip, Jack.
Jack - Thanks, Laura.
Laura leaves them alone.
Jenn - (who is now downstairs and standing right in front of Jack) So you're leaving?
Jack - Yeah, I was on my way to the airport and I forgot my ticket and passport.
Jenn - (gives him a tiny smile) That's not like you.
Jack - Yeah, I know. (he walks past Jenn and back into the house)
Well, maybe I just wanted to
come by and take one last look at the place. I remember when
we bought this house. We had
so little money. (pauses) We had a lot of dreams though.
(faces Jennifer and smiles at her)
What ever happened to all those dreams?
Jenn - (smiles back, with tears in her eyes) You left. Just like you're leaving now...
Jack - No, Jenn. This time it's different. I'm not abandoning
anyone. I'm not sneaking away. My
staying here can only make things worse.
Jenn - How can things get any worse?
Jack - Jenn, you need time to decide whether you believe me or Peter.
And I don't want to be in
the way. You have a right to make that decision without any interference
from me.
Jenn - I know the truth about Peter. And you were right, Jack.
He's a liar and an evil man. (Jack
looks like he can't believe what Jennifer is saying) And he deceived
me and my daughter. But
worst of all, he tried to drive my mother insane.
CRASH! Their conversation is interrupted when Laura, who has overheard
Jenn, drops the tray
and cups of tea she was holding.

Jack moves Laura out of the way so he can clean up the mess. Laura
is losing it as Jennifer
walks her over to the couch.
Jenn - Mom, I'm so sorry. I didn't want you to find out this way.
Laura - Peter..... he tried to drive me insane...
Jenn - (quietly) Yes.
Laura - Why? (starts crying) I mean, how could he want me to go through that again?
Jack - Laura, Peter is a monster. He'd make anyone suffer as long as he gets what he wants.
Jenn - He's out of my life from now on. Mom, he's out of my life
forever. (Jack stares at Jenn,
finally hearing the words he has waiting so long for)
They hear the sound of a car pulling into the driveway.
Jenn - That's Peter.... That's Peter... Mom? I want you to go upstairs.
Laura - No... no. I want to face him.
Peter walks right into the house and sees Jack.
Peter - (in a friendly manner) Jack! What are you still
doing here? I thought you were leaving
the country.
Jack - (shakes his head) No. I'm not going anywhere.
Jack starts walking towards Peter, not really looking at him.
And when Jack finally reaches
Peter, BAM!! Peter gets punched hard in the face. Peter
falls to the floor as Jack continues to
beat the crap out of him.
Jenn - Stop it!! No! Jack! Jack!!!

Jack and Peter are still fighting. Peter hits Jack in the face
and Jennifer is finally able to break
them up.
Jenn - No! Stop it!! What is the use in fighting?!!
(Jack fixes his jacket as he stands next to
Jennifer)
Peter - (fixing his jacket too) I agree, Jenn. There is
no use in fighting because I've already won.
So we shouldn't let Jack's ugly little temper ruin what is supposed
to be a wonderful moment for
us. An important moment, Jenn. I have something for you.
(he reaches into his jacket, pulls out
a key, and holds it up for Jennifer to see) Take it.
Jenn - (shakes her head) I can't.
Peter - Jenn, it's the key to our new home!
Jenn - No, Peter. The game is over.
Peter - (confused) What game? What are you talking about?
Jenn - I know the truth. I saw Daniel and he told me everything.
Peter - (looking worried) What?
Jenn - Yeah. He confirmed every cruel and heartless thing that
Jack ever accused you of doing.
Including your little plan to hurt my mother. (Laura stares
at Peter, looking slightly unbalanced
and scared). I have never despised anyone as much as I despise
you right now.
Jack stares at Jennifer while she says this, looking almost happy that
she finally knows the truth.
Peter, on the other hand, is looking very worried.

Peter - Jenn, no. Daniel was lying. I proved that to you.
Jenn - No!!! I tricked him into telling me the truth. I
told him that you told me all about your
illegal activities and that I had forgiven you. And he bought
my act! Although it was really hard
for him to believe that I could forgive you for gaslighting my mother.
Peter - Jennifer --
Jenn - You made her think she was losing her mind!! You drugged
her into a stupor and planted
microphones in her office?!! So that she would think she was
hearing voices. Because of you,
my mother almost killed herself. You are like Stefano.
Just like Jack has said time and time
again. (Jack looks at Jennifer, with a tiny smile) But
I was blinded to it -- by pride! Because I
couldn't admit that I might have made a mistake in loving you...
and trusting your kindness to me
and my daughter. (pauses and looks at Peter with complete hatred
in her eyes) I adored you,
Peter. I lived with you and shared my daughter with you...
and my bed... and I didn't even know
you!!!
Peter - Yes, you did!! Don't say that, Jenn! I'm the man that you love!!
Jenn - NO!!! The person that I loved, that I gave my heart to,
doesn't even exist!! I MADE HIM
UP!!! All you are is a fake!!!
Peter - Jenn, don't say that. If I could just explain --
Jenn - I want you out of my life..... out of my daughter's life.... forever.
Peter - No, let me just explain --
Jenn - Get out. (she walks to the front door, opens it and looks
at Peter. He isn't budging) GET
OUT!!!
Peter slowly makes his way to the front door and walks out. Jennifer
slams the door behind him.
Jack is holding Laura in his arms because she is a wreck. We
see Peter outside on the porch as
he bows his head down, knowing that he has lost.

Jack and Jennifer guide Laura over to the couch so she can sit down.
Jack looks up at Jennifer,
wondering what this turn of events means for them. Jennifer looks
back at Jack but has no
expression on her face. She looks back at her mom.
Jenn - Come on, mom. Let me take you upstairs.
Jennifer helps Laura up the stairs and Jack is left alone in the living
room. He looks like he is
trying to take in what just happened.
Jack - (to himself) You're safe now, Jenn. But have I saved
you only to lose you? I want you
back more than anything. But is that possible?
