Episode Summary | transcribed by Mystic |
This took place in November 1994. Jack and Laura were at the Meadows and they only knew each other as "Clark" and "Monica". As you probably know, Jack and Laura had an affair while they were there. Well, this summary is about that one night.
Laura had a big date with Daniel scheduled. However, Peter
found out about it and didn't want Daniel having any contact with Laura. Peter got Daniel to cancel his date with Laura by sending her a telegram saying that he couldn't go. Laura was extremely upset when she found out Daniel had cancelled. Meanwhile, Jack had a phone conversation with Jennifer which didn't go the way he had hoped. Jennifer basically told him that he was out of her life and that it was too late for them to get back together. Jack, naturally, became upset about that. He heads over to "Monica's" room and knocks on the door...
[Laura, still crying, walks over to the door and opens it]
Jack - Monica, I'm sorry. I know that you're getting ready but I have to talk to you.
Laura - (concerned) Your wife. Did you talk to your ex-wife?
Jack - Yes. And it's history. It's over between us. I'm out of her mind. I'm out of her heart. I'm out of her life.
Laura - (sympathetically hugs him) I'm sorry.
[Laura lets go and walks past him, trying to hide her own tears. Jack sees that she's upset though]
Jack - Monica...
Laura - (turns around and faces Jack) Well, at least your ex-wife phoned you. (shows him the telegram) He couldn't even tell me over the phone.
Jack - Well, I don't understand. How could he do something like this. Why?
Laura - He doesn't want to see me anymore. It's really not his fault.
Jack - (moves closer to Laura) What do you mean it's not his fault? This guy just lead you on. This guy's a bastard.
Laura - (hesitates) No, no. You can't imagine how it was the last time I saw him. He wants a complete woman. (forces a smile) You can't blame him for that, can you? He's probably just afraid that I.... (starts to cry) I can't be that to him! I can't be that to any man!
Jack - (hugs her and tries to comfort her) Hey, hey. You connected with me. (pulls her away so he could see her face) For a whole year I was just shut off from my family and my friends and feelings. Then I met you. You taught me what it was like to feel again. You saved me from pain, from despair.
Laura - (whispers) You could have done that without me.
Jack - (hugs her close again) No, no, no. I couldn't have opened up to anyone else. I couldn't have trusted anyone else. I couldn't have connected with anyone else the way I connected with you.
[Laura pulls away and looks at Jack, their faces really close. [Jack kisses her]
Jack - I need you so much.
Laura - I need you.
[They begin to kiss again. Jack bends down and lifts up Laura in his arms and carries her over to the bed]
-------------------------------
You know what happens here...
-------------------------------
immediately afterwards...
[it's an overhead shot of Jack and Laura lying side-by-side. They are both breathing hard, just trying to catch their breath]
Laura - My goodness.
Jack - .....Exactly.
Laura - .....I don't know what came over me.
Jack - .....Neither do I... I don't quite know what to say.
Laura - .....You don't have to say anything.
Jack - [looks over at Laura] Monica... I'm sorry. I had no intention for things to go this far. It's just that when you got that telegram from Daniel, you were just so... so devastated.
Laura - [looks over at Jack] You don't have to explain anything.
Jack - [looks away. they're both a little awkward] ...Excuse me.
[Jack walks across the room, opens the bathroom door and turns around to look at Laura (and this is where some object is covering the part of his body we're not allowed to see on t.v.), Laura sits up to look at him, Jack turns away and walks into the bathroom and shuts the door. Laura collapses back down on the bed]
Laura - Oh my God... What have I done?
---------------------------------
[Laura is out of bed now and putting on her robe. Then Jack walks out of the bathroom in a towel.
(Sometimes you just wish gravity would kick in every once in a while ;) ) Laura smiles at him, but Jack is still feeling awkward]
Jack - Well, I guess I'd better get dressed.
Laura - [her smile disappears] Yes.
Jack - [looks at Laura] Look, Monica, I hope you don't think uh... 'cause I didn't... I hope you don't feel that I used you.
Laura - [looks at him like he's crazy] No! [smiles] I don't feel that way at all!
Jack - [looks surprised and smiles] You don't?
Laura - No. What happened between us was so sudden and so unexpected but... [laughs] I don't think I can feel more wonderful.
Jack - [big smile] Really?
Laura - Yes. I didn't know that I was capable of such intense passion. But you made me feel so needed and... wanted.
Jack - You don't know how relieved I am. I certainly didn't plan for any of this to happen. [he walks past Laura] But it just makes me feel so good that you needed me. That you actually wanted me. [he turns to face Laura again] It was very special to me too.
Laura - [pauses] Was it?
Jack - Yes. I've never experienced anything like that with anyone. Not even my ex-wife!
[Laura gives an embarrassed smile]
Jack - I've never been that emotionally open with another human being ever. And I certainly didn't expect it.
Laura - I know. Me too. [pauses] Well, I don't know what it means, if it means anything at all. I don't know where it might lead. [smiles] But I do know that I will never regret what happened between us.
Jack - [moves closer to Laura] Neither will I.
[Laura's phone rings.]
Laura - Excuse me.
[Laura answers the phone and it's Jenn wishing her a Happy Thanksgiving. Laura tells Jenn about Daniel not showing up for their date. Jack is seen dressing up in the background]
-----------------------------------------
[Laura is standing with her back to Jack, just grinning. Jack is putting his belt on his pants (he's wearing a brown sweater and beige pants. Looks great, but I prefer the towel please : ) ]
Jack - You know what's really strange? Is that I come to this Meadows place to try to find a way to express my emotions, to be the kind of husband that my wife wants. And what ends up happening? She turns me down flat, and I wind up in bed with someone else. [Laura stares at him, expressionless] But what's even more ironic is that I was able to be all those things with you, Monica, someone I've known for just a very short time. [shrugs] I don't get it.
[Jack sits down on the bed. Laura plays with his hair then sits down too]
Laura - Maybe it's because you made assumptions about your ex-wife's expectations. And you were afraid of failing her. They're none of those worries with me.
Jack - [stares at her for awile] You're amazing, Monica... But I'm just talking about myself. I'm being completely selfish here.
Laura - [sighs and moves closer to him. She puts her hand on his leg] No one who has been as giving as you've been to me could be called selfish. I think you're wonderful. As a lover too.
Jack - [he really noticed that last comment] You're not just saying that?
Laura - [smiles] It's the truth.
[Jack looks really happy about that]
Laura - I had nothing to be thankful for today... until you.
Jack - I feel the same way. And I hate the thought of going back to my empty room.
Laura - Well... then don't go! [she puts her arms around Jack, and he smiles]
Laura - I don't expect anything from you. I know you love your ex-wife. I know you want her back. But for now, just for today ... this time... is ours. And I'm not ready to let go of it.
Jack - [looks at Laura, his blue eyes blazing] Neither do I.
[they start kissing]

ROUND 2
please feel free to fill in your own visual
---------------------------------------
[Jack and Laura are sitting up in bed still kissing. Then Laura lies against Jack and he puts his arms around her]
Laura - It's amazing, isn't it? I mean, this evening was a complete disaster for both of us and now... Jack - It is amazing.
Laura - Still no regrets.
Jack - Well, I regret that I've never felt this level of freedom... and desire...
Laura - [thinks about that, then sits up] You know, I don't think it was just desire. I think it was desire born out of need. A need for closeness, for trust, intimacy without implication. Mutual need that lead to mutual comfort. That's what we were both missing.
Jack - [stroking her hair, smiles] So have you always been so perceptive and analytical?
Larua - [turns and looks at him] Do you think that I should analyze my motives less?
Jack - No! No, I think you're absolutely right as to how and why this happened. [Laura leans back against him] I consider myself lucky that that happened. [Laura turns and kisses him on the cheek, then lays her head on his chest. Jack continues to stroke her hair.]
----------------------------
The next few scenes involve Jenn visiting her mom in the room. Jenn doesn't see Jack because he's in the bathroom taking a shower (which, sadly enough, we don't get to see). Jenn finds out that Laura has just slept with "Clark". She kind of freaks out. Laura asks Jenn to leave before he gets out of the bathroom and Jenn quickly agrees and starts walking out the door.
------------------------------
[Jack walks out of the bathroom (in his towel again!) and sees someone else leaving the room]
Jack - [looks uncomfortable] Who was that?
Laura - [nervously smiles] My daughter. [Jack looks at the bed.] I'll admit that the timing was a bit off... but you know, she was worried about me when she heard about Daniel rejecting me and she just wanted to make sure I was all right.
Jack - Yeah, that's very thoughtful of her. [he's still distracted]
Laura - Oh yeah, she's one of the sweetest, most wonderful people in the world.
Jack - Yeah, she seems very nice. [he says this quickly. Then he walks towards the bed and stares at it] Oh boy, did she figure out that we uh........
Laura - [sighs] Yes.
Jack - [pauses] How'd she react?
Laura - Well, I would've liked to have broken it to her a bit more gently. But, she seemed to handle it exceedingly well, considering the circumstances.
Jack - That's good. [he stares at Laura] So how about you. Is everything okay?
Laura - [hugging Jack] I am still very glad that it happened.
Jack - [they pull away from the hug, and Jack puts his hands on her shoulders] Hey, I want you to know something. You are a beautiful and brilliant woman. Whom I admire and respect. I'm very grateful that we met.
Laura - So am I. [she gives him a quick kiss on the lips.] Um, but I would like to ask a favor of you.
Jack - Anything for you.
Laura - I'd like you to meet my daughter.
[Jack gives a tiny smile but looks uncomfortable with the idea]
--------------------------------------
Jack - You want me to meet your daughter here, right now?
Laura - Yes, I think it might put her mind to rest.
Jack - But I thought you said that she was already handling it pretty well.
Laura - Well, that's true but think about it from her perspective. I mean, she came rushing over here because she thought she was gonna find her mother an emotional wreck because the man she had been seeing had just dropped her!
Jack - ...and then she discovers her mother's been sleeping with the man who's almost a perfect stranger... yes, that could be a little disconcerting.
Laura - Yeah. So I thought that if she could meet you and see what a nice guy you are...
Jack - Nice guy?
Laura - Yes! Nice guy who's intelligent and charming and considerate and gentle.
Jack - [thinks about it] Monica, I'm flattered that you want me to meet your daughter. But all this just happened so suddently. Don't you think we should take just a little bit of time to sort things out before you introduce me to your family?
Laura - [smiles to herself] It's not as though we're going to announce our engagement.
Jack - Yes, I know that but... still, I just don't think it's a good idea. [he walks past her shaking his head.]
Laura - All right. Well, I'm going to go and talk with her. [pauses] It would really, really make me very happy if you just stop by and said hi.
Jack - [smiles] So this is really important to you, right?
Laura - Yes, it is.
Jack - [thinks] ...okay. I'll think about it. Fair enough?
Laura - Fair enough... One thing though. I think you should get dressed first. [and she walks past him with a smile on her face, and goes into the bathroom. Jack still looks a bit uncomfortable about meeting Monica's daughter]
-----------------------------------
Meanwhile...
[Jennifer walks back into the waiting room where Peter is waiting for her]
Peter - Jenn, is your mom okay?
Jenn - Uh, yeah. Yeah, I think she is.
Peter - You look like you've seen a ghost, or as if something terrible happened.
Jenn - Oh, something happened. I'm not sure whether or not to call it terrible.
Peter - What is it?
Jenn - When I went in the room to see my mother, she wasn't alone. She was with a man.
Peter - Well, good for her! I think that's the best thing she could do. Find someone she's comfortable enough to talk about Daniel with.
Jenn - I'm not sure how much they talked.
Peter - What do you mean?
Jenn - Peter, when I tell you that my mother was with a man, I mean she was with a man.
Peter - [with a big look of realization] Ohhhhhhh...... Ew, you walked in on them?!
Jenn - No!! I would've died if I walked in on them. He was in the bathroom!
Peter - I see.... I still think it's great...................................... Who's the guy?
Jenn - Clark!
Peter - The guy she met here?
Jenn - Yes!
Peter - Wooowww.
Jenn - That's what I said. I can't believe I am talking about my mother having sex!

The end....
