Episode Summary, September 19, 1997 Transcribed by Sandra

Show opens with Jennifer standing in the Warden's office near the front door.  She looks very happy that she just got that Guard's job she applied for, especially considering the fact that the Warden asked Abe's "secretary" (Alice) for the reference -- very believable ;-)  The Warden has returned to the office again and speaks to Jennifer near the door....

Warden -- Miss Williams, it's a pleasure having you on staff.  Although you'll start as a relief guard.  I'm sure you'll work your way up to Full Time in no time.  Can you start immediately?

Jennifer -- The sooner, the better.

Warden -- Abe Carver's executive assistant says you're a hard worker, have a lot of initiative, think fast on your feet.  We need people like that.

Jennifer -- Well, I'll try not to disappoint Commander Carver's executive assistant.

Warden -- The Guard's locker room is right up the hall to your left.  You can pick up your uniform, change your clothes, and I'll get someone to give you a tour of the prison.  Okay?

Jennifer -- Thank you.

[Warden leaves the office.  The expression on Jennifer's face becomes more serious and she seems kind of worried.  She flashes back to her argument with Jack in prison, when he told her he didn't want to work with her on that investigative story.]

Jennifer [after the flashback] -- I'm sorry, Jack.  But this is something that I have to do.

[scene ends]

[Alice is in her kitchen at home when the phone rings...]

Alice -- Hello?

Jack [calling from the prison rec. room] -- Hey, Mrs. Horton.  This is Jack.  Have you heard from Jennifer?

Alice -- Oh, yes.  I talked to her earlier today.  Why?

Jack -- Listen, I told her I was doing this investigation on the prison system.  So she decided she wanted to help.  But I don't want her involved.  If she mentions it, can you just convince her to give up on the idea.

Alice -- Jack, don't worry about Jennifer.  She's always been able to take care of herself.

[Back at the Warden's office, Jennifer walks in with her Guard's uniform on and brown wig.  She takes off her dark sunglasses and looks quite nervous.  She takes out a compact and puts powder on her face.]

Jennifer -- I can't let Jack see me.  Or he's going to blow my cover.  I have to figure out a way to break this to him in private.

[Meanwhile, TC is outside the Warden's office, talking on his cellphone to Travis]

TC -- Travis, it's TC.  Any problems with Deveraux's ex-wife?

Travis -- No, I convinced her to stay away from the prison.  And to forget about looking for Jack's former cellmate.

TC -- She'll be real surprised to learn you're the man she's looking for.

Travis -- Yeah, well, she's never gonna know that, now is she?  You just keep an eye on Jack.  And just let me know if Jennifer comes to visit him.

TC -- Will do.

[TC hangs up his cellphone.  The Warden arrives in the hallway and calls out to TC]

Warden -- Ah, TC.  Glad you're here.  I just hired a new relief guard.  Show her around?

TC -- Sure will.  Where is she?

[Jennifer walks out of the Warden's office, into the hallway, and has a smile on her face]

Warden -- Oh, here she is.  Hope Williams, TC Grant.

[Jennifer and TC greet each other by shaking hands.  TC looks at Jennifer with interest.]

Warden -- TC will show you the ropes.  Good luck.

[The Warden leaves them in the hallway.  TC looks over Jennifer from head to toe and smiles at her weirdly.  Jennifer looks back at him and seems like she's uncomfortable being around him.  Scene ends.]

[TC opens the door to the prisoner's rec. room.]

TC -- This is the rec. room.  Inmate's hang here when they're not working or in lock-up.

[Jennifer follows TC to another corner of the rec. room.  Jack is sitting by himself at one of the benches with an open book in front of him.  Instead of reading his book, he's staring at a picture of a smiling Jennifer.  Jack looks really sad and lonely as he stares at the picture.]

TC -- Probably won't be assigned to this floor.  It's for senior guards.

Jennifer -- Where will I be assigned?

[TC doesn't answer Jennifer but just gives her a weird stare which makes Jennifer very uncomfortable.]

Jennifer -- Why are you staring at me?

TC -- You're so beautiful.  I just can't imagine why anyone so good-looking would want a job like this.

Jennifer [nervous laugh] -- Well, I'm just looking for a challenge.

TC -- Well, you'll get it here.  It's full of characters.  [TC turns his head to look at Jack sitting alone at the bench]  See that guy over there.  Rich kid.  Father's a U.S. Senator.  He's in for life.  For murder.  Come on, I'll introduce you.  Deveraux!  Someone wants to meet you!

[TC walks towards Jack.  Jennifer looks really nervous because she obviously doesn't want Jack to discover her just yet.  Scene ends.]

[TC is standing next to Jack who gets up from his bench.]

Jack -- What do you want?

TC -- I want you to meet the new relief guard over there.

[Jack looks "there" and doesn't notice anyone.  He looks at TC, wondering who TC was referring to.  TC looks towards the doorway and doesn't see "Williams"]

TC -- Where'd she go?

Jack -- She?

TC -- Yeah, she was right there.

Jack -- Not anymore.  Is that all?

[TC nods his head to agree and Jack walks away.  TC walks back to the door and Jennifer reappears.]

TC -- Where'd you go?

Jennifer -- Ah.... saw some suspicious activity in the Hallway.  Thought I'd check it out.  So where's that inmate you wanted me to meet.

TC -- He's left.  Now come on, I'll show you the cellblock.

[TC walks out the door.  Jennifer follows him and glances back at the rec. room to make sure Jack isn't there.  Scene ends.]

[Jack is now back in his prison cell, sleeping in his bunk bed.  The sound of footsteps can be heard and a person wearing black guard shoes is standing at the foot of Jack's bed.  Jack opens his eyes and notices the black prison shoes but doesn't say anything.  He begins to get up from the bed, assuming it's a prison guard bugging him again.  His eyes are still half-closed since he just woke up.  As he gets up, Jennifer leans over towards him and grabs him by the back of the neck, pushing his face closer to hers to give him a kiss on his lips.  Jack, not knowing who this person is, forcefully pushes her away from him.  When he finally gets a chance to see her face, they both smile at each other lovingly and begin to share a passionate kiss.  Obviously it hasn't yet dawned on Jack that Jennifer is right there in his prison cell wearing a guard's uniform, after he told her he didn't want her to work with him.  Scene ends.  End of episode.]
