Episode Summary   transcribed by Mystic

This phone conversation takes place in November 1994.  It's the first time Jennifer hears from Jack after disappearing for a year.  Jack is at the Meadows and he asked his lawyer, Ned, to go over to Jennifer's house so he could arrange a meeting for them.  Jack is in the garden alone and realizes that he didn't even tell Ned to tell Jennifer that he loved her.  He worries about that, then decides that Ned isn't at Jennifer's house yet so he'll call Ned and tell him what to say. But unfortunately for Jack, Ned is at Jennifer's.....

------------------------------

Jenn - (Ned's at the door) Come on in! It's so nice to see you again.

Ned - Well, it's been a long time, hasn't it?

Jenn - Yes, it really has. What are you doing here?

Ned - Jack asked me to come.

Jenn - (takes her off-guard) Jack?!

Ned - He asked me to come with a proposition.

[Jenn looks shocked]

-----------------------------------------------

Ned - I was totally surprised when he called me, Jennifer. But I spoke with him, several times in fact. And he wants me to --

[Ned's cellular phone rings]

Ned - Oh, I'm sorry Jennifer. (answers it) Hello?

Jack - (on phone) Ned! It's Jack. Look, I have a few more things that I need you to tell Jennifer.

Ned - Well, here! Tell her yourself. (holds the phone to Jenn) It's Jack.

[Now Jenn really looks shocked]

---------------------------------------

[Jack is freaking out]

Jack - No!! Ned! I don't want to talk to her on the phone. That's why I sent you over there to set up this meeting. Ned! Ned!! (sorry Jack, Ned can't hear you)

Jenn - (covers the mouthpiece of the phone with her hand) What does he want?

Ned - Well, let him tell you himself!

Jenn - Can you just tell me please? Why is Jack calling me?

Ned - Talk to him. He'll tell you!

Jack - Ned, are you there?!

Jenn - (hesitates, then grabs the phone) Hello Jack. (she says this very meanly)

[Jack is taken aback that Jenn is on the other end now. He's speechless]

Jenn - (getting impatient) Jack, are you there?

Jack - (finally) Hi Jennifer. It's so good to hear your voice.

Jenn - (rolls her eyes) Your lawyer said that you wanted somthing. What is it?

Jack - Oh, I just wanted to know how you and Abby are doing.

Jenn - Oh! After a year?!

Jack - Yeah, I know it's been a long time but you two have never been out of my thoughts.

Jenn - (very sarcastically) Really. That's interesting. Then why didn't you call your daugther on her birthday?

Jack - (looks extremely guilty) Uh...... look, I didn't want to upset you.

Jenn - Oh! Of course it's my fault that my daughter has not heard from her father in a year.

Jack - No, no. Jenn, I didn't mean it that way. Look, we can't talk on the phone together. That's why I sent Ned over there to arrange a meeting so we could meet, talk face-to-face. Is he still there?

Jenn - Yes, he is here. But you know what? I'm really not interested in a meeting, okay?

Jack - No, no Jenn. You don't have to make up your mind right now. Ned will give you my phone number.

Jenn - Look, I don't want you number! And I don't want to see you! There is nothing that I have to say to you.

Ned - (writes Jack's # down) This is Jack's number. And this is my office number.

Jenn - Ned, I don't want --

Ned - Look, I gotta be in court. I'll pick up my phone tomorrow.

Jenn - Ned, will you please wait?! Ned!

Jack - Jennifer!

Jenn - Jack, listen to me!

Jack - No, Jennifer! If you would just think about it, all right?! I'm right here. I'm waiting for your call. I'm close by. I'm only half an hour away!

Jenn - (shocked) You are what?........ You're telling me that you are half an hour from Salem and you cannot even come here to see your daughter?

Jack - (looks helpless) Ohhh, Jenn....... there are reasons.....

Jenn - (raising her voice) Oh, of course there's reasons Jack!! There's always an excuse with you! You haven't changed one single bit I see!!

Jack - Jenn, I know that I have messed up. But I have changed. You gotta believe me. This year apart....... it's actually been good!

Jenn - (now she's really ticked off) Good? You listen to me, HOW DARE YOU SAY THAT THIS PAST YEAR HAS BEEN GOOD!!! You have no idea what I have been through!! You have no idea what your little girl has been through!!

Jack - (tears are in his eyes, he says quietly) Jennifer, please..... If we could talk, I know we can straighten this out. Please, just give me another chance.

[Jenn is crying now and doesn't say anything. Then she hangs up on Jack]
