Jack has made his way back to the cafe. Peter and Jennifer have come and gone. Jack is glad to hear that Peter has gotten Jennifer back to Salem, since finding her in the cave with Jack, but Jack is now more desperate than ever to get back to Salem. The owner tells him that only the truckers and state troopers will be on the roads. Jack decides to hitchhike his way back home.
Meanwhile, Peter and Jennifer have arrived at the hospital. Mike looks after her while Peter tells Maggie, Laura and Alice that Jack is responsible for the car accident and Jennifer's injuries. The injuries are minor, however, and Jennifer is going to make a speedy recovery.
Maggie and Laura have made their way to Salem Place to take their minds off Jennifer for a while. Laura goes off on her own for a moment and Jack rushes up to Maggie. He presses her for details on Jennifer. He has called the hospital but they did not give him any details. Maggie complies and comments on Jack's health and appearance. (she says, "You look awful." LOL) He tells her that he has to see Jennifer and heads to the hospital before Laura spots him.
Jennifer has woken up, back at the hospital and she is a little confused. She doesn't know how she got to the hospital.
Jennifer -- What about Jack? Where's Jack? Has anyone heard from him? Where is he?
A nurse enters and says that Jack has called the hospital asking about Jennifer. Everyone, except Peter, is relieved. Jennifer is left alone to rest.
Jack enters right after Peter exits. He still looks like something the cat dragged in. His left hand is bandaged.
Jack -- Jennifer.
Jennifer -- Jack. Hi.
Jack -- Oh thank God. (he rushes to her bedside) How are you feeling?
Jennifer -- I'm better. I'm better now.
Jack -- How's your fever? (touches her forehead) God, you are still warm. What are they giving you here?
Jennifer -- Jack, I'm fine. They are taking good care of me.
Jack -- Jennifer, that's all I could think about when I was trying to make it back to Salem. That and . . . that it's my fault in the first place that you got sick. Jennifer, it's all my fault, okay. I am so sorry for getting us lost and then stranded. But you don't remember. You don't remember anything, so . . . look, why should you remember, right? I mean, you are safe here, thanks to Peter. Look, Jennifer I'm not, I'm not surprised if you are angry, okay. And it's not wrong for you to blame me because I blame myself. Well, okay, I just came by to see if you were doing okay, so . . . I guess . . . I guess you are doing fine. I, you need some rest so I'll just leave you alone, okay.
He gets up and heads for the door.
Jennifer -- Jack, let me see your hand.
Jack -- (stops) Jennifer, it's okay. It's nothing really.
Jennifer -- Did you have someone look at it? I mean you could have frostbite. That's really serious.
Jack -- No, no. (he heads back to her side) No, it's nothing. I can take care of it, okay. Don't worry about me.
Jennifer -- I do worry. (she takes his hand and starts to peel away the bandage to get a closer look) I researched this on the talk show once and it can be really serious if you don't take care of it.
Jack -- (pulls his hand away) Look, I'm sorry, okay, but when you touch me and you act like you care about me, it just reminds me of what things used to be like when we were together and . . . reminds me a little bit of what it was like in that cave last night. But, like I said before, you don't remember that, so I better be going, okay.
He gets up and heads for the door once again.
Jennifer -- Yes, I do, Jack.
Jack -- (stops again and turns to face her) You do?
Jennifer -- I remember.
Jack -- What did you say Jennifer?
Jennifer -- I said, I remember. I mean, I remember some things. I remember . . . bits and pieces of what happened but it's enough for me to feel the rest of what happened.
Jack -- (moves back to her bedside) Look, Jennifer, I'm sorry. I don't want you to think that I tried to take advantage of you.
Jennifer -- Jack, if you weren't there for me, I'd be lying in some ditch somewhere. I'd be dead. Abby would have lost her mother.
Jack -- No, don't even say that.
Jennifer -- Yes, I have to say that. I'm sorry I feel . . . I don't know I just feel sleepy but I have to tell you. I have said some really terrible things to you and I'm really sorry. And maybe, maybe it's time I said something really nice to you for a change, cause you know when I was in that car and you left me to go get help, I didn't think that you were gonna come back. And you did come back. And when I was in that cave I was so scared, and you gave me hope and you gave me strength. And I'm telling you that was my lifeline. And I just want to thank you for that. I wanna, I want to thank you for Abby and I want to thank you for me. And I will be grateful to you forever.
Jack moves in and sits on the side of her bed and Jennifer rests her head in his chest, while he caresses her.
Jennifer -- (moves out of the embrace) Whew, I'm starting to feel really tired.
Jack -- That's good. It means they gave you something to help you rest. You know, I'm grateful that you are feeling better. I'm even more grateful that you remember what happened last night. (he looks into her eyes) Jennifer, I think you know why I came back. I really have changed. I'm not the Jack you used to know. And I swear that I will never let you down again. I will never stop loving you.
Jennifer's eyes begin to get heavy and she peacefully collapses into Jack's waiting arms. Just then, Peter quietly opens the door with a bouquet of flowers and sees Jennifer asleep in the arms of the man who loves her.
