Before this episode took place, Peter had bought Abby a little toy.
The toy accidentally cut Abby and Jack and Jennifer had to rush her to
the hospital. They stayed the night there with Abby and brought her
home the next morning.
[Jack and Jennifer walk into their house. Jack is carrying a sleeping
Abby]
Jenn - Is she still asleep?
Jack - (quietly) Yeah.
Jenn - God, I was so frightened for her.
Jack - I know. But she's gonna be fine. (stares at Abby
then looks at Jenn) Isn't she beautiful?
Jenn - (smiles) Yeah. She is so lucky to have you for a father.
Jack - You didn't always feel that way.
Jenn - I do know how much you love her.
Jack - (looks touched that Jenn feels that way. Looks at Abby
again) I'll take her up to bed.
Jenn - Okay. (she kisses Abby, then Jack brings her upstairs)
[The doorbell rings and Jennifer answers the door. Peter is there
with flowers. He apologizes
and says that he's the cause for Abby getting hurt]

Peter continues to apologize for getting Abby hurt by bringing her that
toy. Jenn says it's okay.
Accidents happen. Jennifer and Peter start kissing as Jack comes
downstairs just in time to see
them.

Peter - Okay, from now on I promise no more gifts for Abby until you
check them out.
Jenn - (laughs) Okay.
Jack - And me! (walks into the living room, very angry)
If I could, I wouldn't let you anywhere
near my daugther!
Jenn - Jack!
Jack - What?!
[Abby is heard crying for her mommy]
Jenn - I'll be right back. (she runs upstairs)
Peter - Don't even start with me, Jack. Jennifer wants me to be
a part of Abby's life.
Jack - See, I don't know why. See, we're lucky that Abby just
cut her mouth on that porcelain,
huh? What if she swallowed it?
Peter - Look, I made a mistake and I'm sorry. But at least I didn't
run away from it. (Jack begins
to look uncomfortable) Oh, that's right. Jennifer told
me how you allowed toxic dumping in the
river which is probably what caused Abby's aplastic anemia which almost
killed her. And what did
you do? Stay here with your family and help them through it?
No, no, no. You ran away.
Jack - Well, I came back.
Peter - (laughs) Yeah, you came back. And that was your
second mistake because Jennifer
loves me and we're gonna get married.
Jack - Not if there's anything I can do about it.
Peter - There is nothing you can do about it, Jack. So stay out
of our way. Or you could wind up
getting hurt.
Jack - (pauses, very angry) I think I better go. Before
I do something I regret.
[Jack slowly turns around and walks out the door, slamming it behind
him]

[Jack is at Salem Place, where there is a rummage sale. He is
looking at some stuff when Laura
walks up behind him]
Laura - Jack!
Jack - (turns around) Laura.
Laura - How's Abby?
Jack - She's home. She's fine.
Laura - That's wonderful.
Jack - Yeah, I think she's gonna recover from this much faster than
the rest of us.
Laura - What's wrong?
Jack - The usual, you know. Dashed hopes. Broken dreams.
Laura - What happened?
Jack - Well, Jennifer and I -- we spent the night at the hospital with
Abigail and for once we didn't
fight or argue or anything. We were both just totally focused
on our little girl.
Laura - Well, of course. You both must've been so worried.
Jack - Well, of course we were worried. I was scared to death
that something could happen to
Abigail like that. But the three of us together, it just provided
this strange opportunity for Jennifer
and I to put aside our differences and just come together for Abigail's
sake. We were so intent
on Abby that it couldn't help but remind us of some of the love that
we shared.
Laura - That must have made you very hapy.
Jack - Yes. And I even allowed myself to hope that Jennifer and
I had a chance of getting back
together.
Laura - What. You don't think that any longer?
Jack - No, I don't. Because as soon as we got home, Peter showed
up and Jennifer jumped
straight back into his arms again. Even though he was the one
that was responsible for Abby
getting hurt in the first place.
Laura - So Jack, does this mean that you finally believe that Jennifer's
in love with Peter?
Jack - Well, from what I see, I don't think I have a choice.
Laura - Jack, I'm sorry. I don't like saying this but I think
you'll be a lot better off when you can
accept it and just... give it up!
Jack - I may give up trying to get Jennifer back but I am not going
to give up trying to get Peter
away from Jennifer and Abigail.
Laura - So what do you intend to do?
Jack - I don't know. Jennifer's show is getting pre-empted by
her special on the first street soup
kitchen this week. So I've got a few days off. Maybe I'll
just get away alone somplace for
awhile. Just try to think this through.
Laura - I think that sounds like a good idea. Good luck.
Jack - (smiles at her) Thanks. Take care.
Laura - You too. (Jack leaves. Then she says to herself)
Could it be true? Could Jennifer have
finally pushed Jack out of her life for good?
[Jack is walking around and runs into Shawn]
Shawn - Hey Jack! What's the hurry?
Jack - Shawn!
Shawn - We got lots of great stuff here. Why don't you buy yourself
a little something, huh?
Jack - Uh, I don't know, Shawn...
Shawn - It's for charity.
Jack - Well... a get well present for Abigail.
Shawn - Oh, what's the matter? Is the little darling sick?
Jack - She had a little accident but she's gonna be fine.
Shawn - Oh, well, that's good, that's good. I'm glad to hear that.
Well, listen. Do you see
anything you like?
Jack - (looks around) Let's see here. How about this box?
(picks up the box, which is the same
box that proved that Gina was Hope) How much?
Shawn - It's a beauty, isn't it?
Jack - Yeah.
Shawn - I'll tell you what. Fiv-- uh, ten dollars.
Jack - (smiles) Five dollars.
Shawn - Eight?
Jack - You got a deal. (they laugh)
Shawn - It's a bargain at half the price.
Jack - Yeah, I'm sure it is. (Shawn puts the box in a bag for
Jack)

[Still at Salem Place, Jack and Gina (Hope) literally run into each
other)
Gina - Oh, Jack! I'm sorry.
Jack - (smiles) Sorry.
Gina - I'm sorry. I keep bumping into you in the strangest places.
Jack - Yeah. Hey, I wanted to tell you. I was glad that
I got a chance to know you better last
night.
Gina - Yeah, so am I. You know, I think talking to you really
helped.
Jack - Yeah. So are there any changes in your situation?
Gina - No, still don't have any clue to who I am.
Jack - Well, like I said, I still think you're Hope.
Gina - That's a nice thought Jack. But I need proof.
Jack - Well, I wish there was something I could do.
Gina - Yeah, I wish there was something you could do too. (looks
at the bag he's carrying)
What do you got there? Did you buy something at the rummage sale?
Jack - Yeah, I bought a gift for Abigail. I hope she's gonna like
it.
Gina - I bet she's gonna love it!
Jack - Yeah.
Gina - Hey, any change in your situation?
Jack - No. There's no chance that Jennifer and I are gonna get
back together again.
Gina - Oh, Jack. I'm so sorry!
Jack - No, it's about time that I just gave up on that dream.
Just start getting used to being the
typical divorced dad buying presents for his little girl.
Gina - I know how hard it is giving up on your dreams. So what
are you gonna do?
Jack - I don't know.
[Laura shows up and eavesdrops in on the conversation]
Jack - I've got a few days off and I think I might just take off and
try to figure out what my future is
and how to face it.
Gina - Good luck to you.
Jack - Thanks. You too.
Gina - Thanks.
Jack - (smiles) Bye. (he leaves)
Laura - (to herself) Do I really have a chance with Jack?
And if I do, what will happen to my
relationship with Jennifer?

Meanwhile, Jennifer is telling Peter how she wants to get away for awhile.
Peter says it's a good
idea and suggests places where he and Jennifer can go. Jennifer
stops him and tells him that
she wants to go with Abby alone. Peter is a little taken back
by that but then says he
understands.

Jack is inside the Horton cabin now. He goes outside to fix some
stuff when he sees Jennifer
and Abby.
Jack - Jennifer.....
Jennifer is shocked when she sees that Jack is there.
