This episode took place in the middle of the night in early October 1995. Jennifer found Jack in Aremid and made him promise to never return or have any connection to the town if he wants to remain in her and Abby's life. Jack has agreed, but Sarah showed up on their doorstep, back in Salem. Peter is also staying at the house as he is still recovering from his fall from the Penthouse Grill balcony. Jack has hidden her in his room for the evening and has to decide what to do with her in the morning.

Jack is sleeping on the floor as he has given his bed to Sarah. He is deep in sleep. Actually he begins to dream . . . Jennifer stands over his bed in a revealing nightgown. Jack's eyes are open as her hears her faint movement. He turns over to face her and as he gets up, his medal shines in the moonlight across his bare chest. He stands next to Jennifer. She takes his hand.
Jack -- (pleasantly surprised) Jennifer.
Jennifer -- Listen to me, I couldn't sleep. I have a lot on my mind about the past and the future. And I think I've finally realized why I am so confused.
Jack -- (himself confused) Confused?
Jennifer -- How can I marry Peter when I am in love with someone else?
Jack -- What, what what are you saying . . . here?
Jennifer -- (she is confident as she leans in and could literally touch her nose to his) I am saying that I love the man that I married the first time . . you, Jack. I will always love you.
She leans in and steals a kiss. Well actually, she doesn't have to steal anything. She wraps her arms around his neck as they kiss with a never-ending passion.
Jack begins to wake up from his dream as he is tapped from behind. He does not open his eyes. It is Sarah. Without looking he grabs her and pulls her in for a kiss. He eventually opens his eyes and is shocked to see Sarah. He backs away and puts on the shirt he was wearing the day before. He is still wearing the pants that went with the shirt.
Jack -- Sarah. I'm sorry. I was dreaming about Jennifer. I thought that you were Jennifer.
Sarah -- That's okay Jack. You don't have to explain. I'm sorry too. I was hungry and I wanted to go downstairs to get a snack but I wanted to check with you first.
Jack -- No don't go downstairs. It's too risky. Wait til tomorrow morning. We'll have a big breakfast tomorrow morning. Just go down there (points to the bed) and get some sleep.
Jack apologizes to Sarah for kissing her. She brushes it off but you can tell it affected her. Sarah brings up the secrets in Aremid but Jack won't hear any of it. He doesn't want to risk losing Jennifer.
In the meantime, Jennifer can't sleep and gets up to find Peter at her door. He has been staying in the guest room for Abby's sake. Jennifer explains that she couldn't sleep and wanted to get something to read. Peter has other ideas to keep her occupied but his condition prevents him from following through. Suddenly Abby calls out for her mother. She has lost her dolly under the bed and can't sleep. Peter offers to get her tucked in.
Sarah narrowly avoids them in the hallway. She is on her way downstairs to get some food. Jack hears some commotion in the hallway and looks up to an empty bed. He jumps up and grabs a robe (he has taken off the shirt once again). He runs out into the hall and nearly collides with Jen.
Jack -- Jennifer, hey what are you doing up?
Jennifer -- I was just about to ask you the same thing.
Jack -- (thinking on his feet) Uhh . . . couldn't sleep.
Jennifer -- Yeah, I couldn't either. I'm going to go downstairs and get something to eat.
Jack -- (desperate to get to Sarah before she does) Wait! I'll go with you.
Jennifer -- Okay.
They head down the stairs into the dark living room. Jennifer goes to turn on a light.
Jack -- (frantic) Jen!
Jennifer -- What?
Jack -- Before you turn on the light, there's something I wanted to say.
Jennifer -- (she wraps a blanket around herself) You know, Jack, it's very late.
Jack -- I know. This won't take much time at all. You know the promise that I made to you in Aremid?
Jennifer -- Yeah. But why are you bringing it up now? You're not thinking about going back on that promise, are you Jack?
Jack -- No, no no no, of course not. I just wanted to remind you that I would never ever do anything deliberate to go back on that promise.
Jennifer -- Okay, I believe you. Can I turn on the light now.
Jack -- Yeah turn it on.
Jennifer -- (turns on the light and picking up a book) You know what? I'm feeling kind of hungry. I think I'm going to go get a snack.
Jack -- No I'll go fix the snacks.
Jennifer -- I'll go get the snacks. I don't mind.
Jack -- No no no. Just let me . . . let me. (sees Sarah in the corner) LEH ME (grabs his leg).
Jennifer -- What ha . . what is wrong with you?
Jack -- Oh I got a cramp in my leg. Tell you what, just go fix the snacks, I'll have whatever you are having.
Jennifer -- (confused) Okay. (she walks into the kitchen)
Jack makes his way to the couch and when Jen is out of sight he confronts Sarah.
Jack -- (whispering) I thought I told you not to come down here.
Sarah -- I'm hungry.
Jack -- Fine next time I'll get the food. Do you understand?
Sarah -- Well why didn't you think of that in the first place?
Jack -- Would you just get upstairs right now and be quiet about it. Go go go go go.
Jack seats himself on the couch and Jennifer comes out of the kitchen with a piece of chocolate cake and a small carton of ice cream.
Jennifer -- Okay Jack. I brought you a piece of cake. There is only chocolate ice cream and I know you don't really like chocolate chip ice cream.
Jack -- Yeah thanks. Thank you. This is perfect.
Jennifer -- Hmm. This is where the guilt sets in. I'll have to run an extra mile tomorrow (she laughs and then he laughs).
Jack -- Yeah. You know I remember another time that you were eating chocolate chip ice cream in the middle of the night.
Jennifer -- Oh yeah.
Jack -- (as he picks at the cake) Yeah. It was right after Abby was born, well not right Abby was born maybe two weeks or so. We wanted to celebrate (he half laughs) but it was too early so I went for a brisk six mile run and you went into the the kitchen for some chocolate chip ice cream. (pauses) Well I think I'm just going to take this upstairs. I hope you can get back to sleep, alright.
Jennifer -- Jack, you know what. You don't have to go upstairs. This is half your house. You can stay here on the couch. Why don't you just stay and finish your cake.
Jack is really surprised at what Jennifer has just said. But he is not going to argue with that. They have been making small talk during the commercial and their conversation continues . . .
Jennifer -- I know what you are saying. But there has to be a thousand cookbooks on the market.
Jack -- (with his fork, Jack digs in to Jen's ice cream and slaps it down next to his half eaten cake) Well if these people are so interested in the recipes then they are going to buy the book.
Jennifer -- You know, you're right because everytime we have a chef on the show we get so many letters.
Jack -- We should call Victor.
Jennifer -- I'm going to. I'm going to call him first thing tomorrow.
Jack -- (chows down on the ice cream) Great!
Jennifer -- I am. (Jack is smiling) What?
Jack -- Nothing. It's just you and me sitting together like this . . . the talking and . . . laughing . . . it's just like old times.
Jennifer -- (stops eating) You know Jack, I want it to be like this. I mean we may be divorced but I want us to be friends. I mean it's good. I think it will be good for Abby. I think that it will be really good for us. (Jack nods) So now if you keep your promise about Aremid. If you stay out of there and if you leave that poor girl Sarah alone then I don't see any reason why we can't be friends.
Jack -- Jen, I promise to you that I am doing everything that I can to avoid any contact at all with Aremid. I swear that to you.
Jennifer -- Well then, there is no reason that we can't be friends.
Peter -- (as he walks down the stairs) I am interrupting something?
Jen shakes her head. Jack raises his eyebrows with disappointment. Jen explains that they both couldn't sleep and got to talking about the show over a snack. She gets up and hugs Peter. Jack makes himself more comfortable on the couch. Peter wants to take Jen back upstairs.
Peter -- I'm sure Jack understands. After all, he knows how it is to be in love, engaged, about to be married. Well maybe you don't.
Jack is hurt. He doesn't want to give Peter the satisfaction, but once Jennifer and Peter head upstairs Jack stokes his hand through his hair in one slow movement. His is disappointed that the woman he loves has gone back to their old bedroom with another man.
