Episode Summary | transcribed by Mystic |
This episode took place in early February 1995. This is the earliest
episode I have following the
cave episode. From what I remember, after Peter found Jack and Jenn
in the cave, he took Jenn to the hospital. Jenn was still delirious and
asked Jack to come into her hospital room, and only Jack. Jack, very
concerned, sat down on her bed where she was laying down and held her while
she slept. Peter, not knowing she was still delirious, was very upset about
this and left the hospital. Jack was happy thinking that Jenn had decided
to come back to him. But she called Jack "Peter", and Jack understood that
Jennifer didn't really know what was going on. He
was really hurt by that too. Well, this is the next day and
Jack and Alice are at Salem Place sitting at a table outside Johnny Angels.
Jack is wearing a suit with a black long overcoat.
Alice - But Jack, Jennifer definitely responded to you. She was holding
your hand! And I'd say that
was a pretty good sign.
Jack - (sighs) Mrs. Horton, after you left... she called me Peter. She
thought that she was holding
his hand.
Alice - (disappointed) Oh.
Jack - I'm having a little bit of a problem getting around that right
now. (pauses) Look, I don't know
which man she really loves -- me or Peter Blake. It's tearing me apart.
I'm starting to have some
doubts.
Alice - Well, only one person can erase those doubts. And that's Jennifer.
You have to go and talk
to her and find out which man she's really in love with.
--------------------------------
Alice - Well, Jennifer has to make a choice. Jack, you can't go on this way.
Jack - Mrs. Horton, I guess I haven't pushed her because my whole future
is riding on it. If she
were to choose Peter --
Alice - (interrupts) She'd be making a very big mistake!
Jack - .....Mrs Horton, when we were in that cave, I had my hopes riding
so high. I had her back!
It was all back! That magic!
Alice - (smiles) Yeah!
Jack - And that's why it was such a blow to me when she called me Peter.
Alice - And when she was delirious, she clung on to you. Whenever Jennifer's
in trouble, she wants
the people around her who are closest to her. I remember when she was
a little girl. When she was
sick, she didn't want just any toy. She wanted her beloved teddy bear.
And she held on to the bear
for dear life. Just the way she held on to you! When you were lost
in that blizzard, you're the man
she wants.
Jack - (pauses) But I can't push her, Mrs. Horton. If she were to choose
Peter over me..... I just
can't take that risk.
[They began to walk elsewhere and Alice links her arm in Jack's]
[Peter and Mickey are at Salem Place too, talking about business. Peter sees Jack]
Peter - Jack!
Jack - (turns to Alice) Just a minute. (he walks up to Peter) What do you want?
Peter - (angry) I want you to be straight about one thing. I didn't
want Jenn upset last night. That's
why I let you walk away in one piece. But if you don't stay away from
her, I won't walk away the
next time.
[Peter storms off back to Mickey. Jack, angry, walks back to Alice]
Jack - That's it. I'm going to Jennifer's. I am not going to let the
woman that Iove end up with that....
cretin.*
[Jack turns and looks back at Peter angrily]
cretin - a person suffering from a congenital deficiency of thyroid
secretion with resulting
deformity and idiocy.
So that's what Jack called Peter. LOL! He's got great vocabulary!]
[Jack is outside Jenn's house now. He's holding a a little bag. He rings the doorbell and Jenn answers it. She's wearing her pajamas.]
Jack - May I come in?
[Jennifer hesitates]
Jack - I won't stay for long.
Jenn - (finally) Okay.
[Jack steps inside and closes the door. Jenn walks over to the couch and starts folding a blanket.]
Jack - You look a little pale. Are you sure you're well enough to be home?
Jenn - (forces a smile) Yeah, I'm fine. Really, I'm feeling much better.
There's no - no need for you
to be so concerned.
Jack - Yes, there is. And I think you know that as well as I do.
Jenn - (pauses) I really don't know what you're talking about.
Jack - What I'm talking about is what happened in the cave and then
later in the hospital. The way
you clung to me like you clung to your teddy bear when you were a little
girl. (Jenn stares at him,
looking affected. Jack notices) You did that, Jennifer. You did that.
Because deep down in spite of
everything, you know that you don't belong with Peter.
Jenn - (pauses) Jack --
Jack - (interrupts) No, look. When you spoke to me in the cave with
this love and all this feeling.... I
know that you thought you were living in the past. But I think and
I believe that you were very much
in the present speaking the truth..... You still love me, don't you?
[Jenn continues to stare at him, with tears forming in her eyes]
------------------------------------
[Jack pulls out a teddy bear out of the bag he is holding and holds it up for Jenn to see]
Jack - Do you recognize this?
Jenn - (her mouth falls open) How did you know that?
Jack - (smiles) I did my research. (he hands the bear over to Jenn]
Jenn - (laughs) I can't believe you went to all this trouble, Jack.
Jack - (shrugs) It's no trouble. (he reaches over and takes Jenn's hand
in his, then looks her right in
the eye) Not when you love someone.
[Jenn looks at her hand in his, then quickly pulls it away. Jack looks disappointed]
Jenn - You have to listen to me, all right? I am very, very grateful
to you for saving my life but that
doesn't wipe out the past. (Jack begins to look uncomfortable) Okay?
You walked out on me and
Abby. I will never forget that. But more importantly, I haven't changed
my mind about Peter.
Jack - Yeah but Jennifer, the way you acted, huh? The way you held onto me in that cave.
Jenn - Are you kidding me, Jack? I was delirious! I was thrown back
into the past. That's over! I
am in the present now and my life is different. And I'm tired of this.
I don't want to be angry and I
don't want to be upset anymore. But that doesn't mean that we can be
together again. I have found
someone else and you're gonna have to accept that.
Jack - (looking very, very hurt) Well, I don't want to tire you. (he turns and starts to leave)
Jenn - Jack, listen to me. Jack! I want to be fair, okay? (Jack slowly
turns around and looks at
Jenn) I will never give you custody of Abigail. But I am more than
willing to work out visitation
rights, okay? And I will give you half of our marital assets although
I don't know how much that
means to you since you left me with nothing but debts..... Will that
satisfy you?
Jack - (quietly) I'll get back to you.
[He walks to the door and leaves. Laura walks downstairs and asks Jenn
who was at the door.
Jenn replies that it was Jack and Laura is disappointed that she didn't
get to meet him. Jenn goes on
to say that she thinks she really hurt him just now. And she felt sorry
for him. Cut to Jack outside the
house. He's really angry and scrunching up the bag saying, "Damn...
Peter... Blake." He then says
"to hell with getting mad." He'll get even. He takes out his cellular
phone and calls Dave, his lawyer,
saying that he has an idea on how to get back Jennifer]
---------------------------------------
[It's dark outside now and Jack is back at Salem Place. He's sitting
alone at the same table he and
Alice were sitting at earlier. Laura is walking around Salem Place
and sees Jack and runs over to
him]
Laura - Clark?!
Jack - (turns and is surprised to see Laura, uhh - Monica!) Hey! Monica!
Laura - Clark! (they hug)
Jack - How are you? Hey, what are you doing here?
Laura - Well, that's the same question I was gonna ask you. Actually,
there's so many questions I
want to ask you. Um, but, how's your life?!
Jack - Well... (laughs) That's a tough question right now.
Laura - Oh. All right. Well then, we'll start out with something small
and work our way up. Um,
simple question.... (smiles) What's your real name?
[Jack gives her the cutest smile]
-----------------------------------------
Laura - Is there any reason why you still shouldn't tell me your real name?
[Jack laughs and seems hesitant. Then his cellular phone rings]
Jack - Oh! Excuse me. (takes his phone out and answers) Hello?
Dave - Jack. It's me, Dave.
Jack - (turns serious) Hi. Listen, did you get it?
Dave - I'll explain when I get there. I'm on my way.
Jack - Okay. Great. (hangs up) Monica, it is really great to meet up
with you but something very
important is happening and I've got to run.
Laura - (visibly disappointed) Oh. I understand.
Jack - (pulls out black gloves from his pocket and puts them on) Um... I'm sorry.
Laura - No, don't worry. It's just -- is there any way I can get in touch with you?
Jack - Sure, what's your phone number?
Laura - My cellular number is 555-8347.
Jack - 8347. (smiles) Okay.
Laura - Yeah. Call me anytime!
Jack - (smiles again) Okay.
Laura - Uh Clark, why are you here in Salem?
Jack - It has to do with my wife.
Laura - How are things going with her?
Jack - (hesitates) Not well.
Laura - I see. Well, if you should want to talk about it --
Jack - (clearly in a rush) You'll be the first one that I talk to, okay?
Laura - Okay.
Jack - (waves his hand) Bye.
Laura - Bye...... Clark!! (sees that he's gone. Says to herself) You
forgot to tell me your real name.
Oh well. I'll see you again soon, and then I won't let you forget to
tell me.
---------------------------------------
[Jack and his lawyer, Dave, are outside at another part of Salem Place
sitting at a table. Dave takes
out these papers and slides them across the table to Jack]
Jack - So, she just signed it. No questions asked?
Dave - Not the right ones.
Jack - Excellent. By the time her sharp-eyed and dull-witted boyfriend
sees the fine print, it'll be too
late. This agreement not only give me half of the marital assets. It
gives me the chance to get all of
Jennnifer. Trust me. I intend to use it.
[The camera does a close-up on Jack's hands folding up the papers. Then
it pans up to Jack's face
with a GREAT SHOT of his blue eyes!! He gives another cute, this time
mischevious smile]
