Episode Summary, August 14, 1997 Transcribed by Sandra

This episode begins the morning of Jack's trial.  The show opens with Jack sitting down by himself on a chair, in the living room.  He's wearing a white t-shirt with brownish horizontal stripes and black jeans.  He looks great, as usual, especially when he wears those lighter colors ;-) Jack's looking at pictures... I think his wedding pictures because he's holding one of those brown folders that usually contain professional photographs.  He stares off into space and begins to have a dream.....

Jack's Dream:

Jack & Jennifer have just gotten married.  Jack is carrying Jenn into their house as per wedding tradition.  They are both smiling and laughing.  Abby is throwing dried flowers at them.

Jack -- Hey!!

Jennifer -- Oh!!

Jack places Jennifer down on the ground and they smile at each other and they kiss.   They are still holding each other's arms and they are both filled with joy.

Jennifer -- It was a beautiful wedding!  I love you, Mr. Deveraux.

Jack -- I love you, Mrs. Deveraux.

[They give each other another loving kiss.  Abby is still throwing flowers at them.  Jack & Jennifer notice]

Jennifer -- Sweetie, come here!  [Abby walks toward Jennifer and Jennifer bends down to speak directly to Abby's face]  You were wonderful, sweetie.  You and me and Daddy are a family again.

[Jennifer gets up and smiles at Jack & they begin to kiss again.  Dream ends.  Too bad!  It would have been nice if it actually happened on the show.]

[Jack is now shown staring off into space, clearly lost in his fantasies about Jennifer.  He hears the sound of footsteps and notices Jennifer walking downstairs.  Jennifer's wearing a casual blue sleveless summer dress]

Jack -- Hi.  Good morning.

[Jennifer takes a seat next to Jack]

Jennifer -- How long have been awake?

Jack -- Um... hours.  I can't stop thinking about that hearing today.  This judge's ruling is going to decide where I spend the rest of my life.  Either in prison.  Or with you and Abby.

[Jennifer looks at Jack and seems very serious.  She doesn't say anything.  Scene ends.]

Jennifer --  Jack, everything is going your way.  Mom and Marlena have both given sworn statements that Peter's still alive.  Stefano's still in jail.  Maybe he'll admit the truth about Peter.

Jack -- Jenn, Stefano's never going to admit to anything.

Jennifer [sounds frustrated] -- Well, maybe Kristen will do something good for a change and admit that Peter is still alive.  And then you'll be free.

Jack -- I hope so, Jenn.  I really do.  But if I'm sent back to prison...

Jennifer -- Don't say that....

Jack -- .... Jenn, just listen to me for a minute.  If I'm sent back to prison, I want you to promise me.  I want you to promise me that you'll forget about me.   That you'll find somebody else to love.  Somebody to share your life with.

Jennifer [interrupts Jack] -- No Jack!  No, I can't make you that promise!  I love you.   And I refuse to believe that I am going to lose you again.

[Jennifer gets up from her seat and looks like she is trying to keep calm about the trial.  But it's obvious she is feeling nervous.  Jack gets up to speak to her.]

Jack -- Jenn, listen....

Jennifer [interrupts him] -- Jack, you're innocent and the judge is going to grant your appeal.

[She smiles at Jack, trying to reassure him.  She still looks rather nervous though.  Jack and Jennifer  place their hands on their backs to comfort each other.  Abby and Laura walk downstairs.]

Jack & Jennifer say Good Morning to Abby and Laura.

Abby -- Daddy!!!

[Abby runs to Jack.  Jack lifts her in his arms]

Jack [smiling] -- Hello Sleepy Head!  I was just going to go wake you up!

Laura -- Well, she's been up for a while.  She's been helping me pick out my earrings for today.

Jack [to Abby] -- You picked those out?  They look great.

Laura -- Thank you.  We have a surprise for Daddy, don't we?

Abby -- Yeah!

Laura -- Yeah!

Jack -- Surprise?  I love surprises.  What is it?

Abby -- Daddy!  We can't tell.

Jack [smiling] -- Oh!  That's right.  Then it wouldn't be a surprise, would it?

[Laura smiles and takes Abby to the kitchen.  As soon as they leave, Jennifer's expression becomes more serious again.]

Jennifer [holding Jack's arms] -- Jack, you're home with us.  And we're a family again.  And I pray that nothing ever changes that.

[She leaves the room.  Jack looks worried.  Scene ends.]

Next scene, Maggie and Mickey arrive.  They say their hello's to Jack & Jennifer.  Maggie lifts Abby up in her arms and takes her to the other room.

Laura [to Mickey] -- So, have you found Lynn?

Mickey -- No.  And it... it's almost like she's disappeared.

Laura -- She is a very strange woman.  But for her to just disappear like that...

Jennifer -- Well, I think it's because she was involved with Kristen and Stefano.

Laura -- You could be right.

Jennifer -- If I am, now that Stefano's been arrested, maybe we'll hear from her.

[someone knocks at the door.  Jennifer goes to answer the door and it's Franco and Hope who say they are there for moral support.]

Jack -- Listen, Mickey.  Think I have a chance?

Mickey -- If Abe or the D.A. can break Stefano or Kristen.  Get them to admit that Peter is still alive.

Jack -- He's not going to do that.  What's in it for him?

Mickey -- Well, the D.A. might make him an offer he couldn't refuse.  Or Kristen might want to make up for some of her mistakes.

Jack -- Mickey, if they don't admit that Peter is alive, I don't have a case.

Mickey [looks like he's thinking the same thing as Jack] -- Let's just hope that they do.

[Jack takes a breath and looks at Laura.  Laura comforts him by putting her hand on his arm.  Scene ends.  Next scene, Jack has left the room.  Laura is talking to Mickey with Franco standing nearby listening to them.]

Laura -- You don't seem very confident of victory today, Mickey.  I saw Peter.  I know he's alive.  And Marlena heard Kristen and Vivian both say that Peter is alive.  I mean, what more does the judge need?

Mickey -- Well, he could rule that Marlena's testimony is hearsay.  [Laura looks mad and frustrated]  He could question your recollections, the laser surgery that wiped out your memory.

Laura -- I know that it sounds like science fiction, but that is what happened.

Mickey -- We believe you, Laura.

Laura [looks mad, but is speaking calmly] -- Hmm.. but you don't think the judge will.

Mickey -- I just have to hope that Stefano or Kristen will talk.  And then Jack will be home free.

[Laura looks at Mickey with clear disappointment and frustration on her face.  Scene ends.]

[Jack is now outside on the front porch, thinking about his trial.  He is deep in thought.  Hope shows up outside to have a conversation with him.  Hope walks towards Jack and places her hand on his right shoulder to comfort him.]

Hope -- You okay?

Jack [nervous laugh] -- I don't know.   Well, I'm trying to stay positive.  [He stares at the ground and takes a deep breath.  Then he looks up again at Hope and has a serious look on his face.]  But listen, Hope.  If this hearing doesn't go my way, I need to ask you a favor.  [Hope nods her head to agree and says "of course"]  Jennifer, she's so sure I'm going to be exonerated.  But if I'm not...

Hope [interrupts Jack] -- Jack.  Do not worry.  I will always be here for Jennifer and Abby.  But, I am praying with all of my heart they'll let you go free.  But you can't give up hope.  You can't.

Jack [seems a bit more optimistic, but still cautious]  -- Alright.  I won't.

Hope -- Okay.

Jack --  And when they do set me free, I'm going straight to Rome.

Hope -- Why Rome?

Jack -- I want to find out what's going on with Bo & Billie.

Hope -- They're on their honeymoon.  That's what's going on.

Jack -- Hope, I know how much Bo loves you.  [Hope turns her head away and looks like she doesn't believe Jack]  I just don't understand why he'd just suddenly turn to Billie.

Hope [looks like she has accepted the 'truth'] -- Well, I can explain that one.  We were both wrong about how much Bo loves me.  The only woman he loves now is Billie.  End of story.]

[Laura is in the living room looking at a picture of Jack smiling and holding Abby in his arms.  She places the picture back on the table and looks very worried.  Jennifer enters the room.]

Jennifer [noticing Laura's nervousness] -- Hey.  Am I the only one who's optimistic about the outcome today?

Laura [smiling but looking very nervous] -- No.  Of course not.  We're all hopeful.  [almost crying]  I just wish I had proof that Peter is alive.

Jennifer -- Mom, you risked everything to get to the truth about Stefano and Peter.  [tears in her eyes]  And I will be eternally grateful to you.  And so will Jack.

Laura [crying] -- I wish I could have done more.

Jennifer [smiling through her tears] --  I think we have enough proof.

Laura -- Honey, what if the judge doesn't believe me?  What if he thinks that I'm [she hesitates to say the next word] 'unbalanced?'

Jennifer -- Mom, he is not going to think that.  And plus, we've got Marlena there backing you up.

[Laura gives a slight smile and seems a tiny bit reassured.  Scene ends]

[Jack and Jennifer are now in the living room again.  They have both changed clothes for the trial.  Jack is wearing a dark blue suit, maroon tie and blue dress shirt.  Jennifer is wearing a dark red short sleeved velvet (?) shirt, with a short black skirt.  Jack is fixing his shirt cuffs.  He looks really worried.  Jennifer is caressing Jack's arms, while his back is facing her.  She's leaning over his shoulder to speak to him.]

Jennifer [speaking quietly] -- You're going to come home a free man, Jack.  You're innocent and we're going to prove it.

[Mickey and Franco walk into the room.  Jack turns around to face Jennifer.  He looks at her lovingly and places his hands on her arms.]

Jack [trying to sound calm.  But tears are forming in his eyes] -- I hope so.  I love you so much.

Jennifer -- I love you too.

[They embrace each other close, clearly not wanting to let go of one another.  Jack looks as though he is trying to stay strong for Jennifer as he tries to hold back his tears.  Jennifer is teary-eyed as well.  Mickey approaches them as they are still embracing]

Mickey -- Jack, I think we better go to the courthouse.

[Jack nervously releases himself from his embrace with Jennifer, but continues to hold her hands.  He looks very nervous and takes a deep breath, trying to keep calm.]

Hope -- We'll be praying for you, Jack.

[Hope leans over and gives Jack a warm hug.  Jack thanks her as he's hugging her.]

Jack -- If I get through this, I'll be on a plane to Rome tonight, alright?

[Jack smiles.  Hope has her hands on Jack's face.  She smiles and quietly says "okay."  Franco shakes Jack's hand and leaves the room with Hope.  Jennifer and Jack are now alone in the living room.  They look at each other lovingly and embrace again.  This time, Jennifer starts to quietly cry as tears continue to form in Jack's eyes.  Scene ends.  End of episode.]
