When Jack and Jennifer arrived back in Salem from Paris, they had
a visitor at the door. It was
Peter who had brought Daniel with him. Peter had threatened
Daniel and told him to change his
story so he could get Jennifer back. Daniel proceeded to tell Jennifer
that all the horrible things
he had said Peter had done was just a lie and he said that Peter
was not a bad guy after all.
Later at Salem Place, Jennifer runs into Daniel. Thinking
that it was suspicious how he could
just change his story like that, Jennifer decides to question him.
Jenn - (angry) I meant what I said, Daniel. I want answers!
Now first you backed Jack's
accusations about Peter in Paris. Then you show up here in Salem
claiming that everything you
said was a lie. I want the truth. And I'm not gonna stop
'till I get it.
Jennifer looks at Daniel firmly, showing him that she is not going to give up.

Jenn - Who is telling the truth -- Peter or Jack?
Daniel - I told you everything I know about Peter. Now I have to go. (begins to walk away)
Jenn - (grabs his arm and stops him) No, I'm not done with you yet!
Daniel - Why aren't you satisfied with the answers I gave you?!
Jenn - Because I have a feeling that there's a lot more to this story
than you're telling me. Now
let's start with this gambling debt that you ran up in Paris.
You say that Jack offered to pay it off
for you in exchange for information about Peter. How did he make
that offer?
Daniel begins to look irritated.
Daniel - I told you! The people I owed money were going to break
my knee caps or maybe
worse. Jack showed up and said he'd pay my debts in exchange
for information about Peter.
Jenn - (tries to understand) So you told Jack all these horrible
things about Peter and you even
signed a confession.
Daniel - (matter-of-factly) Right.
Jenn - And now you claim that all of that was just a lie. Was it?
Daniel - (angry) How many times do I have to go over this?!! (he begins to walk away again)
Jenn - (stops him, furious) I want to hear it again!! Do
you have information that proves that
Peter was involved in anything illegal or corrupt? Or did you
just make it all up because your life
was being threatened and you wanted Jack to bail you out?!
Daneil - I told Jack what he wanted to hear because I wanted him to
pay my gambling debts!
How many times do I have to go over this?!!
Jenn - Daniel, you are really making me mad!!! What do you know about Peter?!!
Daniel looks at her troubled. Jennifer doesn't back down and looks
determined to find out the
truth.

Daniel - Jennifer, I told you. I don't know anything about Peter being involved in illegal activities.
Jenn - Ever?
Daniel - (starts to laugh) I don't even know Peter that well!
Jenn - So you didn't change your story because you owed him anything
or because he
threatened you life in any way?
Daniel - No. I just want to put this behind me and get out of town.
Daniel pulls out a plane ticket. Jennifer looks at it and it triggers
a memory in her mind. Earlier
that day at Salem Place, she saw Peter talking to a woman and handing
her that same
plane ticket. She realizes that the ticket Daniel is holding
is the same one she saw Peter holding
before. Realizing what this means, a smile slowly begins to appear
on Jennifer's face.
Daniel - Goodbye, Jennifer. Good luck.
Jenn - (sweetly) You have a safe trip.
Daniel begins to walk away.
Jenn - I see you got that ticket that Peter left with the travel agent.
Daniel quickly turns around and stares at Jenn, very confused.
Daniel - You know about this?
Jennifer continues to look at Daniel and smiles.

Daniel - You know about Peter getting me this plane ticket?
Jenn - (smiles) Of course I do! (pauses) Peter told me everything.
Daniel - (looks very suspicious) What do you mean by 'everything'?
Jenn - The money.... The plane ticket.... The real
reason you're leaving town....
Everything!
Daniel - (confused) If he told you everything, then why are you questioning me?
Jenn - It's a test, Daniel.
Daniel - A test?
Jenn - Yeah! Peter wanted to make sure that you didn't break down,
tell the truth again like you
did in Paris with Jack. But I'm gonna tell him not to worry about
a thing, that you stuck to your
story that he wanted you to tell.
Daniel - (still doubtful) I don't know what you're talking about, Jennifer.
Jenn - Daniel! It's okay! You've proved your loyalty. You can relax. Peter told me everything.
Daniel - (stares at her) He wouldn't do that.
Jenn - Then how would I know about that plane ticket?
Daniel - (looks at it) Peter didn't get me this plane ticket.
Jenn - (acts like she knows he's lying) Well, I can describe the
travel agent to you. She's about
5'6". Brunette. I was there when he bought the ticket,
Daniel. You got it today, right?
Daniel - (still doubtful) I picked up this ticket myself.
Jenn - (exasperated) Daniel! It's okay!! Peter and
I had a long talk. Now I am not naive. I
figured that he didn't get rich by doing everything above board.
Daniel - (slowly) I guess...
Jenn - (continues to explain herself, just trying to convince Daniel
of her story) I told Peter that
what's in the past is in the past and I forgave him. And he told
me about his connection to you
and how you two were involved in some shady activities.
Daniel - (starting to fall for it) Yeah, we.... we did a few things together. (he says this proudly)
Jenn - Ha! A few?! Well, I'd hardly call it a few...
Peter told me all about it. (chooses her words
carefully) Even more than you admitted to in Paris.
Daniel - (shocked) Did he?
Jenn - Yeah! We can talk openly about this now, Daniel!
Daniel stares at Jennifer for awhile, studying her. Then he finally buys her story.
Daniel - Whew! This is a relief!
Jennifer begins to laugh, but she looks bothered that she is finally
getting the confirmation that
Peter really is a bad person.
Daniel - But I'm amazed that Peter told you everything!
Jenn - Well, I'm a big girl! And I have to protect my own financial
future. I mean, I understand
that a man doesn't become a great success like Peter by following the
straight and narrow.
Daniel - (laughs) Certainly not the man who is the adopted son of Stefano Dimera.
Jenn - Right. (nods, understandably) Boy, Jack sure did
come close to exposing him a couple
of times, didn't he?!
Daniel - (laughs along with her, enjoying this) Did he ever!
But Peter always managed to cover
it up and make Jack look like the fool.
Jennifer's face shows guilt, as she is probably feeling horrible for
not believing Jack sooner. She
now knows that everything Jack had been saying is absolutely true.
Daniel - (overjoyed) Oh, this is great! Now that you know
everyting, I am finally off the hook.
Peter's gotta be relieved too. Now he doesn't have to tell you
lies every day, day in and day out.
Jennifer puts on a fake smile, but we see that she is hurting.

Daniel - (looking very relieved) It must be a real weight off
Peter's shoulders -- you knowing the
truth.
Jenn - (forcing the words out) Oh, yes. Now he doesn't have to lie to me anymore.
Daniel - Or threaten people like me who could expose him.
Jenn - Oh, yeah. You know how he gets when he's angry!
Daniel - (laughs and agrees) If I hadn't agreed to come back to
Salem with Peter and tell you
that I lied to Jack, I don't know what he would've done to me!
I'm not even sure I'd be alive right
now!
Jenn - (bothered by that) Well, you don't have to worry about that now, do you?
Daniel - (laughs) No.
Daniel stares at Jennifer for awhile, looking amazed at what is going on.
Daniel - You're quite a woman, Jennifer! I'm just amazed that
you'd stay with Peter after all he's
done!
Jenn - Well, he did what he had to do... and I understand.
Daniel - No wonder he was so desperate to hold on to you. If you
can forgive a man like Peter,
you're one-of-a-kind. Especially after what he did to your mother.
The smile on Jennifer's face freezes and then slowly disappears.
"My mother..." she says. Her
eyes turn icy as she tries to comprehend what she had just heard.

Jennifer walks past Daniel, her face showing her sadness and shock.
Daniel sees this and gets
worried.
Daniel - Uh oh. I thought Peter told you. Forget it!
Jenn - (turns around, determined to find out the truth) No, he
did tell me. He told me about my
mother.
Daniel - (doubtful) Yeah, but you looked awfully surprised just now.
Jenn - I'm just still a little stunned. I understand how desperate Peter was.
Daniel - (agrees) Desperate enough to try to drive your mother
crazy. I always thought the two
of you were close.
Jenn - Well, we were... until I found out she had an affair with Jack.
Daniel - Yeah, if Peter realized that Laura and Jack were gonna meet
and have an affair, I think
he would've changed his plans. But he was so sure that she was
trying to come between the two
of you, he wanted her out of the picture. And he almost succeeded
too.
Jenn - My mother never was very stable.
Daniel - (laughs) Peter knew that. She almost went
over the edge when he repainted her
office with that toxic paint.
Jennifer almost looks horrified as she realizes that Peter was responsible
for her mother's
problems before. She continues to listen to Daniel, trying to
hide her shock.
Daniel - She never realized that the voices she was hearing....
they were coming from that
statue that I gave her! (laughs)
Jenn - (stares at Daniel) You helped a lot with Peter's plan...
Daniel - Yeah. Peter was paying me well to date Laura.
Jennifer walks past him so her back is turned to him. I guess
she doesn't want him to see her
face anymore, or he might notice how upset she is. She quietly
continues to listen to Daniel's
story, and looks as if she is almost ready to cry.
Daniel - But you know, I have to admit that I felt a little bit of guilt
deceiving Laura. I liked her.
I'm sorry that she wound up in the middle of things. But...
I had a job to do and Peter was
worried. Especially when Laura saw him with one of his drug contacts
on the pier one night.
Peter managed to convince her that the guy was just a business acquaintance,
but he definitely
wanted her out of the picture then.
Jenn - (staring straight ahead, looking dazed) Peter would go to great lengths to hold on to me.
Daniel - But he realized he went too far when she tried to jump
off that hospital roof, and it
freaked him out when you almost died trying to save her. That's
when he backed up from
gaslighting her... and I'm glad he did. I thought he went a little
too far with that, don't you?
Jenn - (nods quickly) Yes.
Daniel - And you still forgive him, huh Jennifer?
Jennifer turns around and faces Daniel. She still looks upset
but tries to put a convincing look
on her face.
Jenn - Yes. As I said before, my mom's okay. Peter has given
me such a nice life. I'm not just
gonna walk away from that. (very cooly) Especially because
he loves me so much....
Everything's he's done, he's done for love.
Daniel - He's lucky to have you. (the irony of those words are
felt) It's hard to believe all the
things he's done.
Jenn - (looking stunned and upset, says slowly) Yes, it's hard to believe...

Daniel - Well, if you're finished 'testing' me, I'd like to get out of Salem.
Jenn - Of course. I'll tell Peter you stuck by your story.
Daniel - (concerned) Oh, yeah. That's the last thing I need
-- Peter after me again. (Jennifer is
still trying to comprehend the fact that Peter is so cruel) Good
luck, Jennifer. Be careful. Even
though Peter's last name is Blake..... he's a Dimera through
and through.
And with that, Daniel quickly walks away, leaving Jennifer alone.
With Daniel gone, Jennifer
openly shows her emotions and sits down on a bench. She is very
upset.
Jenn - (to herself) Jack was right....... Peter is a monster.
