"Superman is what I can do; Clark is who I am."

Premiering in September of 1993, Lois and Clark: The New Adventures of Superman was a phenomenal success for ABC. A much more lavish version of the popular Superman television series which had first aired forty years earlier, "Lois and Clark" focused more on the Man of Steel's early adult years in Metropolis. There Clark Kent finds work at the Daily Planet newspaper. It is also there that he meets fellow reporter Lois Lane, who is infatuated with Superman and rebukes all of Clark's romantic overtures. The rest of the Daily Planet staff includes Perry White, the chief editor, society columnist Catherine "Cat" Grant (who suddenly disappears after the first season), and cub reporter Jimmy Olsen (who gets a major makeover after the first season). Other major characters in the series include archvillain Lex Luthor and Clark's adoptive parents, Martha and Jonathan Kent.

Lois and Clark: The New Adventures of Superman follows the relationship between Lois and Clark through four seasons--from their first meeting, to their first date, to Clark's proposal, and Lois's proposal, to their disasterous first wedding, to their real wedding, and on into married life. Unfortunately it came to an abrupt halt at the end of the fourth season. ABC reneged on the contract for the fifth season and the series went off the air in 1997. Reruns can still be seen on TNT 6 pm ET on weekdays and 9 am ET on Sundays.
