Tom Paris walked quickly into his quarters, eager to begin
preparations
for lunch. He had a date with B'Elanna Torres in less than
an hour and he
wanted to be ready. Very ready.
He smiled. It was April first, April Fool's
Day. One of his favorite
holidays. Why? Because of the pranks.
He'd already put pink hair dye in Harry's moose,
turning his hair a
lovely shade of bright pink. Jena had helped with that.
And when
Lieutanent Whitney woke up, she found she wasn't in her quarters, but
in
the ocean. Paris and Hamilton are carried her to the Holodeck
and run and
ocean program. At least *she* had a sense of humor about it and
vowed to
get them back.
Tuvok, on the other hand, definatly was laughing.
He'd accidentaly
been sprayed with a very affective type of laughing gas. All
morning he'd
suddenly burst out laughing, then desperatly try to get
himself under control. Jena had visited the bridge
several times, which Captain Janeway found more than a bit suspicious,
and since Tom couldn't stop chuckling and looking back at Tuvok, she guessed
whohe practical jokers were.
Heather Whitney had vowed to get Paris back, but
didn't hint she knew
Jena had been in on the scheme. She, being Betazoid, knew very
well how
involved Jena was in the April Fool's Jokes being played round the
ship.
She was planning retrobution for the two, and in fact, already knew
what
she was going to do.
Tom's lunch date was important. Nobody but
he dared to play a trick on
B'Elanna. He couldn't wait to see what Torres thought of what
he had in
store for her.
*****************
B'Elanna brushed her hair one last
time as she hummed an off-beat tune. She had a lunch date with
Tom and
she was looking forward to it. She fastened a simple silver necklace
around
her neck and gazed at her reflection on the mirror and smiled. She
wore a
sleeveless red dress that went halfway down her shins and, of course,
the
necklace. She glanced at the chrometer and sighed. In her excitement,
she
had gotten ready fifteen minutes early. She sat down on the couch and
sighed. *May the fifteen minutes begin.* she thought ruefully.
*****************
Heather walked into the Mess Hall and scanned the occupants
sitting at
the tables, like a huntress scanning for her prey. She singled out
one girl
and headed for her table.
"Mind if I join you, Jena?" she asked. The girl's head
shot up from the
PADD she had been working on.
She smiled, although Heather could sense she knew what
was coming.
"Uh..sure, Heather!" Jena replied, not knowing what to
expect, since Tom
had told her that Heather was also a prankster and had played *many*
jokes
on him and his colleagues at the Acadamy.
Heather sat down and eyed the Bajoran girl, " Iwant you
to tell me the
truth. Did *you* or *Tom* think of the practical joke involving
me in the
ocean? If it was you, you should live in fear. If it was Tom,
well, then,
he had it coming and..."
"He'll live in fear?" Jena asked jokingly. Heather nodded
and smirked.
"It was Tom's idea but he shouldn't take the full brunt
of the blame..."
Jena started to speak but was interrupted by Heather, "Don't worry.
Like I
said, he had it coming even *before* the April Fool's joke. Anyway,
I have
an idea to get back at him but you can't tell *anybody* about it."
she
said.
Jena thought for a moment, then smiled wickedly, "Just
tell me what you
have in mind." she said.
Heather smiled and leaned in close to Jena. She whispered
her plan, and
Jena's smile grew eviler.
******************
B'Elanna hurried down Deck 3 and rang the bellchime on
Tom's door. Her
stomache was fluttering with butterfles. *Why should I be nervous?*
she
asked herself, but then remembered overhearing a conversation on the
way to
Tom's quarters between the Captain and Commander...
Captain Janeway and Commander Chakotay strolled down the
corridor
together, laughing at the pranksTom and Jena had played.
"Carrying Heather to the holodeck was definetely a good
one." Captain
Janeway commented.
Commander Chakotay nodded, "It's a good thing she's a
sound sleeper. But
you have to admit, spraying Tuvok with laughing gas was pretty funny."
he
said, chuckling.
"There's always a first for everything, Commander." Captain
Janeway
reminded him, laughing.
"And turning Harry's hair bright pink!" Commander Chakotay
said.
Captain Janeway just laughed, "I don't know how they did
that but, boy,
it sure worked!"
Meanwhile, B'Elanna had overheard all of this and was
starting to get
apprehensive of having a lunch date with Tom. Sure, they had only been
dating for a week, but would he really play a trick on her? *After
playing
a trick on everyone else on the ship, yes. Knowing Tom, he would.*
she
thought reluctantl. Just then, the doors opened and she stepped inside.
Tom
came up to her and they exchanged a kiss. B'Elanna decided to just
go along
with whatever Tom was planning and just be on the lookout for anything
unusual. She managed to glance around his quarters but didn't see anything
unusual. *But that doesn't mean its not coming.* she thought.
The two lieutenants sat down and started to eat, B'Elanna
getting even
more confused by the second. Ten minutes passed by, and then fifteen,
and
still nothing. Then, to pass the time, B'Elanna began to ask questions
about the food.
"So, what's in it?" She asked before taking a bite.
"Oh, this and that."
"Hmm?"
"A little of this, a little of that."
B'Elanna didn't like the way *this* was beginning to sound.
Not at all.
"A little of what?"
"Well, let's see....I started off with a dash of
blood wine, for flavoring, a handful a fresh gach for
a little movement, oh, can't forget the piece of
blood pie I ground up with it. And for a little
spice, Ferengi snuf beetles. Living, of course."
Abrubtly, Torres stopped eating. She became pale as
Paris began
laughing. "You're joking, right?"
"No, why would I be? Aren't you always saying you
want to be more
involved in your culture?"
"No!"
"Hmm, maybe that was Jena...."
"Tom!"
"What?"
More than a bit angered, she stormed out.
"Wait!" He yelled as she shoved him roughly aside to leave.
He frowned as he realized he hadn't even gotten to enjoy the
actual prank
he'd been planning.
*I try to warm up for the grand finale, and look what happens..*
****************
As quietly as possible, Heather and Jena snuck down the hallway
near
Tom's quarters.
"You're sure you can pull this off?" Jena asked.
"Oh, I'm sure. Just watch for Tom."
Jena nodded and took her post near Tom's door as Heather jury-rigged
it.
Once she was in, she made her way directly to Tom's shower. After
pressing
a few buttons, tearing out a few wires, she ran out.
"Let's go!" She cried.
The two ran down the hall. Suddenly, Seven of Nine appeared
and only
Heather had time to avoid slamming into her.
Seven felt a great force slam into her then felt herself fall
back onto
the floor. "An interesting
sensation." she commented.
"Yeah, I'm sure." Jena ooked around to see Heather gone.
"That little-"
Seeing Seven still lying on the floor, she offered a hand.
Seven stared at her, unsure of why Jennifer was offering her
a hand.
"Do you want get up?"
"Yes."
After helping her up, Seven showed her a datapadd she was holding.
"I am
looking for McDonald." She said calmly.
Jena stifled a laugh. Taking the padd, with the captain's
name at the
bottom, she realized what had happened.
The captain had misprinted "Ms. Donald", a young Maquis sercurity
officer, with "McDonald". The temptation was too much.
"I hear he has a farm."
"Thank you. That will be helpful in my search. McDonald
does not appear
in any records."
"Listen for moos and quacks."
"Thank you."
As Seven walked off, futily looking for McDonald, Jena began
hysterically
laughing.
*********************
Down in Engineering, Ensign Jane Marlett and Ensign Morgan
Chesly were
waiting for their own prank to go into affect.
"Here he comes," Jane said.
"This ought to be good!" Morgan excitedly noted.
Jane surpressed a giggle and the two busied themselves
in their work,
which was quite a lot, since B'Elanna Torres had come
storming into Engineering and ordered everyone to do something.
"Boy, what's eating her?" Jane had asked to Morgan earlier,
who had
shrugged.
Vorik walked into Engineering quickly and sat down at his workstation.
"Computer, begin diagnostic of warp core efficiancy."
"I don't wanna!" The computer responded.
"Excuse me?"
"I'm sick a doin' yer dirty work!"
Vorik didn't crack a smile, but everyone in
Engineering burst out laughing.
"That is an illogical statment from a computer."
"Oh, Mr. Fancypants wants ta talk in big words! Well,
I got a vocab of
billions! Can ya match dat, Mr. I-got-my-ears-caught-in-a-can-opener!"
Vorick's eyebrow raised, as did Engineering morale.
*****************
"I didn't know it was going to flip!" Jena yelled at Tom as
he helped her
to Sickbay.
"Don't blame it on me!"
They'd been on the
holodeck, in the Paraskiing program, when Jena's board flipped over
and
she'd hurt her wrist.
They walked into Sickbay and activated the Doctor. He appeared
wearing a
bright-pink dress.
"Let's polka!" He shouted, grabbing Tom's arm, trying to get
him to
dance.
"Doc!" Tom shouted, "What's wrong with you?"
"Nothing! I wanna polka!"
"Computer deactivate EMH!"
They waited for a few seconds. "Reactive EMH," Tom said
cautiously.
The Doctor appeared wearing black shades a a black suit.
"Here come the
Men in Black," he began singing.
Tom sighed. "Somebody messed with his program."
"I don't care! Just fix my wrist!"
Tom led her to a biobed and began repairing herinjured wrist.
The Doctor
now had a guitar and was singing about a lost dog.
"My poooooooor doggie! He done run away! Anybody
seen little lost
Fido??"
*****************
Captain Janeway smiled as she entered the Mess Hall. Everyone
was
laughing or giggling about something or other about all the April Fool's
jokes that had been played on their colleagues. She went over to Neelix,
who was humming as he worked. She helped herself to some coffee and
added a
little bit sugar in it. She passed the table where Ensigns Chesly,
Marlett
were telling Ensigns Beth Carmen, Shelly Darmat, and Melissa Paso about
how
they had programmed the computer to ignore Vorek's requests and to
talk
back at his requests as well. Captain Janeway shook her head and tried
to
keep from smiling, but it was no use. She walked over to a small table
near
the back, where Commander Chakotay was busy working on a padd while
drinking some Raktajino.
"Mind if I join you, Chakotay?" she asked, using his name and
not his
rank since they were off duty.
Chakotay glanced up and smiled, "Be my guest." he said, gesturing
to the
seat across from him. Captain Janeway sat down and he put the padd
away.
"Well, this April Fool's Day is off to a good
start." Captain Janeway commented, setting down her steaming
cup of
coffee, which was a little bit too
hot for her to drink at them moment.
Chakotay smiled and nodded, "It'll be fun to see the outplay
of all the
jokes." he said. Across from him, Kathryn smiled, "I just hope nothing
affects the
ship, or the crew for that matter." she said, frowning thoughtfully.
Chakotay shook his head, "I don't think so. They know better
than to mess
with the computer." he said.
Kathryn nodded and sipped her coffee. It was cool so she drank
from the
mug. Suddenly, she withdrew the cup, a weird look on her face. She
swallowed, "Ugh!" she said, and practically ran over to the kitchen.
She
appeared a moment later with a glass of water. She went back over to
the
table and sat back down, well aware of the glances that were being
sent her
way.
"Kathryn?" Chakotay asked, confused at her behavior.
"Somebody swapped the sugar and salt." she explained. In a louder
voice,
she said, "Everyone, you've been warned. Also, I don't mind if you
play
little pranks on each other, just don't let it affect your work in
any
way." she said. Everyone nodded and the Mess Hall echoed with, "Yes,
sirs."
and "Yes, ma'ams".
She sighed. April Fool's day was certainly going to be an *interesting*
day.
************
Heather sighed as B'Elanna ranted and raved about what Tom had
done.
Heather hadn't realized what a *big* mistake she had made when she
had
asked B'Elanna how her date with Tom had gone. After accidentally running
into Seven of Nine and high-tailing away from her and Jena, she had
headed
to Engineering. She had actually run into Vorek on his way out, and
he had
been *swearing*. Of course, he had been doing it in the Vulcan traditional
language so she couldn't understand what he had been saying, but she
had
cracked up with laughter as soon as she had entered Main Engineering.
*There's a first for everything.* she thought gleefully, remembering
it.
Then she turned her attention back to B'Elanna.
"...and he substitued the drinks for blood wine and he actually
served
Ferengi Snuf Beetles!" she finished, smoke practically pouring
from her
ears.
Heather smiled, "Sounds good." she joked.
"Heather!" B'Elanna shouted angrily.
Heather winced, "Don't worry. He's already the victim of
a joke, although
he doesn't know it yet.
But the next time he wants to take a shower..." she
said, trying to cheer B'Elanna up. It worked.
B'Elanna stopped ranting, "What did you do to him?" she asked.
Heather smiled, "Let's just say that he'll be seeing a lot of
chocolate
syrup." she said gleefully.
Just then, Jena hurried into Engineering with a diagnostic for
B'Elanna.
She spotted the two young women and practically ran over to them, tears
streaming out of her eyes and down her face. She
wordlessly handed B'Elanna the padd and began
laughing. Hard. The two lieutenants just stood there.
"Well, Jena?" Heather asked.
"Oh, Heather, you missed it!" Jena said, then she realized she'd
better
explain, "After I helped Seven of Nine up after *you* knocked her down-"
Heather winced, "Sorry. It was accidental."
"I know. -she told me that she had to give a report from the
Captain to
MacDonald." Jena explained.
Heather cracked up laughing.
" 'Cause Captain Janeway accidently made a typo and put MacDonald
instead
of Ms. Donald." Jena went on, "And I told her that she should look
for a
farm and she would hear quacks and moos if she was close."
Heather started laughing again and B'Elanna smiled widely, forgetting
for
a second that she was supposed to be angrey at a certain Tom Paris.
When they all stopped laughing, Heather spoke up, "I have an
idea for
Harry." she said, and the two others listened intently as Heather
explained.
Fifteen minutes later...
`````````````````````````````
Heather had coaxed B'Elanna into leaving Engineering and she,
B'Elanna,
and Jena cautiously crept down Deck 3, where Harry Kim's quarters were.
The
odd trio stopped at his door and Heather quickly by-passed the security
codes and walked in.
"I'm beginning to be an expert at this." she
muttered. B'Elanna raised her eyebrows and Jena
laughed softly.
Heather glanced around, "I'll start in the bedroom, you two
work in the
living room." she said, noting that Harry's quarters were immaculate.
The
ensign was *very* neat and tidy. *But that'll just make our job more
easier.* Heather thought gleefully.
B'Elanna and Jena counted to three and hoisted Harry's couch
up and
looked around, looking for a place to store it. They chose in front
of the
door
and placed it there. When Jena questioned B'Elanna
how they would all get out, B'Elanna replied in two
words, "Jeffries tubes."
*****************
Harry Kim was tired. Very tired. It had been along
day *without* all the
little jeers about his
pink hair.
He walked into his quarters, or tried to, becausesomething was
blocking
the door. He flipped over itonto the floor.
"Umpf!"
He tried to get up but found a chair suspended from the ceiling
on which
he hit his head, hard.
"Ow!"
He stumbled blindly over his coffee table, falling again,
trying to find
the bed.
"Eugh!"
The table he found where his bed should be. He tried to
find the
replicator, but the bed was
blocking it.
"Lights!"
"Sorry, Harry honey, but I don't wanna turn on the lights," a
female voice
swooned.
Harry groaned. He had to be back on the bridge soon.
All he'd wanted was
a little sleep.
*What are they going to do to me next?*
*************************
Jennifer was quite happy with herself.
*Tom should be sitting at the helm, wishing he could be home,
taking a
nice warm shower.*
She snickered. Only she knew that once a week, today to
be precise, Tom
took a *water* shower. It was routine. She shook her head.
*I only wish I could be there to see it!*
The more she thought about, the better a shower sounded.
She stepped into
her quarters and prepared for a soothing shower.
First, though, she checked the shower's wiring, smelled her shampoo,
and
ran the water for a few minutes.
After stepping in and taking a shower, she came out and dried
off. As she
dressed, she happened to glance in the mirror. She surpressed
the urge to
scream.
Her hair was red with blonde streaks running through it!
"Heather!"
She remembered telling Heather she wouldn't look good as a blonde
or
red-head. She'd only told Heather that. *Only* Heather.
"She'll pay."
***********************
Jena was still assesing the damage when the captain called.
"Jena, can you bring me the power relays report please?" She
asked over
the comm.
"Y-Yes, captain. Right away."
Janeway wasn't stupid. She could tell something was up
when Heather told
her that *Jena* had the report.
Her suspicions were confirmed when Heather stepped onto the bridge
a few
moments later.
The turbolift doors opened, as did everyone's mouths. Jena's
hair was
very noticabl different. Red and blonde weren't a good combination.
"Jena....." Tom started, but couldn't finish.
Jena acted as if nothing was wrong, and gave the report directly
to
Janeway.
"Uh, Jena, did you do something....different...with
your hair?" Commander Chakotay asked.
"Oh, yes! Apparently an odorless, colorless dye magically
seeped into my
shampoo and changed the color considerably. But, these things
do happen,
don't they Heather?"
Heather nodded, trying not to laugh.
"Is that all?" Jena asked.
"Um, yes. Thank you." Janeway responded.
Jena turned to leave and Heather smiled, looking at the bruise
on Harry's
forehead and remembering Jena's hair. *Two down, two to go.*
she thought
gleefully, although she was worried about what side affects *her* jokes
would have on B'Elanna and Tom.
***********************
Ensign Beth Carmen, a friend of Ensign Marlett and Ensign Chesly,
tapped
Tom on his shoulder at the helm. His shift had ended and she was there
to
relieve him of the conn. Tom glanced up.
"Lt., the Delta shift is over." Beth informed him. The pilot
smiled and,
without a word, headed for the turbolift, looking forward to a nice
*long*
shower. Beth sat quickly down at the comm. and ran her fingers over
the
keys. She absolutely loved piloting Voyager, or more precise, any ship.
She
sighed and leaned back, letting her chin length black hair cover the
chair.
She loved her job and was glad that she hadn't been the victim of any
practical joke.
***********************
Tom opened his quarters and stepped in, looking cautiously around
his
quarters. Everything was in its place, which wasn't unusual, except
for the
fact that today was April Fool's day. He raised his eyebrow. *Maybe
I was
wrong. Maybe Heather doesn't go for pranks anymore.* he thought wistfully,
remembering the Acadamy days when the girls, led by Heather, and the
boys,
led by himself, had had a week of pranks and fun playing tricks on
the
other side.
Tom prepared for a shower and stepped into the shower. He pressed
a button
and expected water to come pouring out. Something did come pouring
out,
although it wasn't water. It was chocolate syrup. He closed his eyes
and
pressed the button to stop the syrup from pouring out, but he was too
late.
The chocolate syrup stopped coming out, but by that time, he was
soaked.
His first instinct was to call an engineer down to fix it, but then,
on
second thought, remembered that he was naked and completely *covered*
with
chocolate syrup. Then, it hit him. Who had done it? *Heather.* he thought,
then sighed, remembering that less than a minute ago, he had been
under-estimating. He got a towel, wrapped it around himself, and opened
the
panel controlling the shower. He carefully re-rigged it, reached into
the
shower, and turned the shower back on. Nothing happened. He re-opened
the
panel and for the first time realized that Heather had *completely*
sabatoged the shower.
*I guess I'll just have to use a sonic shower.* he thought, *Then
on
second thought, Heather probably sabatoged that, too.*
Tom went over to the sonic shower and, for the first time, saw
a note
attatched by a pink ribbon dangling from the towel handle next to the
sonic
shower. He immediately recognized it as one of Jena's.
*So she was in on this, too.* he thought, his eyes narrowed.
He uncoilded
the scroll like letter and read:
Dear Helmboy,
Did ya think I wouldn't get you back for the ocean trick?
Well, you thought wrong!
Be prepared. This is only the beginning.
Oh, and yes, the sonic shower *does* work,
Although I'm not through with you yet!
From,
Heather
He sighed, remembering the time when Heather found out what the Lady
Q had
called him on the bridge. She had gone nuts over it and hadn't let
Tom
forget the incident yet. He sighed and took a sonic shower, all the
while
thinking of how he'd get back at Heather. Then he had it.
***********************
Seven of Nine finished up her search for McDonald. She had finally
admitted to herself that either she was losing it or that McDonald
didn't
exist. For her sake, she hoped that McDonald didn't exist and that
the
Captain had been playing an April Fool's trick on her. *But from what
I
have observed from Captain Janeway, she is not the practical joker
type.*
Seven thought. She walked over to Ensigns Marlett and Chesly.
"Ensign Marlett, Ensign Chesly, I have a question. Do either
of you know
where I could find McDonald?" Seven asked the two young engineers.
Jane and Morgan looked at each other, thinking that Seven was
playing a
prank on them
"I hear he has a farm." Jane kidded, smiling a little, hoping
Seven would
take the hint that she knew about the joke.
Seven sighed, "I have already been told that by Miss Hamilton,
but that
has remained futile information in my search for him. Captain Janeway
told
me to give this data padd with a report on Astro Physics to her earlier
today. I have yet to find him and was hoping you two might be of help."
she
explained, standing tall over the two young women.
Jane and Morgan looked at each other. Then, spontaneously, they
reached
for the padd. Seven handed it to them and Morgan read it while Jane
looked
on over her shoulder. Morgan immediately saw what the problem was.
"Uhh, Seven? I think the Captain made a small mistake on the
name. I
believe you're supposed to give this padd to Ms. Donald, a young Marquis
securitey officer." Morgan replied, handing the padd back to Seven,
whe was
bemused.
"You mean to say that McDonald doesn't exist?" Seven asked incredulously.
Jane smiled, "Actually, there's a children's song that's called
"Old
McDonald Had A Farm" but, no, there is no "McDonald" onboard Voyager."
she
replied.
"Thank you. I will give this padd to Ensign Donald immediately."
Seven
said, taking the padd. Without a further word, she left Engineering,
and as
soon as the doors closed, the whole Engineering staff burst out laughing.
***********************
Tom ran to catch up with Jena in the corridor. He caught her
just in time
before she entered Engineering. He saw, to his amusement, that her
hair was
still bright red with blonde streaks.
"Hey, Jena! Nice hair." he commented. Jena stopped and put her
hands on
her hips and managed not to smile, "Thanks." she said sarcastically.
"I heard that you wanted to get back at Heather." he said quietly.
Jena nodded, then realized that Tom had probably already encountered
the
chocolate syrup scenario. *Hopefully, he doesn't realize that I helped.*
she thought worriedly.
"I was wondering, do you think Heather would look good as a blonde?"
he
asked. Jena's eyes lit up, "You know, come to think of it, she would!"
***********************
B'Elanna worked on a padd. in a room off of Engineering. In the
background, she could hear her crew talking cheerfully while they worked.
She was still fuming over what Tom had done. She knew it was April
Fool's
Day. *But still...* she thought wistfully. She was going to get back
at him
for good about
tricking her with the lunch date. She just had to figure out what to
do to
him. Suddenly, her eye caught a foot note on the bottom of her padd.
She
accessed the file and read it. She smiled evily. *Ah-ha!* she thought.
***********************
Jena didn't trust him. She knew that he knew that
nobody knew he took a shower that day, after his
shift.
*And now I can't find my favorite blue hairband!*
She'd planned on putting her hair up, to make it
less noticable. Little chance now. Her blue
hairband was the only one she had left.
Tom wondered if Jena had any clue what was in store
for her.
*Nobody double-crosses me and lives to tell about
it, Jen.* He smiled, thinking how shocked she'd be.
Jena smiled at Tom's smile. *Man, he must think I'm
a total idiot! He *must* know I was in on it!*
However, the more she thought about it, the more she
doubted. She did firmly resolve to keep her guard up.
Heather was quite happy with herself. She had
gotten Tom back and now she felt content. Now, only
B'Elanna was left. *Wonder what I could do....*
Realizing what would be perfect, she raced to
Torres' quarters.
*********************
"That should do it. Yep. That's it. Let's
go."
Tom set down Heather's shampoo bottle in exactly the
right place. "No smell, color, and if she tries to
redye to get rid of our permenant dye, it'll
*destroy* her hair."
Jena smiled devilishly. "Brillant."
"I know."
Jena turned to leave, but Tom left a little blue
surprise for Heather. And a little note.
********************
Heather was practically giddy as she walked into the
mess hall.
*I got everybody!* she thought happily.
She spotted Neelix and wondered if anybody got *him*
with a practical joke. His own expression didn't
give the answer away.
"Why, hello Lt. Whitney! How are you?"
"Fine, Neelix. By the way, gotten any pranks played
on you today?"
"No, I'm glad to say. Did you see Jena's hair? Or
Harry's?"
Heather smiled. "Yeah. I did."
Neelix went back to cooking as Heather wondered if
Neelix ought to be her next victim. She smiled evily
and dashed to the replicator. "Perfect," she breathed.
****************
Heather went back behind the counter to get coffee
then walked out. Neelix went back to his cooking.
As he pushed something around in a pan, a snake
jumped out at him!
He screamed a little Talaxian scream and jumped
back, before realizing the snake was fake, replicated.
"Well, that wasn't so bad." he said thankfully, then held up
the snake
for everyone to see. veryone either laughed or tried not too.
************************
Heather walked into her quarters, happy. *It's been
good day.*
Thinking back to the shower pranks made her long for
a shower. She checked everything, but somehow forgot
to check the shampoo.
After taking the shower, she happened to glance into
the mirror to see her own hair color replaced by a
bleach blonde color!
"Oh! You-" She cut herself off when she saw a blue
hairband and a datapadd lying on her table.
HEATHER-
TAKING A CHOCOLATE SHOWER IS *SO* REFRESHING! HOW'S
YOU HAIR LOOKING ABOUT NOW? OH, JENA SAYS HI.
YOUR FAVORITE HELMBOY
Heather's lower jaw set in determination. *I'll get
him!* she thought determinly, then spotted Jena's blue hairband.
She
smiled and decided to wear it. *Anyway,* she smirked, *Blue goes well
with
blonde!*
*******************************
Tom and Jena were laughing about the prank they'd
pulled as they walked back to Jena's quarters.
Jena now felt at ease with Tom, thinking that if Tom
was going to do something to her, he would have done
it.
*That* was what she was supposed to think. Tom knew
that if he was going to pull this off, she'd have to
be completely unaware.
"I've got to go," Tom said. "Stop by my quarters
later, I've got something to give you. About our
piloting lessons."
It seemed natural that Tom would be giving her
something refering to the piloting lessons she'd been
recieving for about a month. She nodded and told him
she'd be there.
As she walked, she saw Harry walking to her quarters.
On a sudden
inspiration, she whipped up fake tears.
"Jena, what's wrong?" He asked as he neared.
"Where were you?" She asked tearfully.
"Huh?"
"You missed my birthday party!"
Harry's face dropped. "Today's your birthday?"
"See?! How could you not know!"
Harry began to loook very upset. *This is too easy*
she thought.
"I'm so sorry!"
She responded only by beginning to laugh. "You are way
too easy to
fool!"
"What?"
"Harry, today isn't my birthday! I don't even
*know* my birthday. Those records were lost when my ship
crashed years
ago!"
He looked relieved. "Remind me if you *do* pick a birthday."
"I will, I promise. Sorry about this, but it as so
funny!"
He smiled. "I love your hair."
She smiled back. "You're getting better at this!"
************************
B'Elanna hummed to herself as she prepared for
"dinner". *This* was going to be good.
************************
Tom sighed as he went to his quarters. He had a vague idea
of what to do to Jena, but wasn't quite sure.
He entered his quarters and sat down, remembering the
Acadamy days when Heather had dyed her hair blonde to see how it would
look. The next day during piloting classes she had come up to him swearing
about how the dye hadn't dyed her hair the right color blonde.
"But isn't there just one shade of color called blonde?" he
had joked. Heather was about to start ranting when their piloting teacher,
Commander Shelterine, had started class. But Heather had gotten him
back by
giving him the wrong piloting course so he had been the last one to
complete the training mission that day.
*Those were the days.* he thought, chuckling, then
remembered that life on Voyager wasn't half bad. *In fact, I like the
'Voyager' days better than the Acadamy days.* he thought. Then he decided
to check his computer mail. He opened up the file and found that he
had two
messages. The first one was from Heather:
Dear My LEAST Favorite Helmboy:
*Very* funny! You should now officially live in fear!
Like I said earlier, I'm not done with you yet!
I had a very *interesting* talk with B'Elann :-)
I'm just glad that she wasn't the victim to your grande finale!
Then life in Engineering would be hell!
Anyway, I just thought I'd let you know that
I'm not going to try to dye my hair back again,
I'm not *that* dumb!
So I'm just gonna think about letting it wear off...
Love,
Heather
P.S. I wonder how your hair would look black ???
(Get the hint?)
He sighed, shook his head, and read the next one, which, to his surprise,
was from B'Elanna. He narrowed his eyes suspicously. *What does she
want?*
he asked himself. *She probably downloaded a virus with the letter
as
well.* he thought. He weighed the chances of reading her letter and
decided
to go ahead:
Dear Tom,
Just to let you know, the joke was *hilarious*
*Very* funny!
I've decided to let you off the hook this time,
But there had better *not* be a next time!
Anyway, I had a *very* interesting conversation with Heather
:-)
I agree with her.
You are *not* going to get away with anymore pranks!
Anway, the real reason I'm writing is:
Holodeck 2 - 1900 hours tonight
Love,
B'Elanna
Tom raised his eyebrows. *What?* he asked himself. But then he
smiled.
He'd go to Holodeck 2 as planned, but he would be ongaurd and would
make
sure nothing would go wrong. It was a date. Then his smile faltered.
In
*both* letters, they had commented on having a '*very* interesting
conversation' with each other., *Now what does that mean?* he asked
himself. He swore that he would get even with them if they did anything
funny. Then he groaned. Heather knew a *lot* about him, and vice versa,
since they had been good friends at the Acadamy. *Now just what did
they
talk about?* he asked himself.
************************
Heather walked into the turbolift on Deck 3. Her science shift
was
starting in a few minutes and she knew that Captain Janeway would pull
a
-fit if she was late. She smoothed her hair and sighed. She *hated*
being a
blonde! Then her hand caught Jena's blue hairband and she smiled. *It's
a
good thing that I have a medium-small head.* she thought.
The turbolift stopped on Deck 2 and Jena and Harry entered. Harry's
jaw
dropped open when he saw Heather's hair and Jena smirked, but then
her eyes
widened when she saw her blue hairband neatly on Heather's hair.
Heather just smiled and nodded. Jena's jaw dropped open,
"Heather.....Where did you get that blue hairband?" she asked innocently,
trying to cover up the fact that it was hers.
Heather just smiled and shrugged, "Oh, the same person who dyed
my hair
blonde." she said.
Meanwhile, Harry had been staring at her. On impulse, she said,
"Well, I
guess I should join the club. Neon pink, red with blonde highlights,
and
now blonde."
Harry managed a smile even though he knew that Heather had been
kidding
him as well as herself and Jena, "Very funny, Heather." he replied.
Then, Jena's eyes lit up, "I have the perfect prank for Tom!"
she said,
"We should dye his hair black!"
Heather's eyes lit up and Harry smirked, "Perfect." he said.
"And just in time for his *date* with B'Elanna!" Heather said
with an
inspiration.
Jena nodded and was about to suggest how when the turbolift doors
opened
and the three headed for their posts on the bridge. Captain Janeway
and
Commander Chakotay looked on in surprise as Heather walked onto the
bridge.
*First Tom and Jena dye Harry's hair pink, then Heather dyes Jena's
hair
red with blonde highlights, and now somebody has dyed Heather's hair
blonde!* Captain Janeway thought, startled. On impulse, her hand flew
to
her own hair, as if to feel if her hair was all right. Next to her,
Chakotay smiled. "Nice hair." he commented dryly to Heather as she
took her
place at the science station to the left of him.
Heather just smiled, "Thank you, Commander." she replied, then
began to do
her work while Jena exited the bridge after delivering Captain Janeway
a
report on how the Astro Lab worked for part of her school work.
*Now, how can we dye Tom's hair black before his date with B'Elanna?*
Jena
asked as the turbolift descended down the shaft.
************************
Heather had it. The best way to get Tom's hair
black. It'd be verydevious, bordering on downright
mean. However, Heather was sure sheand Jena could
pull it off.
*The I-Got-My-Hair-Dyed-On-April-Fool's-Day club
will soon haveanother member* she thought with a smile.
**********************
Jena couldn't concetrate. Even though she a had a
thesis proof essaydue tomarrow for Tuvok, she still
found herself looking at hermirror.
*Red. Red! Red *and* blonde. Tom, you *will*
pay!*
Her door beeping awoke her from her thoughts. "Come!"
B'Elanna stepped through the door, and her eyes
widened. "Jena! What did you....."
"Heather."
Torres nodded, understanding what had happened.
"Look at me! I look terrible! Getting her back
really-"
Jena caught heself and Torres smiled. "So you
*were* in on the littleplot that ended in Heather's
new "look". I don't know if she knows."
"She probably does. At any rate, *Tom* knows *I*
was in on his little chocoltae shower prank- long
story- and I *know* he's going to try to get back at
me! He wants me to drop by his quarters later-"
"I wouldn't worry about it too much, if I were you."
"Huh? Why?"
"Let's just say....he won't be *availible* later
tonight."
"Tell me," Jena said to her, her curiosity peaked.
"Did you think I'd let him get away with what he
pulled today?"
"No..."
Jena wondered what B'Elanna's reaction would have
been if Tom had continued with his plans.
"I'm getting him back."
"Aren't you over-reacting?"
"No! He knows very well that I *hate* pranks. I
hate them. Now, I'm afraid he'll have to pay."
Jena smiled. "How?" She asked.
Torres began to explain her plans, Jena smiling all
the way.
*************************
Jena left her quarters almost giddy. She couldn't
wait to see this followed through.
As she walked to see a few friends, she bumped into
Heather.
"Come on! Tom gets off in a few minutes!" She said,
pulling Jena into an alcove, explaining her plan.
Jena nodded and asked if this went against any of
Tuvok's "regulations".
Heather frowned. "You're spending way too much time
with him. Yes, I'm sure what we're going to do
violates several regulations, but do you think *Tom*
will tell that *he* got duped by a woman and a kid?"
Jena was about to say that Tom wasn't chauvinistic
but realized that though he wasn't, it would still be
embarassing to him.
"No. I'm in."
Heather smiled.
*****************
Tom walked back to his quarters, very tired. He'd
had to work and extra shift in Sickbay. Now he had a
mysterious date with B'Elanna.
*I don't trust that woman. At least not right now.*
He didn't notice Heather creep up behind him. Nor
did he feel the hypospray she pressed against his
neck until it was too late.
"Out cold." Heather said successfully, looking at
Tom's now-limp body.
"Let's hurry." Jena said, coming into view, carrying
two cans.
Heather grabbed one and began spraying Tom's hair.
Slowly his natural blonde color began to disappear
and his hair turned black.
They then dragged him back to his quarters (they
tried to carry him, but after they dropped him for
the third time, they turned to dragging.)
"So, he'll have to replicate a new uniform. This
one was getting old anyway." Heather said.
"And he'll probably wonder how he got bruises all
over his back."Jena commented.
"Not after his date tonight." Heather replied.
They laughed and walked away from Tom's quarters.
"*Now* he's ready for his date." Jena said, laughing.
**********************
Tom looked in the mirror.
"I *swear* I'll get Heather back for this!" he breathed,
running a hand through his hair, which was now black. He
sighed. There was no way that he would try to re-dye it back.
Heather had already taken care of that. And his uniform was ruined
and he had replicated it not too long ago.
"She'll pay." he muttered, "*Big* time."
**********************
Heather and Jena gave each other a high five. By now,
Tom would be awake in his quarters assessing the damage they
had done to his hair. They both walked giddingly into Engineering,
where B'Elanna was.
"So..." Heather said, plopping down on a chair next to the
chief engineer.
B'Elanna raised her eyebrows suspiciously, "What?" she
asked.
Jena leaned against a post and smirked, "One word,
B'Elanna, one word: *Revenge*"
"Uh-oh. What did you two do to him?" B'Elanna asked, this time
well aware of why Heather and Jena were so happy, "I still want to
get
*my* revenge on him, you now." she added.
Heather and Jena shrugged, "*That* remains to be seen. He'll
be onguard, you know." Heather reminded B'Elanna.
"Big time." Jena added.
B'Elanna smiled coily, "Not *nessacarily*." she said,
then walked off. Heather and Jena watched go. They looked
at each other and Heather raised her eyebrow, "I wonder." she said.
Jena just laughed softly in response.
**********************
Tom had been writing a conn. report in his quarters when
the doors chimed. He raised his eyebrows suspiciously. *Now who
could that be?* he asked himself. He stood up and went over to the
door.
"Come in." he said. The doors opened with a 'woosh', but no one
was there.
"What?" Tom asked, although he never finished his question
because he spotted a white box at his feet. He picked it up, all the
while
glancing up and down the corridor. He went back into his quarters
and sat down on the couch. He untied the red ribbon and opened the
package.
Something was folded in white tissue paper and there was a folded note
on top. He picked it up and unfolded it. There was a short message
hand
written on it:
Tom,
Don't forget!
Dinner tonight at Holodeck 2.
1900 hours.
Wear the swimsuit in the box,
As well as normal clothes.
Love,
B'Ela
That was it. His eyes, which had been narrowed in suspicion as
he
had read it, now widened in surprise. He racked his memory, but couldn't
remember
calling her "B'Ela". He normally called her just "B'Elanna" and sometimes
"'Lanna",
but never "B'Ela". He sat back and sighed, now more sure than ever
that she
had
some kind of prank in mind.
**********************
B'Elanna strode down the corridor of Deck 3. After laying the
box outside
Tom's quarters and ringing his bell chime, she had quickly jogged away
so
she wouldn't be in sight when he opened the doors. She stopped at the
turbolift, where Captain Janeway was also waiting for one.
"B'Elanna." Captain Janeway said, nodding.
B'Elanna smiled to herself.
The turbolift doors opened and Chakotay stepped out. He said
hello and
headed for his quarters. Although the time was only 1500 hours, he
was
tired. It had been a long day. He was just grateful that no one had
played
a prank on him.
Captain Janeway and B'Elanna stepped into the turbolift and gave
the
computer their deck numbers.
**********************
Tom snuck into Heather's quarters. He knew that since it was
her Science
shift, he wouldn't have to worry about her being there. He went over
to her
replicator and did a few alterations. He knew that when Heather got
off her
shift, she'd come back to her quarters to get some nice hot coffee.
Now
Heather would have to eat in the Mess Hall, and he'd already taken
care of
that.
************************
Heather and Jena walked into Heather's quarters, busliy chatting
about the
latest pranks on Voyager. Heather went over to the replicate, but when
she
asked for coffee, nothing happened.
"Oh, well, I guess I'll just have to endure another meal served
by
Neelix." Heather said in mock sadness. She wasn't *used* to the food
the
Talaxian chef served, but she *could* tolerate it. *Unlike some people.*
she thought, remembering the time when Harry had turned purple after
eating
some kind of soufle.
"Let's go." Jena said, and the two walked out the door.
************************
Heather went over to the counter and got some food. Jena grabbed
an apple
and the two headed for a table. They went over to B'Elanna, but she
was
busy staring at space and barely nodded when Heather had greeted her
cheerfully.
"Can't you tell something's on her mind?" Jena kidded, and the
two
laughed.
Then, Heather spotted Harry and the two decided to join him.
"Mind if we join you? We decided to leave B'Elanna alone with
her coffee."
Heather asked.
Harry looked up, "Go ahead." he said.
Heather took a bite then practically choked. She grabbed her
glass of
water and drank. Then she gasped, "I'll kill him. I swear it." she
said.
Meanwhile, Harry and Jena looked at her dubiously.
"What are you talking about?" Harry asked.
Heather gestured to her plate, "He *knows* how much I love sanapa
sauce!
He replaced it with five alarm salsa, I bet." she said.
Jena cracked up and Harry laughed while Heather folded her arms
across her
chest and looked on in mock anger.
*Sometimes life just isn't fair.* she thought.
************************
B'Elanna dressed in a black satin dress and high
heeled shoes.
*Perfect.*
She jogged to the holodeck and began to set up the
program.
"Nice, very nice," she whispered, surveying her
work. "This ought to be nice."
***********************
Tom put on the bathing suit under blue pants and a
dark blue sweater. He still wasn't sure *what* to
expect from Torres.
He walked slowly to the holodeck, unaware of Jena
and Heather following, trying not to laugh. He
entered the holodeck, and they took up positions near
the doors.
"B'Elanna?"
"I'm here."
Tom looked around. He was on a wood deck, near the
ocean, and there was a table at one end.
At one side of the table sat B'Elanna. There were
candles and food.
"Hi."
She smiled. "Hello."
He waited.
"Sit."
He slowly walked to the table.
"Is something wrong?"
"Nope. No. Nothing. Not at all. Why?"
She laughed.
*An evil laugh* Tom thought.
"Eat. It's not poisoned, nor is anything living in it."
He picked up his fork and started to eat the steak,
one of his favorites. All his favorites seemed to be
here.
B'Elanna ate as if nothing was odd. Fifteen minutes
later, she finished. "Well, I'm bored. Do you wanna
go swimming?"
"Why?"
"Why? What do you mean why? Oh, you think I'm
going to try to get you back for what you pulled
earlier. Well, I'm not. There's no way I'd sink to
your level."
A little more relaxed, Tom leaned forward. "And
what would "my level" be?"
"Low."
"Oh, low, huh?"
"Quite low."
"And here I'd thought I'd spent my time on Voyager
bettering myself."
"You have, but you're still very low."
"I'd hate to know how low I was before."
She smiled. "So, do you trust me now?"
He nodded.
"Good! I trust you are wearing the suit I gave you?"
He nodded again.
"I'll get a couple towels and-"
"You're wearing a suit, too?"
She nodded. "Get ready and I'll get a couple towels."
He smiled. Maybe he'd been wrong to doubt her.
She walked off into a small beach house that stood
nearby and came back wearing a black bathing suit.
Tom had changed into the blue one she'd given him.
"Ready?" She asked brightly.
"Yep."
"Oh, I forgot to blow out the candles! You get in
and I'll be right there."
Tom walked into the cold water slowly. "You should
turn up the heat in this."
"No. I think it suits my purpose."
He looked behind him. "Huh?"
Torres had changed into her dress, and she was
holding up his clothes. "Does the suit fit?"
He looked down and gasped. The suit had dissolved!
"How....Why?"
"You thought I'd let you get away with what you
pulled? No. Afraid not."
"Come on 'Lanna. Give me my clothes."
"Oh, you mean these?" She asked innocently. She
held up his clothes. "Computer, exit."
The door opened. "I *might* be back later. Maybe."
"B'Elanna!" He frantically called.
She slowly turned. "I'm not without mercy. Here,
have a towel."
She threw a towel into the water and he grabbed it.
"But it'll desolve when I leave the holodeck!"
"No. It's a real towel."
He frowned. "Thanks."
She grinned. "See you later!"
*First my hair's black, now this!*
*******************
When he thought everyone would be asleep, he walked
slowly out in his wet towel.
*Curse that woman for being so good! She
deactivated my clearance so I couldn't replicate
anything, and I couldn't talk to anybody!*
He frowned as he ducked out. He began to walk.
"Hey, Tom. Nice fashion statement."
Tom whirled, almost dropping the towel, to see Jena
and Heather.
"Uh, hi. Could you do me a favor?"
Jena yawned. "Sorry, Tommy, I've got a big test for
Tuvok in the morning. Gotta go!"
"Heather?" He pleaded.
"What? Did I hear you say something? I think this
*hair dye* has gotten into my ears...." She let her voice trail off
as she walked away.
Tom sighed. This just wasn't fair.
************************
Captain Janeway sighed and sipped her coffee. It was almost 0100 hours
and
she was still up. She yawned. She couldn't get to sleep, and there
wasn't
any caffine in her coffee. She leaned back and sighed. April Fool's
Day was
officialy over. But she smiled, *But can't a Captain play one trick
on her
crew?* she thought mischiouevisly. She opened the comm. system.
************************
All the jokes were over. The ship was calm, and
normal again.
Tom was just getting back to his quarters, having
had to doge a number of people. It was very late,
almost 0100. He crawled into bed, so very thankful
to be back, safe.
Suddenly a voice came over the comm system.
"All crew, suprise drill. Report to battle
stations. Oh, belated April Fool's Day."
Simultaniously, there came about 150 moans all over the ship.
*Life just isn't fair!*
*********************
Captain Janeway gathered the senior staff for a meeting. Everyone
sat
down.
"Well, other than the official meeting, I thought we could start
out with
who played what prank on who." she said generally.
Her crew looked at each other, surprised, then Heather smiled,
"I'm in."
she said. Everyone else echoed her words.
"Who dyed my hair?" Harry asked.
"Tom and Jena." B'Elanna said offhandedly.
"I know Tom and Jena pulled the prank with carrying my to the
holodeck and
running the ocean program, but how did you do it? Did you use the site
to
site transport or did you two carry me?" Heather stated.
"We carryed you." Tom said. Heather's eyes widened, "I didn't
even feel a
thing." she sputtered. Jena just snickered, "I kinda figured that out.
You
could have passed as dead. But you dyed *my* hair, right Heather?"
she
asked.
Heather nodded, "I kind of figured that I might as well get revenge
on you
as well as Tom for the ocean trick." she said.
"Speaking of that, you changed my sonic shower, didn't you Heather?"
Tom
asked. Heather nodded, "But I couldn't have done it without Jena."
she
said. Tom turned to Jena, who tried hard not to smile but failed.
"What happened down in Engineering? After lunch when I went down
there,
everyone was laughing their heads off." B'Elanna asked.
"Let's just say that Vorek had a 'bad computer day'." Heather
supplied,
laughing, "Ensigns Marlett and Chesly rigged his computer to 'reply'
to his
commands."
B'Elanna smiled.
"Who put the snake in the frying pan?" Neelix asked.
Heather smiled, "That was me. Tom, did you have any accomplies
in dying my
hair blonde?" she replied.
Tom nodded, "The one and only, Jena."
"Then you must have taken my blue hairband and left it in Heather's
quarters." Jena gathered.
Tom nodded, "Why not? I knew you were in cahoots with Heather
about the
sonic shower trick." he replied.
"Who re-did my programming?" the Doctor asked.
B'Elanna smiled, "That was me, although I made sure that you
still could
treat patients if the need arrived." she explained.
"Who switched the salt and sugar?" Captain Janeway asked.
"Heather." Tom said offhandedly.
"I did not! I swear I didn't. I..." Heather started to say, but
Neelix cut
her off, "Actually, that was me." he said sheepishly.
Captain Janeway raised her eyebrow, "Neelix, that's the last
thing I would
expect from you." she said.
Neelix shrugged, "It seemed only normal that I join in in the
day's
*festivities*." he replied, smiling.
"Who moved my furniture around?" Harry asked suddenly, leaning
forward.
Heather, Jena, and B'Elanna replied in unison, "Me." and everyone
laughed,
even Harry.
"Who sprayed me with laughing gas?" Tuvok asked suspiciously,
glancing at
Heather, but she shook her head and gave him the *Not me!* look.
"Actually, that was me. I was able to do it when I gave you the
duty
roster." Jena said sheepishly. Tuvok merely raised his eyebrows.
"Who dyed my hair?" Tom asked. Heather and Jena both smiled,
"We did."
Heather said and Jena nodded.
"And last but not least, who dyed my hair?" Heather asked.
"I did, but Jena stood gaurd." Tom replied.
Captain Janeway laughed, "Now that that's all settled with, why
don't we
discuss today's agenda and then all have lunch together?" she suggested.
************************
Captain Janeway, Chakotay, Heather, Jena, Harry, and Neelix sat
at one of
the tables in the Mess Hall. They had decided to all have lunch together.
Since both B'Elanna and Tom had said that they had *other* plans, they
all
immediately assumed they were going to have lunch *alone* together.
"...but still, I'm glad that April Fool's is over. If it were
April Fool's
Day *everyday*, Voyager's hull would be wreaking with chaos and havoc."
Captain Janeway said.
Chakotay nodded, "But you have to admit, it was fun." he reminded
her.
Captain Janeway just nodded.
"But still, I wish we could do this more often." Jena said wistfully,
scooping up some of Neelix's latest concoctions onto her fork.
Heather smiled softly, "You're forgetting something, Jena." she
said,
tossing her now-golden brown hair over her shoulder.
Jena stopped just before she took a bite, "What do you mean by
that,
Heather?" she asked.
Heather smiled again, "What I mean is, there's always next year."
she
reminded everyone.
Everyone at the table burst out laughing and Harry raised his
glass,
"Here, here." he said, thankful that his hair was back to its original
color. Black.
"I'm just glad that I'm a dark brunette again." Jena muttered
as everyone
started eating. She grinned. What Heather had said *was* true. There
was
always next year.
**********************
B'Elanna and Tom sat on Tom's couch in his quarters, having lunch
and
talking happily. They had both called a truce and everything was back
to
normal. No one was playing *anymore* tricks on each other, and underneath
the giddyness, everyone was glad.
"I'm just glad everything's back to normal." B'Elanna said truthfully.
Tom
turned to look at her with surprise, "You mean to say you call our
lives
normal?" he asked jokingly.
B'Elanna laughed, "You know exactly what I mean, Paris." she
said.
"You mean to say we're back to that again?" Tom asked, smiling.
B'Elanna
smiled as well.
"That depends." she replied mysteriously.
Tom just raised his eyebrows in Tuvokian fashion, "And what do
you mean by
that?" he asked, staring into B'Elanna's chocolate brown eyes. She
stared
back at him, then leaned in and they kissed.
