Breakfast Table at the Spellman House:
"Good morning Sabrina".
"Goo Morning my wonderful Aunts", Sabrina relied with a little too much enthusiasm.
"Well, your certainly cheerful this morning", Zelda picked up on it too.
"Why shouldn't I be? The birds are singing, the sun's shining..."
"And? Hilda cut in.
"And Harvey's going to ask me to the dance today", Sabrina finished.
"How do you know he is going to ask you today?"
"Well, I heard it from Valerie", Sabrina answered whil finishing off a piece of toast. She looked down at her watch and realized that time was getting on and she would have to be quick to get to school on time. With that, she gave her Aunts a quick good-bye and rushed out the door.
"Pathetic, all this talk about dances, it's just another place where I can get stepped on", Salem added bitterly. Both Hilda and Zelda looked at him and gave an amused scowl.
"Hi Valerie".
"Hey Sabrina, guess what? I have the most exciting news!"
"Let's see, your father won the lottery", Sabrina joked. Valerie gave her a look and said:
"No, we are both signed up to be on the decorating committee for the dance! Can you believe it?!?"
"The decorating committee, you mean someone actually thinks we have style?"
"Yeah, or maybe because no-one else would do it".
"That's probably more like it", Sabrina ended as Harvey walked up beside her and joined in the conversation.
"Hi Val, Sabrina, what's going on?"
"We are on the decorating committee for the dance", Valerie said proudly.
"Cool, just let me know if I can help". Without their knowledge, Libby had walked up and was listening to the conversation.
"You know your only on the loser committee because Elspeth broke her leg, that's right freaks, enjoy!"
All the trio could do for a minute was look disgusted. Sabrina spoke first:
"I can't believe it".
"yeah, neither can I, Elspeth? We were in line after Elspeth?!? The huge nerd Elspeth?" Valerie didn't want to believe it.
"No, I can't believe that Libby has the nerve to say that when she has toilet paper on her shoe!" Sabrina pointed and giggled to herself. What the rest didn't know was that with a point of her finger, she had in fact put that paper there.
"Hey, no-one said witchcraft couldn't be used for revenge", she said to herself.
"And that is our lesson for the day. Please review chapters 1 thru 3 for Monday", the teacher concluded. Harvey leaned over to Sabrina with a smile on his face whilst the rest of the class filed out.
"Can I talk to you for a minute Sabrina?"
"Yeah, of course, what is it?"
"Well, I, umm..."
"Hey Sabrina, we have to get some decorations are you coming, I could really use a hand?" Valerie interupted.
"Yeah, yes, I'm coming", Sabrina said. "So close and yet so far" she thought to herself. "I'll see you later then?"
"Yeah, after school at the Slicery then?" Harvey sounded dissapointed but also relieved. Sabrina left with Valerie, leavign Harvey alone. He looked down at a small pouch in his hand and gave a sigh.
Valerie, Sabrina and a few other girls were busy working in the hall which was slowly - very slowly - becoming a dance venue.
"Oh no, we've run out of tinsel", a nasel sounding girl stated.
"I think there is more in the supply room", Valerie replyed. With that said, all the anxious girls headed for the supply room leaving Sabrina to unravel some string.
"Oohh, this isn't working!" she was getting frustrated. And in frustrating times... Sabirna looked around to make sure she was alone.
*"With a point of my finger"*
*"and with no more of a dither"*
*"I want this damn sign"*
*"on the wall, just in time"*
she chanted softly. the sign jumped up and tied intelf to the wall. Sabrina gave a satisfyed grin.
"Oh my gosh, wa, wa, what did you do?!? I saw the sign, it, it, moved on it's own! You, you, you did it!!!" Libby's shrieks echoed in the hall.
"What? It didn't move on it's own". The rest of the decorating crew ran in to see what the commotion was about. "I put it there myself, I think that hairspray must be getting to you or something".
"I knew you were a freak and now I have roof!"
"this is terrible, this is terrible", Sabrina was saying aloud as she paced around in front of her Aunts.
"It's not so bad, just erase the tape", Aunt Zelda reasoned.
"Or...you could make the VCR eat the tape and then turn Libby into a cat!" Hilda suggested.
"Hey. leave cats out of this", Salem defended.
"I'm dead, I'm dead, maybe I'll just go and live in the woods, never to be seen again. Oh darn, I'm meant to be meeting Harvey at the Slicery! I'll see you later".
Harvey was getting nervous all over again. Sabrina was his friend, he didn't was to spoil that, he hoped he was doing the right thing. he doors flew open and he saw Sabrina race through them looking a bit flustered.
"Sabrina! Over here".
"Hi Harvey, sorry I'm late".
"That's okay. I'm glad your here".
"Me too".
" 'cause there is something I have been wanting to ask you".
"What is it?"
"Well, uh, well, I was kind of wondering if you would like to come to the dance with me. this is, if your not busy or anything", Harvey was blushing.
"I would love to! Thanks Harv". Sabrina looked at Harvey "This is better than I expected" she thought to herself. Harvey was searching through his pockets but couldn't find anything.
"I must have dropped it", he muttered to himself.
"What?" Sabrian thought she heard something.
"Oh nothing, just talking to myself".
"Okay, want to play foozball?"
"Sure!"
The Spellman family were sitting around the table eating dinner.
"So, Sabrina, did he ask you?, Zelda enquired.
Sabrina was beaming "Yep. The dance starts at 8, I better get ready". She got u and went upstairs.
"I remember my first dance, it was with Henry, oh, if only I knew what he was like beforehand", Hilda reminised.
"Henry?" Zelda asked.
"The 8th. What a grumpy pain he was!"
Sabrina was all dessed in an elegant light blue dress, staring at the mirror.
"What do you think Salem?"
"Hu hu hu, I wish I could dance".
"I thought you didn't like dancing".
"Did I say dance? I meant dominate the world".
"That sounds more like it. Have you seen seen my necklace with the little hangy thing?"
"The beaded one? Nope, haven't seen it". She searched around hurredly trying to find it when she heard the doorbell ring.
"Great, thats robably Harvey and I can't find my necklace!"
"Just go without it, you look great already". Sabrina was satisfyed with that and went down stairs. "I can't believe she fell for that he hee", Salem chuckled as he spread out on the bed.
"Wow, Sabrina, you look..great!" Harvey remarked with a huge grin on his face.
"Thanks! You don't look so bad yourself". Zelda and Hilda gracefully held back so as not to embarrass Sabrina..or themselves.
"I have a present for you".
"Really? What is it?"
Harvey pulled a little velvet pouch out of his pocket and opened the strings. Inside was a delicate silver necklace.
"Oh, it's beautiful, thank you", Sabrina's breath was pretty much taken away. Harvey stepped forward and un-clasped the chain. Sabrina pulled up her hair and he laced the trinket aound her neck.
"Shall we?" Sabrina gestered.
"We shall"Harvey replied as they left the house.
There were couples moving to the music right across the dancefloor. Valerie was dancing obscurely with her partner, Libby was fussing with the video and a tape.
Harvey and Sabrina were dancing closely, keeping in time with each other and the melodius music.
"Everyone, could I please have your attention? I would like to show you a video that I recorded earlier", Libby announced. the music stopped and eveyone turned to look at the small screen.
Sabrina ponted her finger at the video and gave it a wiggle. Libby pressed PLAY and the screen lit up. Suddenly, all the eyes were watching an old home movie pf Libby as a child; running around with thick glasses and wearing oversized high heels. The crowd erupted into fits of laugher. Libby's face turned scarlet as she started to scream through all the noise. It all became too much and she stormed out of the hall.
Harvey turned to his date:
"I have been wanting to tell you this for so long Sabrina, I love you!". But Sabrina couldn't hear, the music had started up and again and the bustling was too loud.
Zelda, Hilda and Sabrina were sitting on the couch. A stary look on each of their faces. Sabrina had her hand over her necklace.
"You know, maybe this mortal/witch thing isn't so bad."
