Grecia Colmenares was born in 1962 in Valencia, Venezuela. Her father
left the family when she was a child and her mother had to take any job.In the family
little Grecia was called Lola, but her full name is Maria Grecia Colmenares. Grecia began
to act in theatre from 9 years old, beginning with school performances. Her career began
when she was 11. In her childhood Grecia wasn’t allowed to watch television at all,
even after her mother has taken her to Television Company and she was given a small part
to play in .
Grecia married the actor Henry Zakka in 1978. Their marriage lasted only one year.
After the main role in the serial “Estefania” Grecia Colmenares was called
“a rising star of Venezuela TV”. |

“The success didn’t come to me at once”- says the
actress. There was plenty of proposals from different directors. Henry was very jealous of
them and it became absolutely unbearable.” Serial “Topacio” with Grecia
taking part went all over the world. In the United States, for example, this serial was
watched by 120 million people.Grecia moved to Argentina in 1986 and never came back to
Venezuela even as a guest. “My parents, my family always come to me. I don’t
like to travel alone and besides I don’t have enough time. I have to go to Europe on
business very often.”
She married her second husband Marcelo Pelegri in 3 month after their acquaintance.Grecia
couldn’t have a baby a long time.
Once, during her trip to Europe a stranger came up to her and suddenly said: “You
have to go to Milan and pray to Santa Maria.” Grecia was struck because at this
moment she was thinking about her baby. She followed his advice. Then, leaving the church
she heard the voice of an old man: “Good luck, you will have a baby.” She asked
the name of this man. His name was Jean Franco. And this name she gave to her son.
He was born on September 4, 1992.
Although he is very young he has already managed to take a part in the serial “Primer
Amor” together with his mom. “Mom, may I play with you in a film? I can cry just
like you.”
At present Grecia is living with her family in one of the most fashionable districts of
Buenos Aires, the entry into which is possible only with a special pass. She has two cars
“Mercedes” and “Porsche” in her garage. There are palm-trees and other
beautiful plants round the pool. During the breaks between her shooting the usual
Grecia’s day is of this way: in the morning she takes her son to the school and then
she goes to the Italian courses to learn the language, then she has dinner with her
husband and after all that she does what she wasn’t allowed to do in her childhood
– she sits in front of the television and watches the serials. Then after a while she
reads books and new scripts. The evenings she devotes to her husband and her son. |
