Chapter Nine Lucky was cleaning the stock room and just hidden the two extra cases that he had ordered when Liz walked in. “Lucky, I want to talk to you,” Liz said. “What’s up Babe?” Lucky asked sitting down on a crate. “What’s wrong? You've been acting strange ever since Christmas break,” Liz said. “Nothings wrong?” Lucky said. “You're lying. Now tell me what is going on? I told my story, can’t you tell me yours?” Liz asked. Lucky shifted uncomfortable and tried to think of what to say. Liz sat down and waited. “I have all day and I’m not leaving without the truth.” Liz was looking at him with her hands across her chest and a very determined look on her face. Lucky took a deep breath and relented. He knew she told him things she never told anyone else. So, why not give it a shot. “Mom didn’t get me anything for Christmas and that was the first time I saw her in over a year,” Lucky said sadly. “Why not?” Liz asked. “I don’t know. I guess she doesn't love me any more. I haven’t figured out what I did to her yet. Liz, I never told anybody this and I want you to promise not say any thing,” Lucky said. “I promise. What is it?” Liz said. “When, we were on the run. I think I was about five. Frank’s men almost got us and it was my fault. I didn’t tell Mom and Dad about the strangers asking questions. They argued that I might be better off without them. Dad wouldn’t hear of it but Mom wanted we to go live somewhere else. Liz, Maybe she didn’t want me around and that’s why she didn’t fight for custody of me,” Lucky said tears starting to feel his eyes. Liz heart broke for her best friend and she pulled him closer to her. “Lucky, I don't know what you over heard but maybe it was wrong. Did you ever ask what they were arguing about?” Liz asked. “No, but after that I did everything I could not to make trouble. I didn’t complain or anything. I even spent a lot time with dad to learn to survive like him. I love my father but I wish my mother could love me,” Lucky said and the tears and pain he had been holding in for so long came spilling out. Liz held him close and just let him cry. The teens didn't notice it but Luke had heard all of this. He didn’t know what to do for his son. He did know one thing; he want to kill Laura at this exact moment in time. He still loved her but what she was doing to their son destroyed any chances of them getting back together. Sonny put a hand on his shoulder and the two men went into the office. “I don’t know what to do Sonny. He is in so much pain because of Laura. I tried to get her to listen but she just isn’t getting it. I think she is trying but maybe it is too late and Lucky has lost her forever,” Luke said pouring himself a drink. “Luke, what about what Lucky said? Do you think Laura didn’t want him around?” Sonny asked. “I don’t know. I remember the argument now and Lucky was right. Laura wanted him to go stay with Robert and Anna but I said no. She told me it was for the best because she wanted her son safe and not dead. Now, I don’t know. Maybe she really didn't love him. He wasn’t her first born,” Luke said taking a drink. “I don’t know what to think any more. The Laura I met isn't the same any more. I don’t know what happened but something did,” Sonny said. “Maybe she just got tired of acting and is really this cold. I just wish it wouldn’t hurt Lucky so much. Sonny, he is avoids me and Lu. He hasn’t said anything about the divorce. I think Liz is the only one he really talks to. I’m glad she is around. My son needs a friend right now and if it isn’t me at least it is someone,” Luke said. “He’ll be ok. Lucky is a fighter and he has a good head on his shoulders,” Sonny said. “I know he does. Enough with me. How is married life?” Luke asked. “Great. Brenda is on a shoot and I sent Renaldo with her,” Sonny said. “Where did she go?” Luke asked. “Paris. She is spending time with Robin,” Sonny said. “How is Robin? I hope she understands about Jason and Carly?” Luke wondered. “She hasn’t said but I think she suspects the truth. I asked her not to tell anyone that Jason isn’t the father. I said it was Tony but only you and I know it is AJ. I hate to turn a kid over to the Q’s at any time,” Sonny said with a smile. “I agree with that. How is Carly doing?” Luke wondered. “Fine and Bobbie?” Sonny asked. “Still mad at me. I think she is coming around but it is going to take time. I really blew it by not telling her about Carly. The only reason I was at her house for Christmas was because of Lucky. Bobbie didn’t want to cause any more trouble for him. We have been keeping our argument from him. I don't want to put any more pressure on the kid than I have to,” Luke said. “What does Lucky think of all of this?” Sonny asked. “He says he understands but I don’t think the kid is thinking straight. I have him working for me to keep an eye on him. I hate to have him alone all the time. I think Liz is the only real friend he has right now. I know he spends most of his free time with her,” Luke said. “I heard he spends a lot of time down by the docks at night, talking to some boys. You want me to check them out?” Sonny asked. “No. I think we should just let them be. Lucky is smart enough to stay out of trouble and besides, I don't’ think too much of it,” Luke said. “All right and my offer still stands. I will put a man on Lucky any time you asked,” Sonny said. “Just keep things as they are. If they see Lucky around just make sure he isn't in danger but have them stay back. I don't want Lucky to worry about anything right now. He has too much to worry about already. How is our little project going?” Luke asked. “Better than I thought. Cassadine is having trouble keeping his empire and he is getting very little rest I hear,” Sonny said. “I’m so glad the count is having such a bad time. He messed up going after my family,” Luke said coldly.
