Chapter Ten After that day, Lucky and Liz spent a lot of time together. They talked about their lives and even started to have fun. Lucky realized at least when he was with her, he didn't drink and the pain his mother had caused him didn't hurt as much. A few weeks before the prom, Lucky worked up the nerve to ask Liz to go with him. And to his surprise she said yes. Lucky had to buy a new tux because his old one burned up with the house. He was going to rent one but Luke said he was going to need it for the nurse's ball anyway, so why not get one that fit his personality. Liz tried to get Sarah to go shopping but she was so wrapped up with Nikolas it wasn't working. While, Liz and Lucky got closer, the farther apart Sarah and Nikolas seemed to grow. They fought all the time and she wanted to go to the prom but Nikolas didn't want to. He knew Lucky was going and figured for everyone's sake that he should just stay away. Sarah didn't understand this and kept on pushing Lucky every chance she got. A few days before the prom, while everyone was in Kelly's, Sarah went too far and lost it. Lucky and Liz were sitting and talking about the prom and Lucky said he had a surprise for her. She had been trying to get him to tell her what it was but he wasn't going for it. Sarah and her friend Christina walked in and the girls saw the lovebirds and decide to join them. Sarah sat on the other side of Lucky and said in a fake sweet voice, "You don't mind if we join you?" "Yes, I do," Lucky said coldly and moved away from her as far as he could get. Bobbie and Ruby knew about Sarah hassling Lucky and hoped she would just walk out and leave them alone but it wasn't going to happen. "I'm trying to be nice. I mean you and I can be friends, can't we?" Sarah said. "What do you want Sarah?" Lucky asked. "I had dinner with your mother and Nikolas last night. We had so much fun and she even invited me to go shopping with her sometime. She told us a funny story about you when you were younger. She said you refused to sleep without a light on. Tell me Lucky you still scared of the monsters under you bed?" Sarah said coldly. "Sarah?" Nikolas said as he walked up. "I don't believe you. Lucky, I'm sorry." "Forget it, demon seed. You and your mother can laugh at me all you want. You got what you wanted but I don't really give a damn," Lucky said and got up to leave. Ruby had stopped him and slowly pulled him into the kitchen. Lucky hit the wall and tried to fight the tears. "How could she make a joke out of that? She know full well why I was so afraid, but hey maybe my mother wanted me dead after all," Lucky said, hitting his head against the wall. "Lucky?" Liz said as she walked into the room and pulled him to her. Lucky broke down and cried. The memory of why he was so afraid came back at him and he couldn't stop it. Bobbie walked up to Sarah and Nikolas, who were arguing. "Nikolas, get her out here," Bobbie said coldly and then turned to Sarah. "You're lucky little one, that you're underage because if you were older, I would shove those words down you throat," Bobbie said coldly. "You're like your brother. You're nothing but a bully," Sarah said taking a few steps back, while looking at Nikolas for help. "Enough! Sarah, I have had it with you and your mouth. Have you been tormenting him all this time?" Nikolas asked. "Nikolas, why are you defending him after the way he treated you?" Sarah asked surprised about his reaction. "Yes, she has and I'm sick of it," Bobbie said, "Get out of here Sarah Webber and never come back," Bobbie pointed to the door. "Nikolas?" Sarah pleaded. "No, you have been causing more problems than you have been helping. I don't want to ever see you again," Nikolas said walking to the kitchen to maybe help repair the damage that she had caused. Liz was trying to get him to calm down, when Nikolas walked in the kitchen with Bobbie close at his heels. "Lucky, I don't know what you think but we weren't laughing at you," Nikolas said. "Back off!" Lucky yelled pushing him away. "I don't want your pity. You and your girlfriend can make all the jokes you want. I don't give a damn." "Lucky! Nikolas was only being nice," Bobbie said. "You don't even know what we are talking about. Mom wasn't supposed to tell anyone. It was a secret between the three of us but hey, the musketeers don't exist any more. She went back to her first born and forgot all about me," Lucky said and then turned and stormed out of the room. "I'm sorry, Nikolas. He didn't' mean anything by this. Lucky is just hurting right now," Bobbie said wondering what Lucky was talking about. "You really don't know do you? Sarah hit a very sore nerve with Lucky about the past. You better go warn Luke, because he might need to know what is going on. I would hate for Lucky to do something that could come back on mom or even me. Mom didn't mean to tell us but when she did, she asked us not to tell anyone what she said last night. I guess Sarah couldn't wait to rub it in but now Lucky thinks mom told us on purpose and that is just making things worse with them," Nikolas said walking out and thinking he had to warn his mother before she got hit by this new event. ~~~~~~~~~~~ Bobbie headed to the club to talk to Luke and still was trying to figure out what was going on. She was really getting worried first from Lucky's reaction and then from Nikolas'. "What in hell happen to him all those years ago?" She wondered. Bobbie found Luke behind the bar and the place empty. She was grateful because she didn't know how he was going to react with this. "Luke, I just left Kelly's and we have a problem." Bobbie said. "What's wrong with Ruby?" Luke asked getting worried about his aunt. "Not Ruby but Lucky. Sarah came in and started to taunt him again. She didn't say anything that I thought was too bad but he really freaked," Bobbie said sitting down on the stool. "What did the little darling say this time?" Luke asked. "She said something about monsters under the bed and Lucky sleeping with the lights on," Bobbie said waiting for a reaction. "SHE WHAT! Who told her?" Luke asked all ready knowing the answer. "Laura. Luke, what's wrong?" Bobbie asked not liking his reaction. "I'll kill her. First she talked to our son and now she tells that little doll about the one thing that we never spoke about," Luke said choking on the last few words. He was headed for the door and Bobbie stopped him. "Luke, Please tell me what is going on?" Bobbie begged. "Later, I have to find my son before he does something stupid," Luke said and quickly left the club. ~~~~~~~~~~~~ Laura was heading down to Kelly's for lunch with Nikolas when she ran into him. "Mom, I'm glad I found you," Nikolas said quickly walking up to her. "I was going to meet you at Kelly's," Laura said and then realized he was upset and asked, "What is going on?" "Sarah said something to Lucky about what you told us. He didn't take it well and I'm worried," Nikolas said. Luke heard him and got even madder. He walked up to the two of them and demanded in a cold voice. "You told him, too?" "Luke, I didn't mean it. It just came up," Laura said in her defense. "It just came up! How does some thing like that come up? We promised never to bring it up. He was finally over all of it. The dreams stopped and so has the sleep walking. Laura, are you trying to kill him? If Lucky gets hurt from your big mouth, I'm going to make you and your little bastard here wish neither of you were ever born," Luke said and stormed off. "Oh, boy. I'm sorry mom. I think Sarah just made things worse," Nikolas said. "You think? She just destroyed my only chance to get back my son. Lucky will never forgive me for telling you or her," Laura said looking at the direction Luke had gone. "Mom, why is it such a secret?" Nikolas asked, "I still don't understand." "It changed Lucky and we decided not to tell anyone about it because when he finally put it behind him, we didn't want to bring it back up. Lucky was almost back to normal. We were afraid if we spoke about it that we would just open it up all over again. It took over four years to get the nightmares to stop. I don't think Lucky even remembers everything, but the stuff he does used to cause so much trouble that I wanted him to stay with Robert and Anna to keep him safe from any more harm," Laura said. "You didn't get him help?" Nikolas asked. "How? We were on the run and in hiding for our lives. We couldn't just walk into a hospital and stay in one place for a long period of time. Luke and I fought to save him and I blew it," Laura said sitting down on the bench. ~~~~~~~~~~~ Lucky and Liz were walking down by the docks. He sat down on the edge of the pier and starred out across the ocean. “Why did she tell them?” Lucky asked, tears falling down his face. “Lucky, will you tell me what is going on?” Liz asked, putting an arm around him. “I don't remember much because I was only five. We were in Mexico and someone kidnapped me. I was missing for over three months and after that, I had bad nightmares about it. I never remember the dreams but I always wake up screaming,” Lucky said, throwing a rock out into the water. “How did you get free?” Liz asked. “I just showed up on street corner just few blocks from where I was taken. I walked into a store and asked them to call my parents. I went to a doctor and got a check up. I wasn't hurt or anything like that but I do know something happened because mom and dad whispered a lot about what happen while I was gone,” Lucky said, looking at Liz sadly. “They never told you anything about it?” Liz asked. “No. When I asked, they changed the subject and tried to get me to forget about everything,” Lucky said. “Why not ask them now?” Liz asked. “I don't want to know. Liz, after all this time, I'm just glad the dreams are gone. I want to keep it that way,” Lucky said, getting up and heading back down the docks. Lucky slid his hand into his pocket and grabbed his flask. He was going to take a drink but Liz put a hand on his arm. “Don't. Please,” she begged. “It’s just a drink. It won't kill me,” Lucky said with his best sly smile. “I don't like the way you act when you drink. I like this Lucky not the other one. When you drink, you show off and try to prove you are this tough guy. I like the Lucky with the heart. Chris is wrong. You are not a goodie goodie but my best friend. So for me, could you please not drink? At least when you with me?” Liz asked him. Lucky looked at the flask and then her. “You're the only one who knows. Dad is hardly around and mom could care a less. Liz, you're the only one that noticed the difference in me. So for you, I won't drink. At least around you. But don't ask me to stop. It is the only thing that keeps me sane, after you,” Lucky said, putting the flask back. He gently grabbed her hand. “Lucky, what about the letters?” Liz asked. “I haven't brought them up,” Lucky said walking on. “Why not? Aren't you just a little curious to know what is the truth and what's a lie?” Liz asked. “No because if it is the truth, then what do I do? Hate the parent that gives a damn about me? What if he did rape her? What does it make me? Liz, I don't want to know because then I have my answer. I know then why my mother hates me. I'm his son and she sees me as him,” Lucky said, shaking his head and sitting down on a bench. “You couldn't hurt anyone. You're not that type of person,” Liz said, kissing him on the cheek. “How do you know? If my father could do it then I could because I'm exactly like him,” Lucky said sadly. Liz was about to argue that point but Luke showed up and joined the group. She thought it was best to change the subject. At least for now. “Hi, Dad.” “Hi, Cowboy. Are you all right?” Luke asked, leaning against the railing. “Yes and I hate mom. I guess you heard what happened?” Lucky said, looking at his father with sad eyes. “Yes. Your Aunt Bobbie told me. She is worried about, you as am I. Sarah is not worth the trouble, Lucky. She just wants to make you suffer because she doesn't like herself,” Luke said. “I know that but why did mom tell her and Nikky? I would rather anyone know but them,” Lucky said. “I don't know why and at this moment, I don't care what she thinks,” Luke stared out at the sea and wondered if he really was the cause of all of this. He knew Lucky had read the letters but didn't have the guts to even bring up the subject because if they didn't talk about it then everything would never be the same. He shook off the feeling of dread that came over him and turned to the teens. “I was going to ask you and Liz to join me, Sonny and Brenda for supper. You still up for a good meal? You haven't been eating a lot lately and if you don't start, Aunt Ruby is going kill me for not feeding you.” “We would love, too,” Liz said, putting an arm around Lucky and pulling him to his feet. “I guess you have two more for dinner,” Lucky said with a smile and the three of them headed back down to the docks.
