“The Course of True Love...” Part One “The course of true love never did run smooth.” William Shakespeare It’s nighttime in Port Charles. There is a light, cold April rain falling. The park is dimly lit and Katherine, not wearing a coat, is walking slowly and crying. She sits on one of the benches. (Flashback to last night) Katherine’s hair and makeup are done perfectly, but she is wearing a bra and a half-slip only. She is holding up two dresses, and then lays them on opposite ends of the bed. She continues to hesitate on which one to choose. Stefan enters the room. S: Katherine - You’re still not ready? We have to hurry. K: I know. I’m sorry. I can’t decide. You choose - which would you rather see me in? Stefan walks up behind her and puts his arms around her waist and nuzzles her neck. S: I like what you’re wearing right now. K: (giggling) It’d be a little cold - don’t you think? He turns her around and pulls her close. S: It’s making me warmer by the minute. They giggle, the kiss passionately. As he maneuvers her to the bed, he unhooks her bra. K: (stops kissing him) I thought you said we had to hurry. S: (between kisses) We do... We have... To hurry... He lowers her to the bed. (Flash forward to three hours ago) Katherine is in one of the many tunnels that run under Spoon Island. K: I knew I shouldn’t have tried to find a new way to the house. Ughhhh! As she makes a few more turns she sees light coming from a door left slightly ajar. K: Finally! She pushes the door slowly open and can see a painting of a woman. She enters the room slowly and moves quietly toward the painting. As she nears she can see that the painting is of Laura Spencer - wearing the dress that Alexis had given her as a “gift of friendship”. As she begins to realize the depth of what all of this means she hears a low moan. When she turns around she sees Stefan in a passionate embrace with Laura Spencer. K: (whispering) Oh, my God. She is now looking between the painting and Stefan and Laura. Her face is draining of color. Stefan spins around to see the horrified and hurt look on Katherine’s face. K: (a little louder) How could you? You.... Katherine turns and runs out. S: Katherine! (He looks at Laura) What have I done? Katherine! WAIT! He runs from the room to catch her. Laura is left there looking mortified. L: Ohhh, Oh, No! She’ll tell Luke. I’ve got to get home. Oh, God! What *was* I thinking? (Back to the present) Katherine’s crying catches the attention of a passerby. He approaches slowly. She glances at him and then back down to the ground. The Man: “Why Lois - what’s wrong?”
