MONDAY NOVEMBER 1, 1998

THE BEACH: Ben recalled Maria telling him that she remembered him being in the water with her. Ben realized that if he had saved Maria that night, he never would have met Meg. Meanwhile, it turned out that Emily's choking was an asthma attack. She felt better once she used her inhaler.

BEN'S HOUSE: Meg told Maria that she's going back to work. She was supposed to have taken a leave of absence for her honeymoon, but her honeymoon never happened. She tried to convince Maria that she wasn't angry with her, but Maria realized that Meg was upset because Ben stayed up with her after her nightmare. Ben interrupted his wives' discussion. He walked Meg outside, and she admitted that it was disconcerting for him to leave their bed to comfort Maria. After Meg left, Ben gave Maria some money so that she could be more independent. Maria asked Ben to tell her who they were when they were married, and he said that he couldn't do that, but he could tell her who he is now. He confessed that he shut himself off from life when she disappeared. Meg gave him more than love; she gave him his life back. He wanted to do the same for Maria.

GREGORY'S OFFICE: Caitlin accused Annie of being behind the phone calls. Annie had a fit of hilarity, then said that whoever called Caitlin didn't know anything, and was just hoping to upset her. The next time Caitlin's phone rang, Annie answered it and chewed out the caller.

Meg arrived, and informed Annie that she was coming back to work. When Annie needled Meg about Ben and Maria, Meg replied that she knew that Annie was upset because first Meg stole Ben from her, and now Meg has taken Maria from her. She left in a huff.

Annie forwarded Caitlin's calls to Gregory's speakerphone so that they could both give the caller a piece of their minds. Caitlin's phone got another call. They answered it on the speaker phone and the voice said, "Hush, little baby, don't say a word. Papa's gonna buy you a mockingbird. But who is papa really?"

SHOCK WAVE: Brad tried to convince Amy to give up on Sean. Bette overheard Amy telling Brad that she's going to turn Emily's world upside down. Amy tried to convince Bette that she didn't have anything against Emily anymore, but it didn't work. Amy fantasized about Sean leaving Emily for her. When she realized that the emerald hadn't hurt Emily yet, Amy decided that she wanted it back. Bette recognized that the gem was a real emerald. Amy told Emily that she concluded that the emerald really was too much, and asked for it back, but Bette wouldn't let Emily give the emerald back. Amy got fed up and left. Another freak wind blew up.

BEN'S HOUSE: Ben and Maria saw Meg on the beach. Ben went to her, and Maria headed out on a mission.

THE BEACH: Ben told Meg that he just spent half an hour telling the wrong person how much she means to him. He should have been telling her.

PETE'S OFFICE: Maria used the money that Ben gave her to hire a private investigator to investigate "Maria Torres Evans."
