WEDNESDAY DECEMBER 9, 1998

RICHARDS HOUSE: Gregory asked Annie to sign an insurance claim form for the Fabergé egg that she told him was broken the previous night, reminding her that falsifying an insurance claim form is a felony. She never got around to signing it. Olivia told Gregory and Annie that she knew who the blackmailer is. She said that she's heard about a professional prank caller who makes vague threats, but never says exactly what he's calling about. Gregory announced that he's going to start a charity for children who don't have any family support.

Caitlin found the blood on Cole's shirt, and wanted to know what was up. Cole admitted that he's involved in something dangerous and that he'll tell her everything once he can. When Caitlin told Annie that she wanted to tell Olivia the truth, Annie convinced her that the fewer people who know the content of the phone calls, the better. Caitlin told the blackmailer that she needed more time to get the money. They kept the caller on the line long enough to trace it, but the tracer announced that he was calling from a "blind number." Later, Annie wondered if Olivia was behind the calls. She didn't think that Olivia would be so cruel to her own daughter, but realized that Olivia would do anything to torture her.

ST. JOSEPH'S: Antonio and AJ discussed the events of the previous night. AJ left, taking Cole's bloody handkerchief with him. Gabi arrived and informed Antonio that she's in charge of the toy drive for the police department and that the church will be her office until after the New Year. He was less than thrilled. Later, Gabi told Ricardo that she'll be working from the church, and he remarked that was one way to avoid him.

A HOTEL: Ricardo arrived with a warrant to search her room for the rubies and caught Francesca in the buff. She covered her nudity with a towel, telling him that her coverage is metaphorical -- she had nothing to hide. They took Francesca's purse. After they left, they admitted that they don't have any evidence that Francesca took the rubies at all. AJ arrived while Cole was comforting Francesca. After Cole left to look for the emerald, AJ vowed to do whatever was necessary to get Francesca out of Cole's life.

SOUTH BAY GENERAL: Amy decided that she had to undo Emily's blindness. She tried to get Brad to steal the emerald back, but he refused. When Emily lost patience with her inability to find things on her breakfast tray, Bette told her that in order to learn something new, she first had to admit that she needed to learn. Emily had an MRI that didn't show anything abnormal. When Sean and Bette left her alone so that she could get some rest, Emily vowed that she wasn't going to be a prisoner of her blindness. Later, Sean went into Emily's room and found that she was gone. Outside, Emily walked away from the hospital.
