WEDNESDAY SEPTEMBER 2, 1998

BEN'S HOUSE: Ben told Bette that he smashed the painting of Maria in a fit of anger over her betrayal, but that he has since learned that Maria never betrayed him. He has decided to get rid of it, because his future is with Meg. When Bette asked him some questions about the painting, Ben told her that Maria intentionally didn't paint her face on the portrait, because she felt that what was most important was on the inside. Also, she painted herself in the swing because the swing was soothing to her. Bette suggested that Ben have the painting repaired and give it to Carmen.

Bette decided to hit Ben up for a scoop. First, she suggested that Ben and Meg get married on the Internet, but Ben refused. When she begged Ben for something she can print, he informed her that they were getting married at St. Joseph's. Bette reminded him that Ben and Maria got married there, but he said that Meg insisted. Later, Ben brought a man from a gallery to give an estimate on repairing the portrait.

JAVA WEB: While Tim was researching Ben and Maria's wedding, Sara tried to engage him in conversation. When she realized what he was doing, she told him that she knows he's up to no good and warned him not to mess up Meg's wedding.

When Casey approached her, Sara excused herself to help plan Meg's wedding. Casey asked her why she was avoiding him. He wondered if she was still upset about the kiss, because he felt like he has lost her friendship. She said that she's just stressing about the pictures, but he assured her that no more damage could come from those pictures.

Sean swore Emily to secrecy about his rapping, insisting that it is for his own enjoyment, not to sell records. She countered that maybe it would be good for others to hear his music. Sean was flattered that Emily wanted him to perform in public, but he still refused. Later, Emily asked Bette, in a roundabout way, about her difficulty getting through to Sean about his music. Bette advised Emily to trust her instincts in the matter.

Gabi and Ricardo saw Sara and Casey for the first time since the cruise. Ricardo took Casey aside to ask him some questions about Melinda's death. Gabi asked Sara about her relationship with Casey, which Sara insists is non-existent. Casey offered to help Sara plan the wedding. Gabi suggest to Sara that things may work out between them yet. Later, Ricardo and Gabi made a date to go to his place for dinner.

CEDAR OAKS: Despite Maria's misgivings regarding meeting Antonio, Meg persuaded Maria to go to St. Joseph's with her.

ST. JOSEPH'S: Gabi spotted the journal on Antonio's desk. He admitted that it is his "examination of conscience" and that it helped him with problems. She asked him if he has it out because he's having second thoughts about letting Francesca move in with him. Ricardo got rid of Gabi so that he can be alone with his brother. He apologized for overreacting. The brothers reminisced about Maria.

The wedding chapel overwhelmed Maria. When Meg went to meet with Antonio, Maria stayed in the chapel, because it made her feel warm and safe. Antonio was drinking coffee from a mug with Maria's picture on it, which promptly tipped over (picture side down) when Meg came in the room. Meg told Antonio that she brought her friend with her, and that she was nervous about meeting him, because she seemed to be afraid of priests. Meg and Antonio went to see Maria. Meanwhile, Maria was having an episode of some sort.

SURF CENTRAL: Vanessa thanked Tyus for curing her of Martin's Syndrome and allowing her to have a future with Michael. Alone in the kitchen, Virginia told Michael that she thinks that Tyus is in love with Vanessa. He knew that already, and insisted he wasn't jealous about it. Virginia decided, once again, that she, and not Vanessa, deserved Michael. After all, she rationalized, it was because of her interference that Vanessa got the cure for Martin's Syndrome, and so Vanessa owed her something. Meanwhile, Tyus told Michael that there's another side effect of Martin's Syndrome. In some cases, it rendered men sterile.

THE BEACH: Sara was served with a subpoena to appear before the special investigator prosecuting Congressman Blythe.

CEDAR OAKS: A nurse told Tim that Maria went to St. Joseph's with Meg.
