BURNING QUESTIONS
Week Of: October 11 - 15, 1999

Hello-o-o, beachbums! It's time for more Burning Questions! Last week's set didn't yield as many responses as there should have been... If ya have the time to read this, ya have the time to send in an answer! For, if you are breathing, there is a very good chance that you have opinions, and we here at Sunset Central are waiting to hear them! :)
WHAT THE FANS SAY...
1. Should Gabi tell Antonio that Ricardo knows about their roll in the rocks?

Sunset Beach Fan Cristine Campbell responds: "Of course she should. Lying has never worked for her in the past, does she have to alienate YET ANOTHER caring person in order to learn her lesson?"

"I think Gabi should not tell Antonio about Ricardo knowing because if she could keep the truth from her own husband then why should she tell the truth to Antonio," says Sunset Fan Kim Maxfield?

SBeach903 responds: "I think that Gabi should tell Antonio that Ricardo knows because then he can help her. on the other hand, she doesn't want to betray Ricardo again..but we all know he has something up his sleeve."

"And finally, Duante (that's me) believes that: No. It's not that I don't think Gabi should tell Antonio--I would. But I want to see what's going to happen if she doesn't."

2. Can you see Annie working? (No, shopping does not count as work.) If so, as what?

"Assuming prostitution is out.... Really I think Annie would be a great....Well, manual labor would probably be good for her character ... how about a career in professional wrestling," jokes Sunset Fan Christine Campbell?

Kim Maxfield responds: "I can see Annie working as a lawyer actually most lawyers have to be good at lying and Annie is one of the best so at least she went to school for this." "I actually can see Annie working. i think that she would be good at something in the business...or maybe politics (with her degree in deception) because she actually is quite intelligent and when she puts her mind to something, there is no stopping her," responds SBeach903.

"And as for my thoughts, I'm not sure I can picture Annie holding down a nine-to-five. Funny to see, I'm sure, but I just can't picture it. But I'd pay good money to see her take over the Liberty Corporation, if only to see the faces of AJ, Jude, Bette, "Tobias," everyone in town, and good ol' Livvy!"

3. Just what in the world do you think Derek is up to?

"Now that's obvious. He plans to murder Ben, Maria, Tess, Tim, and and live high on the hog with Ben's money and possibly Meg as well because Benjy is his son. Either he will pretend to be Ben or he will take over Benjy's fortune when Ben and Maria are known to be dead. (The rascal). Personally I hope he really gets it this time because Maria is a queen among women and is going to be devastated again. I only hope that she survives this and finds some incredibly cute, brilliant, and talented guy who adores her before the show ends," responds Christine Campbell.

Kim Maxfield says: "I think Derek is trying to get rid of Ben and Maria for their money but I think he is playing with Meg because he really wants her for himself."

"I think that Derek wants to make it look like Ben and Maria are dead so that the will and Ben's entire fortune will go to Benjy, in the care of Tess, so Derek and Tess can have all the money," responds SBeach903.

"More or less, I agree with everyone else here. I think that Derek has Ben bound and quite possibly gagged somewhere, and he plans to sleep with Maria, then make her watch while he kills Ben, then kill Tess 'cause he wants Meg, then kill Tim 'cause he knows too much, then live with Meg and Benjy. But--I have a funny little feeling (probably wrong) that this is not Derek at all. I think that maybe Ben DID find out what Tess is up to, and that she is involved with Derek, and he's come back pretending to be Derek to aid some bigger plan of his to shut her down for good.

4. We've known for a while that Eddie Cibrian is leaving SB for the already-running NBC prime-time drama "Third Watch." How do you think Cole will make his exit, and will you miss him?

Christine Campbell believes: "I think the original plan was for him to end up in jail. Then if his pilot failed he could come back. Since SB has been cancelled, perhaps he and Caitlin will ride into the sunset together. Of COURSE I'll miss him! I am, after all, a heterosexual woman."

"I think they are going to have Eddie Cibrian die from a mysterious cause maybe by someone he stole jewelry from or maybe he was set up by Gregory (Uncle Tobias) I also think they might do this in a mysterious way so that Eddie can maybe come back to Sunset Beach someday if they stay on the air," says Kim Maxfield

SBeach903 states: "I think that Cole will be killed and that is how he will leave. i mean think about it, Jude will obviously become a love interest for Caitlin, and we all know that if Cole just "disappeared" that caitlin would never stop thinking about him and would never even look at another guy. But if he were to die, then there would be no hope at all for her and him ever reuniting and after the painful grieving process she could move on with Jude. Yes, I will miss Cole very much. he's a great actor and a great character."

"And, I, Duante thought Cole would be locked up in London or killed by Gregory. I read a report *ahem*somewhere that said he'd become a fireman in London. But, of course, we all know what's happened now."

THE QUESTIONS

5. Do you think Sunset Beach will be picked up by another network? If so, which network? Christine Campbell sadly responds: "No. I'm afraid I don't have that faith." Kim Maxfield is more optimistic: "I hope and pray Sunset will stay on the air. I think possibly the WB because Spelling is having good luck with them now and Fox is having a decrease in viewers for 90210 on Fox." "I am not positive, but I am hoping that sunset beach gets picked up by another network and i think that if anyone does, it will be WB. I think they would pick it up because SB is a very teen-oriented soap, more so than say All My Children or something, and WB already has the teen shows like Dawson's creek, Charmed, Buffy, Roswell, Popular, and 7th heaven. Plus, Aaron spelling already has 2 shows on WB (Charmed and 7th heaven) so I think that they would very graciously pick up sunset beach," responds SBeach903. "I can't imagine not watching my favorite show every day, and I never give up hope, but if someone should save it...well, they've only got a month..." :*( 6. What characters/actors (not necessarily supporting) do you think the writers have been mistreating or neglecting for too long? Why? Christine Campbell responds: "Where to begin.... Antonio. His honesty and integrity made him one of the few people on the show who didn't act insanely more days than not. I loved his character as much as his smile. But boy has he been pulling a snow job on his brother. It's disgusting, although I still forgive him. But I can't respect and adore him so much. It's not that he slept with Gabi. It's allthe disrespectful lying. Gabi; she slept with her boyfriend's brother, lied to her boyfriend. Then she couldn't see it was time to 'fess up even when directly confronted. This character was far more absorbing as a redeemed soul than this way. Olivia (and Gregory): there is a TON of wasted chemistry and charisma here. I am SO bored watching Olivia with Annie. Watching Livvy and Greggie build up to a returning passion in spite of their own resistance would just GLUE people to the screen. Sara; best actress on SB, IMHO. Should get a passionate love interest and heroine storyline." Kim Maxfield responds: "Carmen has been neglected I mean they show her but can she possibly do something else in her life besides telling her children they are in trouble time and time again even though they won't listen (which makes no sense because she is right every time.)" SBeach903 responds: "I think that Vanessa and Michael have been neglected for far too long. I mean, they have like no story line at all. Sure Michael is gonna propose...but when? Sure, he's tried to and every time it's gotten messed up." And me: "Oh, where do I start? Well, if you know me, you know I'll start with Bette. I don't know why they treat her the way they do, but she does have a storyline now. (Yeah, NOW, of all times...) One submission said Carmen has no life. That is so true. What Carmen needs is a love life...perhaps an affair with Hank. Speaking of him, Hank and Joan are probably the most ignored characters on the show. They've both had rare opportunities to act out of the ordinary, so we know they can handle a storyline, but the writers are intent on keeping them the one-note characters they have always been instead of the fully-dimensional ones they deserve to be. They have the only functional marriage in town; that's gotta be a good springboard for something. Hmm...who else? Well, Tim's been wasted. I remember the days in the summer of 1998, when he knew that "Dana" was Maria, and he and Annie were flirting. That was the Tim we knew and loved. After disappearing from sight for some time, he re-emerged as some dense, lecherous lump who's letting Tess wrap him around her little finger. (As fun as that may sound...) Michael, Vanessa, and poor Tyus. Ever since they carted Miss Virginny off to the crazy house (more on that later), the entire African-American contingent has been left to languish on the vine as if they're idiots without her. Hello? Can you say "new troublemaker?" Or, it wouldn't be a crime to mix them in with everyone else once again. We see what's happened now; they're leaving. You'd think after Jason George and Sherri Saum got Emmy nominations and all, they'd keep them in good stead. Yeah. You'd think... And they've just messed Casey and Sara all up. First of all, Casey needs to get stop doing his one-note samba and get a wild streak, too. Then, he needs to forget about Meg. Two opening credits' worth of characters, and they don't even use half of them! And will SOMEbody tell me where Spike has been between Christmas and last week?! " 7. Who do you think was outstanding this week?
  • See who Suns et Central choose! "I'll choose for last week because it's only Thursday and Wednesday's show was preempted. I have to say Hank Cheyne. Boy, I had forgotten how sexy that man can be when his feelings are shown to us. I would sure love to see him as a romantic lead with Sara or Annie. He really was magnificent showing the different levels of feeling; anger, pain, fear, remorse, and steely vengeful determination," say Christine Campbell. Kim Maxfield agrees with Spotlight: "Bette was outstanding this week she hasn't had a big part in so long and I can't tell you why because she plays her part so well she made you want to cry when AJ stuck to Olivia like usual!!" SBeach903 responds: "I think that Clive Robertson was outstanding this week. I never knew how good of an actor he was until he took on the role of Derek again. The first time, I was just like "yeah, yeah he's got a twin," but I mean, everything he does now is so...different from Ben. His facial expressions, the way he walks, the way he talks. Everything. He is a wonderful actor." "My Spotlight pick was Kathleen Noone for her classy portrayal of Bette near an emotional breakdown. I was, however, just a step away from choosing Kam Heskin. Her good-bye scenes with Eddie Cibrian were nothing short of "heart-wrenching," as one submission put it. I wasn't so fond of her at first, but I've really come around, especially since Caitlin found out about her mother and Cole. I can't get enough of mumbling, bumbling, stumbling Uncle Tobias (the most tanned Brit I ever saw!), and I'm really getting a charge out of Clive Robertson's manic Derek." 8. What was your favorite scene/moment this week?
  • See what Sunset Central had to say! "The scene where Hank makes Gabi face the truth she's been lying about all along. The writers have been annoying me with that storyline for so long that, having started out a die-hard Gabi and Antonio supporter I have grown to loathe Gabi's behavior to an extreme. What a lying little *&%! I can still forgive her, but she sure showed a serious lack of wisdom and character. I just hope having it all back in her face will show her the light and she will change her ways and become someone worthy of Antonio. While Ricardo finds another girl who only wants him FOR REAL. Boy, what a moment when he made HER turn it on," responds Christine Campbell. Kim Maxfield believes that "when Bette told AJ about her real feelings it was really emotional." "Duante's Moment of the Week was Cole and Caitlin's good-bye and, to a lesser extent, Annie and Mrs. Moreau...together."
