WHERE ARE THEY NOW:

Rumor has it that Christina Chambers has been cast in the new MTV Soap Opera "Syder Web". Stay tuned for the latest!

CHRISTINA CHAMBERS
Character: Maria Torres Evans

So where does a soap actress in the making learn her craft? If you're CHRISTINA CHAMBERS, who debuted June 30,1998 as Sunset Beach's intriguing hospital patient Dana, the answer is church and the Bard.

"I started out doing church plays, and then I continued acting all through high school and finally got my degree in theater [at Catholic University] in Washington, D.C.," the Alexandria, Virginia native tells Digest Online. Since graduating, Chambers has toured with a Shakespeare company for several years, and done an array of regional theater productions. "I haven't done a lot of on-camera stuff, just a few commercials that paid for the theater work," she grins.

Although the actress was living in New York, the Beach casting director liked her reading so much, the show flew Chambers out to Los Angeles to screen test... for the role of Ben's presumed-dead wife, Maria. "I was thrilled," she says. "I had only been out to L.A. once for a week's vacation."

Chambers screen test partner was Timothy Adams (Casey). "He was lovely, in fact everyone was so generous, which made it so much easier," she recalls. "As I was sitting on my plane to fly home I got a call from my agent, [who said], 'Guess what? They really liked you!' " However, the actress was told she had landed the role of Dana, a Cedar Oaks patient who is harboring a secret about her past.

And while not working on Beach, Chambers is watching it. "The minute I found out I'd be auditioning for it, I started watching, figuring out who's who and how would I fit in," she says. However, it's not Chamber's first foray into soap opera viewing. "I used to watch General Hospital," she recalls, adding with a laugh, "I loved Noah Drake... Blackie [Parrish] was pretty hot, too. I remember Rick Springfield sang a rock song "Christina," I thought it was a song about me. Hey, I was 14, you know?!"

She was also a big Aaron Spelling show watcher. (Spelling produces Beach.) Her favorites? Beverly Hills, 90210, Starsky and Hutch, and of course, Charlie's Angels. "I had my hair styled like Jaclyn Smith all through high school, parted down the center, flipped back, oh, yeah...I was hot," she laughs. "My sister was in love with Paul Michael Glaser [who played Hutch]. We had a huge poster of him on our bedroom wall. The things I remember from watching those shows!" From SOD
