Character: Caitlin Deschanel Kam Heskin, who replaced Vanessa Dorman as Caitlin Richards Deschanel readily admits, "The amount of memorization overwhelmed me at first. I gasped, 'How can anyone do this?'" Although the actress has already survived the rigors of primetime television and film, this is her first daytime role. Heskin jumped right in, while her character jumped right into bed with Cole. "That sure was an ice-breaking moment." Heskin chuckles, "but my very first lines were with Annie. I came down the stairs and said, 'I want nothing to do with you!'" Heskin, at first, didn't think she looked very much like Vanessa Dorman, but upon rethink, confesses, "I'm very glad I do! I feel very fortunate - especially in a business that dismisses actors from auditions so immediately on the basis of looks - it's great to have a door open because of a similiar-type appeal." Before coming to the show, Heskin had seen SUN only a few times. "Now I can't wait until I see the scripts," she admits. "I can't wait to see what I'll be doing next, and I also want to know what's going to happen to the others, like Meg and Ben. I'm really into that story. And Gabi and Ricardo's story, too. - and what will happen between AJ and Cole!" Plucked from her plane back to New York to start working, Heskin eventually did make it back East, then returned to California a few days later. Though for the moment Heskin makes her home out of a hotel, her boyfriend, a New York restraunteur, recently came out and started looking for a place for her. "He's lived out here before," says Heskin of her boyfriend, "and he's ready to do something new. I told him I would buy him a surfboard if he stays out here with me, and I know he's holding me to it." SOM
