SUNSET in HAWAII By: Jeffrey Epstein Soap Opera News Magazine Dated: November 3, 1998
They may be enemies onscreen, but Sunset Beach co-stars Cristi Ellen Harris (Emily) and Krissy Carlson (Amy) have become close friends in their down time. In fact, the pair made a pilgrimage to the island of Maui in Hawaii when they discovered they both had a free week. "We couldn't waste a week off and not go anywhere!" says Harris. "It was very spur of the moment," adds Carlson. "We made the reservations on Thursday and left the following Tuesday. I've never done that before." While neither may be your spur-of-the-moment type, both had been to Hawaii before. Harris actually lived on Oahu growing up but had only visited Maui once before, and Carlson had only been to Oahu. The duo stayed at the Ritz Carlton in Kapalua. "A great hotel," Harris declares. "So beautiful." And even thought it rained the first few days, this made for some gorgeous rainbows," says Harris. It's the most amazing place I've ever been to," Carlson notes. "I'm going to live in Hawaii for sure!" she declares. "Sometiems you say you're going to live somewhere, but I'm really going to live there. I love it."

What Krissy and Cristi Said About Their Trip:
"It was raining during a lot of the trip, so the waterfalls were that much more beautiful," says Harris. "Then, when we got to the place where we could swim, miraculously the sun came out and it was really hot. So we just had the greatest luck while we were there."
The pair had fun clowing around with their camera during a two-hour snorkeling expedition. "We saw these incredible turtles and fish," marvels Harris. "It was beautiful." And Carlson, whose character on Sunset Beach can't swim, actually used to be a lifeguard.
While neither has mastered the art of horseback riding (it was only Carlson's second time), they decided to take a two-hour trek over a mountain. "We were on top of the mountain looking over the ocean where the sun sets and it was incredible." All the horses on the ride were named after actors, except one. "My horse was Leonardo DiCaprio," boasts Carlson. "Cristi's was Cindy Crawford, and was the slow one of the bunch because it was the model and everyone else had actors." Harris agrees: "Mine was at least 10 feet behind everyone else," she says. "Everyone was like, 'Come on, Cindy!' She was so slow." And apparently a pain in the butt, too. "My behind was much more sore than Krissy's," moans Harris.
They didn't keep the robes, but both Harris and Carlson (pictured below) loved putting up at the Ritz. "We had a beautiful suite," says Harris. "We had two bathrooms, a front room and a huge balcony where we could look out over the ocean, the chapel and the golf course. If you golf, it would be incredible. Even if you don't golf - I don't golf and it was amazing. It was so relaxing."
When an attractive gentleman (or a "hottie" as Carlson might say) asked the pair if they wanted to go out on a boat, they weren't about to decline. "It was awesome," Carlson says with a smile - except for when the boat's battery died. "We couldn't start the engine to go back and dock it to get off," Harris explains. "So a ride that normally takes about an hour took about two-and-a-half."
Ever bold, while eating at a sushi bar, Harris decided the pair needed to participate in the karaoke night (pictured below). "Every third song, we were up there singing something different," she says. "I'm a total ham," adds Harris. "I don't mind making a fool of myself. Actually I kind of like it! They managed to churn out Proud Mary; They Boy is Mine; Red Red Wine; Stop, In The Name Of Love and even Hotel California. "Oh, yeah, we did sing that song," groans Carlson. "That was so bad."
