It doesn't get any hotter than SUN's Eddie Cibrian's (Cole) career right now. He's on a roll, coming off of his scene-stealing appearance in the feature film Living Out Loud, that is almost as hot as his dimples. His sparkling big-screen debut helped him land another film role in Ignite
Productions' But I'm a Cheerleader!, with first-time director Jamie Babbit.
"I think that Living Out Loud gave me a good push, and I've gotten offers because of it," says Cibrian, who played a sexy masseur whose presence made a strong impact on movie audiences and made hearts flutter just from his brief appearance in the movie's trailer. I'm a Cheerleader! Stars Natasha Lyons, Clea Duvall (Robert Duvall's daughter), and Cathy Moriarty (Raging
Bull). RuPaul also has a major role as a gay man turned straight in this bizarre comedy. Playing against type, Cibrian portrays a gay man who remains that way no matter how much his mother tries to set him straight.
The premise revolves around a cheerleader whose parents think she might be a lesbian. After a "wacky intervention," she's taken to a very odd camp. RuPaul and Moriarty run the facility; Cibrian plays Moriarty's son.
"When we first see him," Cibrian says of his character, "he's a jock with a few odd habits. Soon we realize he's gay. That's why Moriarty's character is so obsessed with turning gay people straight."
Cibrian also points out that "these places do exist" and the wild and wacky screenplay is "based on a true story." He took the project because he couldn't stop laughing as he read the script.
"The shenanigans that go on made this one of the funniest scripts I've ever read," he says. "I could not put it down and I knew I had to do it. It's a very different character; I've never played a gay before. I had a lot of fun doing it. The film is a comedy, and there was not way I could go over the top, even as we were doing it seriously. Everything was over the top. I can take him beyond boundaries where I've never gone before. I've never had a chance to do that."
Doing double duty can be tough for any actor, but most of the filming of Cheerleader! Was completed during SUN's holiday hiatus with only a few days of work falling into the following weeks. "The show was really wonderful about accommodating me," Cibrian praises. "I'm hoping the publicity for the movies helps bring Sunset to the public's attention."
Cibrian, who is now considering taking on a role in a third feature film, admits that his career plans are a bit ahead of schedule. "I didn't think I would be doing feature films until I was off the soap," he admits, "but I'm so happy that I can be doing both." Needless to say, so are his many fans who can't get enough of this sexy guy.
