A Day In The Life Of:
Jason George

Soap Opera Digest Magazine
Dated: June 15, 1999

SUNSET BEACH lifeguard Michael Bourne keeps busy saving lives.
His portrayer, Jason George, is happy just saving room for desert

Food, Fans, And Focus While a club sandwich with honey-Dijon mustard isn't your standard breakfast fare, come 10:30 in the morning, George likes to chow down on something hearty. "On days when I'm working, the first thing I do is eat, and the last thing I do is eat," he confesses. He proudly displays the latest fan bulletin, which features a photo of him with Sherri Saum (Vanessa) and Dominique Jennings (ex-Virginia). "Everything in my room [is stuff] I get from fans," he says. George's gifts include a stuffed Winnie the Pooh perched on a table. "The dressing room is where I go to try to get focused. It's like home base."

Friends In High Places Between takes, George pops upstairs to the office of Spelling Vice President of Programming Kristina Smith-Espinosa. "She's like my big sister - even though she's my boss and could fire me tomorrow. I regularly stop in and chat with her to see what's going on and bounce ideas off her. The best part about Kristina is that I can talk to her about my career in general, outside stuff, personal stuff, the whole nine yards, She's really good people."

Wild Wear When he needs to pick up something special to wear, George drops by Hoity Toity on Ventura Boulevard in Studio City. Fashion Designer Ann Booth Luly is on hand to show him her latest work. "her stuff is just buck wild!" he enthuses. "Some of her stuff is too crazy for me, but I can always go in there and find something that I have to own."

Hoop Dreams By the late afternoon, it's time to burn off some stead. "I always have to do something active when I'm done shooting," George shares. "Sometimes, I go to the gym, hit the heavy bag or play hoops." Not that he's ready to take on Michael Jordan. "I maintain that I don't have tremendous game, but I've got great [defense]," he boasts while taking a shot in the part near BEACH's Burbank studios. "If I have a shot, nobody can stop me."

Study Session After supper, at around 10 p.m., George likes to curl up by the fire with a glass of champagne (sometimes, it's iced tea) and work on his script. "You do it in the most relaxing place," he says. "I have to get it in my head before I go to bed. It marinates in my head while I sleep. I don't take a lot of time to memorize my script. I'm lucky that the memorization comes fairly easily, as long as it's well written and makes sense. It's hard work, but it's always a joy."

Night Delight True to his word about eating from dawn till dusk, shortly after finishing his script (but before the "marinating" process begins), George helps himself to a little snack. "Every night, Van [George's fiancée] inevitably is going to throw on some tea, and you can't drink tea unless you have dessert to go along with it!" he laughs. "This can never happen directly after eating [dinner]. It has to happen a couple of hours after. I usually break out some strawberries and whipped cream, or ice cream, or sound pound cake. Something that if I had a trainer, he'd smack me on the back of the head for eating."
