“I was scared on my first day,” Noone confides. “ALL MY CHILDREN was my first leasing, contract role. Francesca James [ex-Kitty/Kelly, former executive producer} welcomed me to the show and it meant a lot. I also have to acknowledge [CBS Casting Director] Mary Norton, who kept me alive in daytime.”
Noone raves about several of her AMC co-stars. “Robert Gentry [ex-Ross] was wacky, crazy and wonderful,” she grins. “He had a great spirit. And Lauren Holly [ex-Julie], who played my daughter, was great fun. She wanted to come in, do it right, learn.”
“Mark LaMura [ex-Mark] was also great to work with. He was wonderful and spontaneous.”
“Some of the material Ellen was given was so powerful,” acknowledges the actress, “and I couldn’t have worked with better actors. I was working with extraordinary people and the material and actors just came together.”
Not that AMC was all work and no play, Noone hastens to add. “We were realy good at pulling practical jokes,” she recalls. “Some cornflakes during a love scene! And one time, Mark took the hand off a mannequin and put it over my shoulder instead of his hand.”
“I have great fond memories of my time at ALL MY CHILDREN,” smiles Noone. “My character handled a lot of social issues, like [on-screen daughter] Devon’s teenage prenancy, being a single mom and being an older woman with younger men. A lot of these stories broke ground and I always felt proud to be given stories with substance.”
“ALL MY CHILDREN was a very important part of my life. It was a great experience. What a wonderful way to start out!”
