Sunset Beach January 6, 1997 - December 31, 1999 Well, folks, it's over. No more "Sunset Beach." Everyone associated with the show has moved on, and it's passed by just as quickly as it came. And everyone deserves a big cheer for all the hard work they put in. So, every few days, we'll be spotlighting a different cast member, starting in alphabetical order with the cast, then some of the bigger recurring characters, and then moving on to crew. We are now cast member #12. To review past spotlights visit: Spotlight Archives. |
LESLEY-ANNE DOWN Character: Olivia Blake Richards Olivia Richards, the diva of Sunset Beach. Regal, superior, sarcastic, and strong, yet human, loving, kind, and sometimes weak. Every feeling, Livvy did them all. She was romantic early in her relationship with AJ, and a subdued form thereof whenever she was with Gregory. She was lustful when she got stuck in an elevator with a Niagra-filled Gregory. She was outraged when Francesca let her secret about sleeping with Cole spill. She was overjoyed when her children came home to her in the last episode. And these are just some of them. Lesley was just incredible. Whatever the task, she rose to the occasion and made it unforgettable. Who remembers when the gun used to shoot Francesca had been planted in Bette's house and she and Olivia found it just as Ricardo and SB's finest were bamming at the door? I will never forget how Lesley just cut loose and went wild as Livvy's nerves just completely went and she and Bette panicked and threw the gun into Bette's turkey! That was crazy! Olivia didn't usually get to be funny outside of the dry, dry wit she was always armed with, but when she got the chance, Lesley rolled up her sleeves and dived in head first. Just like the time during the Rosario Jewels story when she literally tackled Francesca in the middle of LAX and nearly beat the stuffing out of her right there on the floor over the jewels. And I couldn't salute Lesley without giving mention to her fine portrayal of Olivia in the grip of alcoholism. Every day she turned in a sterling performance as Olivia's drinking tore apart her friendship with Bette, her relationship with AJ, her family, and for a moment, her life. She was just exemplary. During the three years our show was on the air, Olivia ran the full gauntlet of emotions, and each one was better than the last. Duante
