Chapter 14

Later that night Brenda and Sonny go to see Jessi after she is moved.
Brenda goes in first.
B: Walks in, halfway through the doorway she stops. “Jessi, honey.”
Brenda smiles when she sees Jessi sleeping.
She looked so peaceful. She turns to Sonny who is behind her. “Shhh.
She’s asleep.”
S: Walks in behind Brenda and looks at Jessi. He smiles. “She looks
like an angel sleeping so quietly.”
B: Walks over to a chair by the bed and sits down. Sonny follows her
and stands behind the chair. “She is my angel. I don’t know what I
would do if I lost her, too.”
S: “Like you lost me?”
B: Turns to look at him and quietly and distantly says, “Yeah, like I
lost you.” She turns back around to look at Jessi.
S: Kneels down to the side of Brenda’s chair. He places his hand
softly on Jessi’s face and runs his fingers down her cheek. She stirs
slightly but doesn’t wake up. He turns to Brenda. “She’s beautiful,
like her mother.”
B: “She definitely looks like you, not me.” They sit in silence for
awhile watching Jessi sleep. Brenda breaks the silence. “I named her
after you. Jessica Michelle Corinthos.”
S: Looks up. A little surprised, then he smiles. “Thank you. I like
it.”
B: “At the time I thought that if I gave her your name that your spirit
and name would live on.”
S: Takes both of Brenda’s hands and looks into her eyes, in which
tears have started to form. “Brenda, I’m sorry. This wasn’t how things
were supposed to turn out. I’m sorry for all the pain I’ve caused you
and Jessi over the years. I love you Brenda you’ve got to believe
that. I did everything for you and in turn for our daughter.”
B: “Why Sonny? Why did you go? Why did you leave me behind?” She
starts to cry
S: “Is that what you think? That’s not what happened”
B: “Then what happened?
S: “I can’t tell you yet.”
Brenda calmly, almost too calm, gets up and heads for the door.
S: “Where are going?”
B: In a harsh whisper and a few tears falling down her face. “This
conversation is going nowhere but into a probable argument. I’m not
waking Jessi up because you can’t trust me with your whereabouts for the
last ten years.” She walks out the door. Sonny gets up and follows
her out.
S: Outside the room Sonny tries to explain to Brenda. “Brenda, I didn’t
say I didn’t trust you.”
B: “That’s not the way it sounded to me. You know ever since I saw you
today, I felt like I could handle anything. You were here. You
weren’t in my dreams, you were real. I thanked God that my prayers were
answered. Then I started thinking, where have you been? Why would you
leave? What am I supposed to think? And now you can’t even tell me
where the h*ll you’ve been!”
S: Goes to her and tries to put his arms around her. “Brenda it’s
not…” She steps away from him and he retreats backwards. “….It’s not
that I don’t want to tell you, I just can’t. Not yet. I will soon.
It’s still too dangerous.”
B: “We’re have I heard that before? That’s what you’ve always told me
when you were lying. I need to lie to you to protect you. God, I hate
those words. They’re what got me here tonight in the first place. I’ve
been doing the same thing to Jessi since the day she was born. She
hates it as mcuh as I do. What are you going to tell her when she
asks?”
S: “I don’t know. I haven’t thought that far yet.”
B: “You better start thinking fast. She will be asking questions in
the morning.” With that Brenda turned and walked away.
S: “Where are you going this time?”
B: “For a walk. Don’t follow me.”
The gang, who had watched the whole thing, didn’t know what to do.
Sonny wasn’t even here a whole day and he’d already had a fight with his
wife. Lois went after Brenda. Julia walked up to Sonny and slapped
him.
S: ‘What was that for? What have I done to you?’
J: “You stay away from my family. My sister and niece have been
through enough, they don’t need you complicating their lives. Go back
under whatever rock you crawled out of.” With that she turned and went
after Lois and Brenda.
Sonny turns to Mike who had come over to him.
S: “Julia?”
M: “Yeah. She hates you with a passion.”
S: Rubbing his cheek. “I can tell. I’m not staying away. They’re my
family too.”
M: “I know. She knows too. She’s just afraid that you’ll hurt them.”
S: “I wouldn’t do that intentionally. Where’s Clive? I need to talk
to him.”
M: “Over there.” Points to Clive and Sonny goes over there.
S: “We need to talk now, outside.” Clive nods. They get Jason and
head outside in the opposite direction that Brenda headed.

Chapter 15

Outside Brenda is talking to Lois and Julia.
B: “What have I done? He’s really here. Why couldn’t I just accept
that he was alive and leave it at that? Instead I go get into an
argument with him.
L: “Brenda, it’s your fault that he won’t tell you anything. He’ll
tell you when he’s ready.”
B: “I know, but why is it always on his terms? I can’t ever know
anything until he lets me know it.”
L: “That’s just the way he is. Always has been.”
J: “Bren, why do you let him do this to you? He either lies to you or
won’t open up to you and you get all upset. Why do that to your self?”
B: “I used to ask myself that all the time. I don’t know Julia, I
really don’t.”
L: “Plain and simple, you love him. “
B: Smiles at the thought. “Yeah, I do, but he can make me so angry at
times.”
L: “That’s because he is a man.”
J: “He’s a man that’s no good for you, Bren.”
B: “Jules, I know your worried, but Sonny’s my problem, not yours.
Besides he’s still my husband and Jessi’s father. I can’t forget that,
and you can’t do anything about it.”
J: “I know, but if he does anything to hurt you or Jessi, he’ll have to
answer to me.”
L: “I think he knows that. You gave him a pretty good slap before I
left the room.”
B: “You slapped him?”
J: “He deserved it. He was upsetting you when you were already upset
about Jessi.”
B: “I would have loved to see that one. How did he react to Tornado
Julia?
J: “He was a bit shocked. I don’t think he knows what hit him.”
L: “Oh I think he does. He’s used to me sticking it to him about he
should treat Brenda. Now he’s got you and me. With both of us after
him, he better behave or he should fear for his life.”
B: Laughs at Lois. “Thanks guys. I’m glad someone will stick up for
me. I gotta get back to Jessi. If you see Sonny, tell him I don’t wan
to see him until he’s ready to talk to me.
Brenda leaves Julia and Lois by themselves and heads for Jessi’s room.
J: “If I see him, he better run in the opposite direction.”
L: “Wait till I get my hands on him. The nerve of him for making us
believe he was dead and deciding to show up ten years later. He better
have a good explanation..
Lois and Julia walk back to the waiting room in silence.

********************************************************************************************

Sonny , Clive, and Jason are also outside, but someplace else,
conversing.
J: “Am I going to get an explanation of what is going on sometime
soon?”
S: “Yes. “
C: “First I need Jason to promise me something.”
J: “What is ist?”
C: “My assingment with Sonny is over. I can’t watch over him anymore.
I don’t want to leave him here without protection, especially with my
niece around.”
J: “You want me to protect him?”
S: “I can protect myself.”
C: “No you can’t Sonny. You haven’t been around for ten years. You
don’t know what’s been happening in Jason’s territory since he’s been
gone. You don’t know his business associates and enemies are going t
react to you being back. Especially since you are now legit and that
you helped put some of the biggest crime lords in the West Indies and
South America in prison.”
J: Eyes get wide. “Sh*t. You did what!? What the h*ll were you
thinking!? Lots of money was lost in several organizations when they
wer put away. People aren’t just going to have a bad reaction, they’re
going to shoot you on site!”
S: “They don’t have to find out.”
C: “No, they don’t, but that doesn’t mean they won’t. They’ll be
wanting to know where you’ve been. What are you going to tell them?
If you tell them the truth you’re a dead man. If you lie, they’ll find
out eventually if they dig around the right places for information and
you’re still a dead man. And now you have a family that they can go
after. You can’t do this alone Sonny. You need back up.”
S: Thinking about Jessi and Brenda, he feels desparate. What had he
gotten them into? “If I’m still in so much danger than why did you let
me come back?”
C: “That wasn’t my decision. The FBI doesn’t have any use for you
anymore. I’ve been taken off your case. I couldn’t get funding to go
through to keep you in protection any longer especially since your
original deal was to be able to go home when everything was over.”
S: “I wanted to go home if it was safe for my family and friends not if
it was convenient for FBI. You’re going to leave me in the middle of a
war zone! You should have just left me with the madman. I was already
dead to everyone else and I was close to death itself there. I t would
have saved a lot trouble.”
J: “Madman?”
S: “Some cousin of Hernando’s had me in a dirty hospital where I kept
getting infection after infection and when I was released he kept me in
solitary confinement in his basement. It was h*ll.”
J: “How did you get involved with him (points to Clive), then?”
C: “We found him when we did a raid on Rivera’s house. We offered him
a deal to help us get the drug lords out of the rest of the West Indies
and South America.”
J: “Why would you agree to that? You should have known you would be a
dead man.”
S: “I was desparate at the time. I wanted revenge on anyone who had
ever dealt with the Riveras. Since they dealt with drugs, I knew that
other operations that they worked with did to. Anyways what the Clive
here left out was that the FBI wanted to arrest me on the spot and throw
me in jail for life. It seems that they found the evidence that I used
filthy money to pay Sone’s bills and that the money had been going into
some of my other business ventures. Hernando must have kept it and
given it to his cousin My choices were to go to jail and live through
more h*ll or to help them and have a possibility to be free again.
Obviously I chose the latter. I had no idea it would take so d*mn long!

C: “You’re alive aren’t you? You still have you wife and beautiful
daughter.”
S: “I’m alive, but for how long? My wife’s angry at me and my daughter
is scared of me. I would have been better off if I just stayed dead.”
C: “Maybe, but you’re here now and we have to discuss what to do in
case of an emergency. You going to help Jason?”
J: “Of course I will, but I’m not sure there’s much I can do. All
h*ll’s going to break lose if this hits the fans.”
C: “That’s exactly why we need to come up with some plans.”

********************************************************************************************

Later on, when it’s about one in the morning, Sonny, Jason, and Clive
are done talking at the moment. They head to the waiting room.
Everyone’s gone home except Mike.
M: “Where did you guys disappear to?”
S: “We had to discuss some things. Where’s Brenda and how is Jessi?”
M: “Brenda’s sleeping in a chair in Jessi’s room. We tried to get her
a cot, but she wouldn’t take it. Jessi’s still doing okay.”
S: “Can I go in there?”
M: “Brenda says she doesn’t want to talk to you until you explain thngs
to her, but she didn’t object to Bobbie putting an extra chair in the
room for you. So, yeah you can go in there.”
S: “Thanks.” Heads for the hospital room.
M: “Michael.” Sonny turns around. “Don’t mess it up like I did. You
have a good wife and kid. Talk things through. Please don’t be like
me.”
S: “I don’t intend to be like you, Dad. Thanks, though.” He goes and
walks into the room, thinking if everything runs smoothly, I won’t have
to.”

******************************************************************************************

Once in the room he sits in the chair that was in the corner. H e
wanted to move it closer to Jessi and Brenda, but he didn’t want to ruin
his chances with them. He was lucky enough that Brenda allowed him in
the room. He watches his girls sleep for hours before he drifted off
himself.

*******************************************************************************************

Chapter 16

It’s morning time. Brenda is still sleeping in the chair. Jessi is
sleeping, but won’t be for long. Sonny is awake and looking out the
window. The scene is like this for a couple of minutes until Jessi
begins to stir she wakes up and sees her mom asleep in the chair.
J: “Mom, are you awake?” She doesn’t get an answer. “I guess not.”
Sonny hears her and turns around. He just watches her. She lies there
for a few minutes then starts to get out of bed.
S: “Hey, where do you think you’re going?”
J: Looks up and is a little startled to see Sonny there, then blushes
because he caught her. Then timidly says, “I….uh…was just hungry.
I was going to go find someone who could get me something.”
S: Thinking that the little blush she had when she realized she’d been
caught was one of most beautiful things he’d ever seen. “You don’t
have to go anywhere.” He goes over to the bed, pulls the cover back and
motions for her to get back under the covers. Not really sure what she
should do, she looks at him questioningly and does get back under the
covers. “You see that little button ?” She nods yes. “If you push
that someone will come and help you.”
J: A little excited at the prospect of just a touch of a button and
someone would be in the room. “Really?” She smiles and squeals a
little.
S: Smiles at her excitement. She must have got that from Brenda he
thought. “Yeah. Try it and see. Keep it quiet, though your mother
still asleep.”
J: “Okay.” She replies in a whisper. She excitedly pushes the button
and waits patiently for someone to enter the room. A few minutes later
the town gossip, Amy enters. As she does, Jessi looks at Sonny and
says,”Wow. That was cool.”
S: “I told you it would work.”
A: Is looking down at a chart as she comes in. “What would work, Miss
Jessi Corinthos?” Looks up and sees Sonny. “Oh My God!! Sonny
Corinthos!!” As she says this Bobbie walks in and Brenda wakes up.
B: “Amy haven’t you heard? Sonny’s alive and back. It’s been the talk
of the hospital all night. I’m surprised you haven’t heard yet.”
A: “No one informed me.” Turns to Jessi a bit miffed that she wasn’t
the first to find out about this juicy bit of gossip. “Jessi, you
wanted something?”
J: “Yeah.” Looks at Sonny. What should she call him? She’d always
called him Daddy, but would he like that? “Uh, he said that if I push
this button you would come in here. It worked. I was wondering if I
could get some breakfast.”
A: “You sure can. Here fill out this piece of paper and the breakfast
cart will bring you what you want. (I’m not sure if all hospitals work
like this, but the one I’ve been in give you a piece of paper with a
couple of choices to pick your meal from or to specify if you are on
some kind of diet.)” Amy hands her a piece of paper with of a couple of
breakfast choices. “How are you feeling this morning?” Amy goes on the
check her vital signs.
J: “I have a little headache, but I feel fine.”
A: “Well it looks like everything is okay. Let me go get you something
for your headache. You can give that paper to your Grandma when you are
done or you can give it to me when I come back.”
J: “Okay.” Amy leaves the room. “Grandma, where’s Grandpa?”
Bo: “He had to work honey. He’ll come by later with Michael.”
S: “Michael?”
Bo: “Carly and AJ’s little boy.”
S: “Oh.”
Br: “Honey if you want breakfast, you better fill out that paper. Want
some help?”
J: “No, I think I have it finished.” She hands it to Bobbie who takes
it.
Bo: “I’ll see what I can do for you.” Bobbie leaves the room.
Jessi notices that things are quiet once the guests have left her room.
She feels a little uncomfortable with the silence.
J: Trying to break the silence. “Okay guys guess what I ordered for
breakfast.”
B: “I don’t think that Frosted Flakes is available so my guess would be
oatmeal.”
J: “That’s right.”
S: “You like oatmeal?”
J: Turns to face Sonny. “Yeah, do you?”
S: “No. I don’t think your mother does either.”
B: “I don’t, but Bobbie makes it for her sometimes when she visits
them. She loves it.”
J: “I also ordered toast with jam.”
B: Smiles. “I’ll let Daddy guess what kind of jam you picked.” She
looks over Jessi’s head and gives Sonny a sly smile. “It’s his favorite
too.”
S: Takes the hint. “If it runs in the family I’ll have to guess
strawberry.”
J: “You like strawberry too? Ill share my toast with you then.”
S: “Thanks, but you eat it. I’ll go down to the cafeteria when I’m
hungry.”
B: “Jessi, do you think you’ll be okay if I go home for a little bit?
I’m going to pick up some of your things like your toothbrush, some
clothes, that book you were reading. Anything else?”
J: Looks at Sonny and smiles. She thinks that he doesn’t seem so scary
anymore. “Yeah, I think I will be okay. Can you bring Baby Teddy, too,
please.”
B: “Sure I can.” She gets up and gives Jessi a kiss on the cheek. She
walks to the door, turns around and says to Jessi, “Bye, sweetie.” She
turns to Sonny and says with an air of coldness. “Bye, Sonny.” Sonny
knew she was letting him talk to Jessi, but she wasn’t forgetting what
happened the night before.
S&J: “Bye” Brenda left the room as Amy came in.
A: “Here’s something you can take for your headache.” She gives Jessi
some pills and water to swallow them with. Jessi does and Amy leaves
the room.
Sonny and Jessi are now alone in the room.
J: “So I guess you’re my daddy.”
S: “Yeah, I guess I am.”
J: “What would you like for me to call you?”
S: “Well what do you usually call me?”
J: “Daddy. Is that okay?”
S: Smiles a dimpled smile. “I would love for you to call me Daddy.”
With that her dimpled smile mirrors his.
J: “Daddy?”
S: Music to his ears. “Yeah.”
J: “Just practicing.”
S: Laughs. “Practice all you want. I love hearing it.”

********************************************************************************************

Chapter 17

It’s later on in the morning. Jessi has just finished her breakfast.
Jessi and Sonny have talked about everything from the weather to their
favorite colors, food, hobbies, what she does at school, who her friends
are, and everything else that Jessi could think of to chatter about.
Sonny was in heaven. He could listen to her chatter forever. She would
get so excited about things and her eyes would glow. Sonny could tell
she would have him wrapped around her finger soon, if she didn’t
already. Sonny laughed quietly. All she had to do was smile and ask
for the moon and he would get it for her. It was a great feeling. He
already loved her more than he thought was possible. Jason was right,
she was a great kid and she was his. His thoughts were interuppted by a
question form her.
S: “I’m sorry, Jessi what did you say? I didn’t hear you.”
J: “Why did you go away, Daddy? Don’t you like Mom anymore?”
He knew this was coming. He just wasn’t prepared for it. What was he
going to say? The truth wouldn’t hurt. Lies were what got them here in
the first place.
S: “Of course I like your Mom. I love her.” He’s quiet for a minute
and Jessi looks at him with questions in her eyes. They’re so trusting
of him, he can’t bear to lie to them. He would give her the truth , not
all of it, but enough of it so that she would understand. “Jessi, I
didn’t leave. Someone took me and wouldn’t let me go home.”
J: She doesn’t like the sound of this. “What do you mean took you?
Why?”
S: “Some people were mad at me for some of the things I’ve done in my
past and wanted to teach me a lesson.”
J: “They took you because you were in the mob?”
S: “Yeah, something like that.”
J: “They wouldn’t let you go?”
S: “No, honey they wouldn’t.”
J: “They had you all this time?”
S: “No. When I got out I had to help some people and it just took me
awhile to get back home. I’m glad I got to come home.”
J: “I’m glad you came home. Are they going to take you again? I don’t
want you to go away.”
S: Sees the fear in her eyes. He wants to make it all go away. He
pulls her into a hug and rubs her back. “I’m not going anywhere. I’m
going to stay right here with you and mom.” He feels tears in his eyes
as he makes a promise he doesn’t know if he can keep. He feels her
tears on his chest as she whispers, “Don’t go Daddy, please.” He
answers. “Shh Jessi , I’m not going anywhere. I love you.”
They don’t hear Brenda come into the room. She wasn’t sure what had
been said, but the scene looked heartbreaking. She wasn’t sure if she
interupt or not, so she turned around and headed for the door. Sonny
sees her.
S: “Brenda?” She turns around.
B: “I didn’t want to interrupt.”
S: “Your not. Is she Jessi?” Jessi nods her head no.
B: “Jessi, Lu and Brooke are outside waiting to talk to you.” She
perks up a little bit at this.
J: “Can they come in?”
B: “Yeah. I’ll get them.” She leaves and comes back with Brooke and
Lu in tow. The girls immediately get into a conversation. Brenda
motions for Sonny to follow her outside. He gets up and leaves the
girls with their chatter.

*********************************************************************************************

Outside the room.
B: Turns to Sonny. “What did you say to her to make the both of you
cry.”
S: “The same thing I’m about to say to you.”
B: “And that would be?”
S: “I love you, Brenda.”
B: Turns away from Sonny, but can feel him come up behind her. “I love
you too, I don’t know if it is enough. You still can’t open up to me to
tell me the truth. Sonny did you know I thought it was my fault that
you were dead. I’ve carried that guilt with me for a long time.”
S: “Baby, you weren’t to blame for anything. It wasn’t your fault that
I got shot.”
B: Notices he doesn’t seem too surprised about what she said. “You knew
they were shooting at me and not you?”
S: “Yeah. They tortured me with that information. They didn’t hurt
you did they? I’ll kill them if they did.”
B: Starts to cry. She turns around and falls into his open arms. He
just holds her. “No he didn’t hurt me, but he tried. Don’t worry,
Jason already killed him.”
S: “I wish I could have been there, sweetie.”
B: Queitly through tears. “Where the h*ll were you?”
S: “All over the place. The first thing I remember after I was shot
was a dirty old hospital where I got infection after infection…..” He
went on to tell her everything. Every last detail even about how much
danger he could be and their plans to stay safe. As they were talking,
they had found themselves a bench to sit at. Sonny had his arm around
Brenda who was curled up next to him.
B: Looks up at him. “I don’t think this has ever happened?”
S: “What’s ever happened?”
B: “You telling me the truth all at once. I didn’t have to pry too
much.”
S: “You probably wouldn’t had to have to pry at all if I hadn’t had to
talk things out with Clive and Jason. I was ready to tell you the first
time you asked me.”
B: “This might get some getting used to. You actually telling me the
truth when I ask.”
S: “You better get used to it, because no more lying.”
B: “I like that. Lying has caused us too much pain.”
S: “I agree Baby, I agree.”
B: “You really think that we can stay safe?”
S: “God, I hope so.”

********************************************************************************************

Chapter 18

It is now Sunday Morning. Jessi is in her room getting ready to leave
the hospital. She has her clothes on and Sonny and Brenda are gathering
her things up. Bobbie comes in with a wheel chair.
Bo: “Ready to go home, Jessi?”
J: “Yeah. Do I get to ride in that?” Points to the wheel chair.
Bo: “You bet. It’s hospital policy.”
J: She hops in the chair. “I’m ready to go.” She turns to Sonny and
Brenda. “You guys ready?”
B: “We sure are, honey.”
Bo: “Then lets go.” Bobbie wheels Jessi out of the room and Sonny and
Brenda follow.
At the front of the hospital, Bobbie says goodbye and leaves the newly
formed family alone.
B: “Come on Jessi, I brought the cool car you love to ride in today to
bring you home in.” She turns to Sonny. “You coming with us or do you
want to follow?”
S: “I’ll follow.” Turns to Jessi. “So what’s this cool car that you
like so much?”
J: “Mom has this old red Porsche that’s really fun to ride in.
Especially if she puts the top down.”
S: “You still have that old car, Bren? I bet it’s a classic now.”
B: “Yeah it is. I don’t drive it often, it’s not as reliable as it
used to be, but Jessi loves it when we take it out driving once in
awhile.”
S: “I bet she does.” He picks her up and twirls her around. She laughs
and enjoys it.
B: “Sonny be careful please. She just got out of the hospital.”
J: “I’m fine mom.”
B: “I know, but…”
S: “She’s right Jessi I should have been more careful.”
Jessi was a small girl for nine years old. She was about as light as
feather. Sonny still held onto her. He carried her to the “cool car,”
said goodbye, got into his car and followed Brenda to her house.

********************************************************************************************

At a two story fairly moderate sized house on Port Charles Street, only
a few houses down from the Spencer house, a group of friends and family
was gathering. They were waiting to welcome home their friends. One
had returned home, one had gotten out of the hospital, and one’s
impossible dream had come true. All three of them had found the family
that they had thought would never exist. They were happy and content.
At least for now.
