Ch. 69 "Brenda's coming home and she's bringing my daughters?" "Yeah. I'm not sure how long she'll stay that depends on you, but at least you can spend sometime with your babies." "Thanks Jason, I owe ya one. What time will you guys get here?" "Our flight leaves at 8, so hopefully around 10:30." "Can you bring them to the penthouse, I mean can you try to convince Brenda to come home instead of staying at Lois's or a hotel?" "I'll try. Listen I gotta go, I'll call you when we land." Sonny hung up the phone and picked up the picture of his daughters, and wiped away a few tears. "I'll make it up to you Brenda. I can't let you leave me again and take our babies. I can't." *^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^* Jason walked back into the living room and waited for Brenda to come back downstairs. "How the hell am I suppose to convince Brenda to stay at the penthouse?" Brenda came down the stairs with the twins in her arms. "Well is everything set Jason?" "Yeah. They really are cute Brenda. Sonny's going to go crazy when he sees them." "Yeah, well they look a lot like him." "Brenda, where are you going to stay when we get to PC?" "I'm sure Lois and Ned can put us up why?" "Well, I was just thinking, why don't you stay at your place?" "My place? Oh, you mean the penthouse, the place I lived in with Sonny? The place I was shot in?" "Brenda, Sonny has guards outside the door, and you and the girls would be safer there than anywhere else in town." "Did you call Sonny and tell him I was coming?" Jason said nothing, he couldn't lie, he didn't know how to. "You did. I can't believe you!" "Brenda, Sonny is their father and your husband and he has a right to know when his wife and daughters are coming home!! Now I'll be taking you directly to the penthouse and then you and Sonny can discuss whatever you want to there." ^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^* Jason and Brenda had not said anything to each other the entire plane ride. Now she was giving him the silent treatment in the limo too! Jason figured that it was more nerves than anything. She hadn't seen her husband, or talked to him in months and she had kept his children from him. Brenda looked over at Jason, he was staring out the window. Why did she ever agree to this? What was she suppose to say to Sonny? Would she be able to resist the urge to run to his arms and take him upstairs and make love to him? She had missed him so much, but she knew she had to be strong. She couldn't sacrifice her babies just for her husband, the only man she had ever loved. The only man she had ever made love to, the man she had been in love with since she was 14. The limo stopped and felt her breath get shorter. They rode up the elevator in silence. There was no turning back now. The elevator stopped and they got out. This was it. Ch 70 "What am I doing? I must be nuts. This was a bad idea. I’m going back to Atlanta." Brenda started to turn around but Jason put his hands on her shoulders and gently turned her around. "Brenda you’re not nuts and this isn’t a bad idea. This is the best thing for both of you." Jason leaned over and opened the door. "Oh what do you know?" Jason chuckled as he helped her with her bags and the twins into the penthouse. "Hey Sonny. We’re here!" Jason called out as he set Brittany’s carrier on the desk and one of Brenda’s bags down on the floor. "Sonny? Where are you?" "Right here." Sonny said coming out of the kitchen. Brenda turned around to face Sonny. She had taken Gabby out of her carseat and was holding her. Brittany was still in her carrier on the desk. "Hi Sonny." "Hey B." An uncomfortable silence followed. It was finally broken by Jason. "I have to go." "Jason? Thank you for all your help and tell Robin to call me when she gets home from school." "Sure. I’m going to get her tomorrow so I’ll be sure to relay the message." "Thanks." "Bye guys." Jason left and Sonny and Brenda faced each other again. "You haven’t changed anything." She said looking around. "I liked everything the way it was." "Really?" "Yeah." He looked at her and Gabby. " She’s beautiful. They both are." "I think so." She chewed on her lip. "Would you like to hold her?" "Can I?" "Of course. She’s your daughter, after all." Brenda carefully handed Gabby to Sonny. "Be sure to support her head." "I will." He smiled at his daughter and then at her mother. "She feels wonderful." "I know the feeling. The first time I held her and Britt was magical." "I’ll bet." "Look Sonny, I’m sorry. It was wrong to keep them from you and it was wrong to make you miss their birth. It never should have happened." "Hey you were upset. It’s understandable." "Thanks for that." "Bren I have a question." "What?" "Where are you planning on staying?" "Lois and Ned said they’d put us up." "Would you consider staying here?" Ch. 71 "Stay here? In the Penthouse?" "Why not? It is YOUR home after all. And it would give me a chance to spend some time with my daughters." Brenda smiled slightly as she watched Sonny with the baby. He was playing with her hand and she was smiling up at him. "You were born to be a father. Would you like to feed them?" "Can I?" "Sure but you have to feed both of them at the same time or they get fussy." Brenda went into the kitchen to warm up the bottles as Sonny sat down on the couch holding both of his daughters. "You guys are so beautiful. You look like your mom. I love all of you so much. I promise that your mommy and me will get back together soon. I can't imagine my life without her, or you two. Don't worry daddy will fix it, somehow." Sonny wasn't aware that Brenda had been standing behind him, listening to the whole conversation. She wiped the tears away and cleared her throat causing Sonny to turn around. "Their bottles are ready." After they had been feed and changed Sonny played with them for awhile. He loved being with them watching them scoot around him and laugh and make baby noises. He smiled sadly for a minute, thinking about what he had already missed. Brenda watched him and saw the look in his eyes. It broke her heart to now that she was the cause of it. "Sonny I think they need a nap, is there somewhere that I can put them?" "Here?" "Yeah. Is that OK?" "Of course. Um, follow me." He picked up Gabby as Brenda picked up Brittany and followed him upstairs. He stopped at a bedroom door, and waited for Brenda. Then he opened it. Brenda stared in amazement. It was the most beautiful nursery she had ever seen. It had two of everything. "Sonny, this is soo...beautiful. I don't know what to say. When did you do all of this?" "When you were gone. I had a lot of free time. Too much time to think, so I did this. Well my mom helped, and so did Mike. Brenda I think we need to have a little talk." "Me too." Ch 72 "Let’s go downstairs. I want to make sure the girls get some sleep. They’ve had a long day." "Okay. After you." Brenda and Sonny left the nursery and went downstairs to living room. Brenda looked around trying to avoid eye contact with Sonny. "You haven’t decorated for Christmas, yet." "I wasn’t planning on it." "Why?" "There was really no reason. You and the girls weren’t here so I didn’t anyone to celebrate with, so I figured why bother, ya know?" "Well we’re here now and I was planning on staying till Christmas so maybe we can go out and get a tree, hang some lights, maybe even some mistletoe." "That sounds like fun. Bren, I don’t want to talk about decorations." "What do you want to talk about?" "Us." "Sonny, I don’t know what you want from me anymore." "I want you to stay with me. I wanna wake up in the morning and know that I’m not imagining it when I hear your voice. I wanna hold you when I fall asleep at night and I wanna hold the girls when they wake up in the middle of the night. God Brenda, haven’t I missed enough of their life?" "I’m sorry but God what did you want me to do?" "I wanted you to keep your promise never to leave me." "You’re a great one to talk about broken promises Sonny. How about the promise that you’d never lie to me again? Or how about when you told me you were out of the mob? Do those words ring a bell?" "Brenda I’m sorry I lied to you, but God baby I was scared to death that if I told you the truth I’d lose you forever." "You could tell me anything and it wouldn’t change how I feel about you. I’ve been in love with you since I was fourteen years old and I’m going to be in love with you till the day I die. I just don’t know if it’s enough anymore." "It’s the only thing in the world that matters anymore. My work doesn’t matter, the lies don’t matter. All that matters is how we feel about each other. I know how I feel. I love you. I’ve loved you since I was seventeen years old and driving you home from school. Now you tell me. How do you feel?" "I love you, too." Brenda whispered. "Then please can we try and fix things?" Ch. 73 "Sonny, I don't know if I can." "Why not? You love me and I love you what's the mystery?" "I do love you, that's part of the problem." "Why is it a problem?" "Because. I could walk away if I didn't love you. I could take the girls and run and never feel guilty for cutting them out of your life. I wouldn't miss you holding me and kissing me and making love to me. I wouldn't be scared that you'd break my heart again." "Is that what this is all about? You're afraid that I'll hurt you again?" "Sonny, when I found out that you had been lying to me, it felt like someone had just put a knife in my heart. The one person that I trusted most in this world had lied to me. It made me feel like I didn't matter in your life, like I was expendable." "Oh, god no Brenda. You are the most important thing in my life!! I love you and the girls more than anything, more than the organization. You have no idea how many times I wanted to tell you. How it killed me to hear you say that you trusted me and to know that I was lying. You have no clue how scared I was when you were shot and I thought that I had lost you. Brenda, I can't tell you how sorry I am, but I can tell you and show you how much I love you, and how much you and the girls mean to me. I want to be a family. Please give me another chance." They were both crying by now. Sonny was on his knee, holding Brenda's hand. She didn't know what to say. She wanted to say yes. She wanted to fall to the floor and make love to him right there, but she had to think about this. "Sonny, I have to think about this. I can't place my children's lives in danger. But I want you to know that I do believe you. I believe that you didn't want to hurt me. But it's going to take me some time. Can you give that to me?" "I'll give you anything you want." She smiled weakly and nodded. "I'm gonna go to bed." She started up the stairs and then stopped and turned around. "I guess I'll see you in the morning Sonny." She walked a few more steps when Sonny called out to her. "Brenda? Welcome Home. We've missed you." ch. 74 Sonny lay in bed staring at the ceiling. This was ridiculous. So what if Brenda was two doors down? So what if she was probably wearing one of those silky nightgowns? So what if she probably smelled like heaven? That was not a reason for insomnia. Oh who was he kidding? Yes it was. He turned on his side and stared at the space beside him. It hadn’t been slept in since she left and yet every morning he rolled over and stretched out his arm to pull Brenda closer to him and kiss her temple as she woke up. He rolled over onto his back again. There was a simple explanation for all this. He was completely hopeless. ~(~(~(~(~(~(~(~(~(~(~( Brenda stretched out on her bed with a sigh. This was getting annoying. She was exhausted and yet she couldn’t sleep. She knew what the problem was. It was Sonny. He was sleeping two doors down and she wasn’t in bed with him. They hadn’t slept under the same roof and not in the same bed since they were teenagers. Even when they fought they still slept together and even if they went to sleep totally apart they always wound up wrapped in each other’s arms. She sat up and decided that a cup of hot chocolate would help her sleep so she went downstairs, not bothering to put on a robe. )~)~)~)~)~)~)~)~)~)~)~ Sonny sat up in bed. This was beginning to get on his nerves. It was after two in the morning and he wanted to be awake to spend the day with his daughters and their mother. Deciding that a glass of brandy would help him sleep he climbed out of bed and went downstairs. ~(~(~(~(~(~(~(~(~(~(~( Brenda stood on her tiptoes to reach a mug for her hot chocolate. She grabbed it and returned to her flat feet as she walked over to the counter to put the mix in the mug. Then the pot started whistling and she turned it off and poured the water into the cup. The she stirred it until the mix dissolved and then she poured milk into it. She was about to turn out the light and go into the living room when she heard a glass shatter. She froze in her tracks. She backed up and started to feel for the counter. As she did she accidentally knocked over Sonny’s spaghetti container. It fell to the ground with a crash. )~)~)~)~)~)~)~)~)~)~)~)~ Sonny paused in picking up the glass he had dropped when he heard a crash from the kitchen. Then he saw the light peeking out from the door. Why hadn’t he noticed it before? He slowly approached the door and prayed who ever was on the other side of the door didn’t have a gun. He opened the kitchen door and was greeted by….. nothing. There was no one in the kitchen but there was his spaghetti container on the floor in pieces. ~(~(~(~(~(~(~(~(~(~(~( Brenda sat quietly at the end of counter on the floor. She was trying not to breathe to loudly. She listened to the movements of the person. She heard something scrape against the floor. It sounded like glass. Then another scrape. He was picking up the spaghetti container. What kind of burglar picks up shattered glass? Unless…. She carefully peeked around the corner and what she saw made her giggle. It was Sonny. He looked up when he heard her. "What are you doing in here?" "I couldn’t sleep so I wanted to have a cup of hot chocolate. What’s your excuse?" "I couldn’t sleep either so I decided to get a glass of brandy." "Did you by chance shatter a glass?" "Yeah." "Thank God. I thought you were a burglar." "You thought I was a burglar? I thought you were the burglar." "Why? Oh you heard the spaghetti container fall." "Yeah." "This is funny, if you think about it." "How so?" "You’ve got bodyguards at the front door and bullet-proof glass and we’re worried about a prowler getting in." "How did you know about the glass?" "Oh Jason told me." Realizing she was sitting on the floor she stood up and came around the opposite side of the counter and faced Sonny. Sonny took a look at Brenda. God she was beautiful. "Well g’night." She started to walk to the door. "Brenda wait." Brenda paused by the door and turned around. "Yes?" Sonny bit his lip and then decided to go with his impulse. He walked over to her and took her face in his hands before he gently but firmly kissed her lips. Ch. 75 Brenda gave in and kissed him back. First slowly, then more hungrily. They had missed each other and were trying to make up for all that lost time. They seemed to melt into each other. They sank to the floor of the kitchen, kissing and feeling each other. Sonny was working her nightgown off and she was tearing at the buttons on his night shirt. He put his hand behind her head and slowly lowered her to the floor. Things were getting pretty intense when they heard a cry from upstairs. "I better get that." "No. Let me." Sonny got up and buttoned up his shirt and helped Brenda to her feet. "We'll continue this later." She watched him as he half ran up the stairs to the nursery. "Hey, what's all the noise about?" He went over to Brittany's crib and gently picked her up. He cradled her in his arms and she immediately quieted down. "You know that we're gonna have to work on your timing there sweetie. Your mommy and me almost... well you’re too young to hear stuff like that." He sat in the rocker and started to gently rock his little girl back to sleep. Brenda appeared in the doorway. She walked over to her husband and daughter. She knelt down and stoked Brittany's head and kissed her. As she looked up from her daughter, her eyes met with his. She knew this was where she belonged. With this man, the only man she had ever loved. She had the family she had been dreaming of for so long, right here. "She's asleep. I guess I’m going to go to bed." With that Brenda turned and left. Sonny got up and put her back in her crib. Sonny walked back into their bedroom but stopped when he looked on the bed. There she was lying on their bed. It was like she had never left. "Brenda? What’s going on here?" "Isn't it obvious?" "Yes. But I'm confused." "I don't want you to be confused. I was thinking, and well I've made a decision." Ch 76 "What kind of decision?" "Tonight when you kissed me it was like nothing had changed. I know so much has but one thing has never and will never change." "And that would be?" "That I love you. I’ve loved you since I was fourteen and I’m going to love you until the day they put me six feet under." "We went through this already. I know you love me. I love you too." "Good. Then make love to me." "Huh?" "Sonny it’s not the first time I’ve said that to you. I think you know what the words mean." "Uh yeah I know what they mean but are you sure that’s what you want?" "Very sure. I want to wake up in your arms and I want to fall asleep in them for the rest of my life. I’m done running away from our problems. I’m done hiding from our feelings and I’m done fighting the fact that you’ve had my heart since the first time you kissed me. Sonny when Jason showed up on my doorstep my first thought was something had happened to you and if it had I don’t think I would have ever forgiven myself. I love you and I wanna be with you." "Well then I only have one thing to say." "What?" "I love you too." He climbed onto the bed and positioned himself over her. She reached up and wound her arms around his neck, pulling him down to her. Their lips met and soon they lost themselves in each other and blocked out the world around them as they made love. Ch. 77 ~~~ Christmas Day ~~~ It had been one month since Brenda had come home. Gabby and Brittany loved their new nursery. They had kept the farm in Atlanta, and her sheltie, Ben, was now a resident of PC. Sonny loved having his family back. He got up in the middle of the night with the girls to give Brenda a break and just be near them. Gabby and Britt were 5 months old now and crawling everywhere. Sonny was having the best time of his life making this the best Christmas ever. ''Sonny? Where did you put the presents for your mother and Mike?'' Brenda asked as she walked into the kitchen as Sonny prepared the ham for dinner. ''Uhh, check the closet in my office, sweetheart.'' ''OK. Hey, thank you.'' ''For what?'' ''For inviting Mike over to spend Christmas with us. I know how you feel about him.'' ''Yeah well, you and my mom wanted him here and it's the girls first Christmas so I figured that we should make it special.'' ''It is special. We've worked out our problems and we have two beautiful, healthy little girls, friends, what more could we ask for?'' ''This.'' Sonny stopped what he was doing and kissed his wife. Things started to get carried away when Brenda pulled back. "Sorry, Mr. Corinthos, but I have a lot to do before everyone gets here.'' "Like what?'' He said still kissing her neck. "Well I have to get the girls ready, finish putting the gifts under the tree, and I have to get ready.'' "Really? And when you say that you have to get ready...does that include getting dressed and taking a shower?'' "Maybe...I don't know I might need some help...'' Sonny continued to kiss her neck and smiled at her last statement. "Well, I might be willing to help you there, after all it is part of my official husband duties to make life easier for you.'' "Really? Well why don't you get dinner in the oven, I’ll put the rest of the gifts out and then I'll met you in the shower.'' "What about the girls?'' "The girls are sleeping.'' ''I'll be there in 10.'' ''OK.'' Brenda went upstairs and Sonny finished preparing dinner. Both smiled to themselves as they thought about what a wonderful Christmas it was going to be. Ch 78 "Sonny I gotta say that was the best dinner I’ve ever had." "Better than the ones your mom used to make Nik?" "Mom wasn’t much for cooking, right Ren?" "Huh? Oh right." "You okay Bren?" "Yeah, just tired." "You sure, honey?" Sonny asked as they sat on the couch. The girls and Frankie were playing with playing with the boxes and wrapping paper left over from this morning. Frannie and Nik sat on the opposite side of the couch and Mike and Adella sat in between them. "Yeah. It’s just been a long day. Ya know honey next year I think we should just get the girls wrapping paper and boxes for Christmas. They don’t seem to want anything else." Brenda said looking at her daughters and niece. Frankie was the only one playing with the toys she had received. Gabby and Britt were crawling around in the wrapping paper. "Sorry Ren. They’re only like that the first year. Next year they are going to be into everything." "Oh well. It was worth a shot." Brenda leaned her head on Sonny’s shoulder and he rested his cheek on top of her head and put an arm around her shoulders. He caught his mother’s contented gaze as she looked at them and knew how happy she was that Brenda was home and that they had worked out their problems. So was he. Brenda and the girls were the best Christmas present he could have asked for. Brenda spotted Nik looking at her and Sonny with a smile. He may not always trust Sonny but she knew the two did like each other. The only reason they had stopped being friends when they were kids was because of Sonny’s breakup with Julia. Julia. She wondered where her big sister was spending the holidays. She decided she was probably in Alaska with Jax’s family. She wasn’t that fond of her brother-in-law and neither were Nik or Sonny for that matter. In fact the last time they were all in the same room together Sonny and Nik ended up in a fist fight with Jax and his brother, Jerry. That had been an interesting funeral. She still didn’t know why Julia had bothered to show up. Veronica wasn’t her mother and they couldn’t stand each other. Julia just liked to cause trouble. She was shaken from her thoughts when she felt Sonny pick up her hand. She squeezed it gently and felt Sonny kiss the top of her head. This was the most perfect moment in her life. Her family in one room and no one was arguing. This was her Christmas present. Well this and Sonny. Ch. 79 "Bye guys, thanks for coming." "Thank you Brenda. You have made Michael very happy." "Well he makes me happy too Adella. I'm so glad that you can be close to the girls now. I really am sorry that I left." "Brenda, we understand. Adella and I don't condone what our son does, but we love him anyway." "So do I." She glanced over her shoulder at Sonny, who was on the floor playing with the girls. "Well we should be going, we'll see you later." Brenda kissed Mike and Adella good-bye as they left. She shut the door, and turned around to gaze at her family. Sonny looked up at his wife as she stood by the door. He held out his hand and she walked over to him. "So how was your Christmas?" Brenda asked as she leaned up against Sonny as their daughters crawled around them. "Perfect. Having you and the girls home is the best Christmas present anyone could have ever given me." "I love you, Sonny, I always have." "I know. It goes both ways baby." Brenda looked around at Gabby and Britt who were starting to slow down and get sleepy. "I think they're starting to get tired maybe we should put them to bed." "Yeah, I think your right. They have had a big day." Sonny picked up Gabby and Brenda picked up Brittany. Together they got the girls ready for bed and Sonny stood in awe as he watched Brenda rock them both to sleep as she sang them a lullaby. "They're asleep." Brenda whispered to her husband as she put them down in their cribs. "You know we probably should have signed you to L&B with that voice of yours. I didn't know you could sing like that!" "Well you never asked me." They walked into their bedroom and got ready for bed. Brenda went into the bathroom to wash her face when she suddenly got very dizzy. She grabbed for the wall and slowly slid down to the floor. Sonny had gotten dressed and was walking into the bathroom when his cell phone rang. "Hello?" "Hey, we have a major problem." "Can it wait until tomorrow, Jason? I mean it's Christmas and I would like to make love to my wife." "Yeah well, I'm sorry but it can't wait. Rivera is making trouble in Puerto Rico. He wants a meeting with you." "When?" "Tomorrow." "What?! Be straight, do I have a choice?" "No, Sonny if you don't go, you could blow this alliance with him, and that would mean a lot of trouble and a lot of money lost." "Alright, I'll be on a flight tomorrow afternoon. Make the arrangements." Sonny hung up the phone and went to go tell his wife. He knew this was going to jeopardize everything they had rebuilt in the last month, but this was his job, she had to understand that. He walked into the bathroom and saw Brenda sitting on the floor. He ran over to her. "Sweetheart? What's the matter? What happened?" Ch 80 "I just got really dizzy all of a sudden. I needed to sit down. I’m okay now." "You sure?" "Yeah. Hey who was on the phone?" "Jason. Look I know this isn’t the best time but I have to go to Puerto Rico tomorrow." "Business?" "Yeah, I’m sorry baby. I don’t want to go but I have to." "It’s okay." "Huh?" "You did what you promised me when we got back together. You were straight with me. That’s all you ever have to be. I know you can’t tell me everything but bits and pieces and the heart and soul of things would be nice." "You’ll always have my heart and soul." "And you’ll always have mine." She stood up pulling Sonny along with her. "Now take me to bed or lose me forever." "No contest I’m taking you to bed." He scooped her up in his arms and carried her to bed where they made love all night long…. @#@#@#@#@#@#@#@ "So how long is Sonny gone for?" Lois asked Brenda as they sat in the Outback the next afternoon. "A couple of days and I miss him already." Brenda sighed longingly. "Girlfriend you have got it bad." "Lo, I’ve had it bad for ten years now." "I can’t believe it. Who would have thought that the two of you would ever end up married?" "Your mother." "What?" "She told me the night before my graduation that the next time I’d see her in tears would be when I married Sonny." "Really?" "Yup." "Wow. So how are the girls?" "Perfect as usual. Mike and Adella love having them." "They are born grandparents." "Tell me about it. Do you know Mike told me that he remembers me at that age?" "Really? That’s cool." "He said I used to make the same faces Britt does." "Awww!" "I’ll be right back. I’m gonna go call Mike and Adella. All this talk about the girls is giving me maternal pangs." Brenda jumped up and promptly fainted dead away.Continued
