It was a dark and stormy night....
No, that wasn't right. It was 3 in the afternoon, the sun was out,
and the only storm was the one in Honker's heart. He had left the house
in a huff. Why did Gosalyn need to be so unreasonable?
He had loved her and supported her all these years. Chosing to stay
Quiverwing Quack after the children were born was her choice. Honker
tried several times to talk her out of it, but always to no avail. But
last night HAD to be the end of it. Time for her to hang up her bow and
arrows.
-----
Drake Mallard got wind of Negaduck's latest scheme early in the day.
After looking briefly into it, he decided he needed help. Gosalyn was
the obvious choice. Drake knew that Honker never liked when Gos went
out to fight crime. He also knew that Honker would let her go if it was
urgent enough. And today, it was!
Negaduck had managed to find some large quantities of explosives.
According to the latest TV threat (Oh, there were many, but Darkwing
took each and every one seriously. Negaduck was capable of anything!) he
demanded one million dollars or he would destroy the school. Darkwing
watched the television in horror as the cameras showed Liquidator and
QuackerJack outside of the school. He could only assume that Bushroot
and Megavolt were inside WITH THE CHILDREN!!
The call was made. Honker understood. Gosalyn grabbed her bow and ran
out the door. Hopefully, her dad had a plan. She was too upset to
think right now. Her kids, along with hundreds of others, were in
danger!
Darkwing's plan was simple enough. He and Launchpad would create a
diversion outside while Quiverwing went inside and rescued the kids.
With a "Lets get Dangerous!" the 3 of them sprang into action.
Quiverwing Quack went around the back of the school and climbed the
wall. She knew of all the openings the school had. Bushroot and
Megavolt couldn't cover all of them! She found one of the sky lights
and looked in. There stood both of the villians. The entire school to
cover and they stand around chatting!
Quickly, she ran to the other side of the roof and jumped in through
the vent. This was going to be simple. And most of the rescue was.
Gosalyn heard her father and most trusted friend outside. There was gun
fire and things being blown up. She knew that her father was careful,
but understood what was at stake here. Running from classroom to
classroom, Quiverwing gathered the students and showed them the way to
safety. There were only a few class rooms left. Bushroot and Megavolt
were standing right infront of them! Oh well, they weren't that bright.
She could sneak the children out the windows. But she needed to hurry.
Her dad wouldn't be able to last much longer.
Suddenly, a voice of doom thundered all around her. Negaduck!! He
was tired of waiting for the money. The school was going to be blown up
in 60 seconds! Gos knew she had to hurry. No time for being sneaky.
Using one of her exploding arrows, she knocked a hole in the wall.
Yelling at the kids to get out, she went after the villians. She was
too close to saving all the children to let those two stop her now! Time
was running out!
"I've waited long enough!" Negaduck boomed.
Darkwing watched in horror as the school blew into tiny bits of
concrete.
"Quiverwing!!!!!!" He ran into the rubble. Pushing blocks aside, he
finally found some green cloth. He lifted his baby girl out of the
debris. She was still alive-but badly hurt.
At the hospital, they had recieved the good news. A few broken bones
and plenty of scratches, but nothing serious. Plus, the police had
checked the site-all of the children were out of the building before the
explosion.
-----
Honker decided that this had to be the last time. The bow had to go!
He loved her too much to let her risk her life again. She could have
died! The girls would have lost their mother! He would have lost his
wife! She tried to reason with him, but Honker would not listen. If
his father-in-law wanted to be foolish, let him. Mrs. 'Honker'
Muddlefoot will not be blown up, shot at, or put in jeopardy anymore!
A quick slam of the front door, and Honker left. After much walking
and soul searching, he knew that he had to go home. But what would he
do? What would he say?
