The Return of the Mercenary
The couple snuggled closer on the couch, placing the bowl of popcorn on their legs. He had timed it so his hand would touch hers when reaching to get another handful. The movie was almost over, the screen showing the battle in space.
Han Solo had led his team into the building which provided the shielding for the new Death Star. Princess Leia had been with him, discovering her own feelings for this man. Up to this point, she had denied her feelings for both him and Luke Skywalker.
"I must confess, Detective, I have never watched this movie before." Karen explained as she allowed her hand to hesitate next to his.
"Ah, my dear Karen, this is a movie for lovers. And, of course, those suffering from pneumonia," he answered with a smile playing at his lips and eyes.
She looked into his eyes. Eyes that up until now, had been shaded by his trademark sunglasses. "Do I want to know about that?"
Kermit couldn't help himself; he didn't hear her question, only saw Karen's long neck. He leaned over and softly kissed the exposed flesh. Karen felt the tenderness and warmth of his lips, his breath.
"Suppose I don't," She murmured.
"Suppose you don't what?" he responded, pulling himself upright, reaching for the remote to pause the movie just as Luke Skywalker found Lord Vadar with the Emperor. The fight to bring Luke over to the dark side of the force ensued. Luke fought valiently, trying to hide the fact that another child of Darth Vadar existed, Princess Leia, Luke's twin sister.
She smiled, something Kermit's co-workers rarely saw. "Why would someone with pneumonia watch this?"
Kermit gave a small laugh. "Oh, that. Well, it was before you came. Peter was sick and overworked. Paul took him home and they watched the first Star Wars movie. Unbeknownst to Paul, Peter was inserting his fellow officers into the characters of the movie. Later, Paul found out the kid had pneumonia."
"Oh? And who were you? Character, I mean?"
His smile broadened, something Karen didn't think the ex-mercenary could do. "I was Frog Solo. Though I think he was wrong with the Princess. He had Jody cast there."
"Oh? Who do you think it should have been?" Karen's curiosity had been piqued.
"You." Kermit leaned over and kissed his Captain. Their lips parted, "hmm, yes. You would definitely be the Princess."
They didn't see in the background as the movie played out, where Han Solo told Leia that he knew her feelings for Luke and would not stand in their way. Leia smiled and gently shook her head, then said, "But Luke is my brother." Han hugged her in a fierce grasp, vowing to not let her go to himself.
"You know what they say about Princess' and frogs?" Karen asked coyly.
"You only have to kiss this one and I'll be your Prince, my lady."
